Leonhard has an awesome past as DC. I don’t like the idea of passing up Kane and possibly loosing him to purdue. Pay Kane more to keep him in his dual position and bring in Leonhard. Then start swaying the recruits our way.
There is going to be other spots to fill. Walters will be taking some coaches with him. They aren't strangers at all, that's true.
But it should be noted that the only time they ever worked together was Leonhard's senior year as a player, which was BB's first as DC. Both were at Wisconsin a long time, but they only intersected that one year.
There's something weird going on with Leonhard's unwillingness to leave the state of Wisconsin. I doubt he's in play for us.
The two reasons I like the Kane thing
1. It burnishes the value of the "coordinator-in-waiting" job Kane would be leaving. If you prove that conveyor belt works, coaches will be lining up to get on the beginning of it.
2. The resources that would otherwise be dedicated to bringing in those DC qualifications could be redirected toward filling Kane's vacancy with the elite rainmaking recruiter this staff is still missing. If Kane is capable of the DC role, and I think everyone believes he is, the "Mayor of Littyville" role is the bigger hole, IMO.

Yeah this is my concern. There is going to be other spots to fill. Walters will be taking some coaches with him.
If that's the case, then that tells me Kane could be gone as well. We better back the brinks truck up for Leonhard then if that's the case. There is going to be other spots to fill. Walters will be taking some coaches with him.

I feel like this is a problem you try and create for yourself. If your coordinators are leaving every 2 years for HC jobs you are winning a lot of games. Is part of the calculus that Leonhard may only be a short 1 or 2 year solution at DC whereas Kane may be a longer term solution if things go well?
I don't get why people think it's Kane. Henry is who he is closest withIf that's the case, then that tells me Kane could be gone as well. We better back the brinks truck up for Leonhard then if that's the case.

Long term excellent coordinators are no longer a thing in college football full stop, with the limited exception of super old guys or badly failed ex-head coaches.I feel like this is a problem you try and create for yourself. Bound to happen when Ryan got a head job
If given the chance between young & hungry or old & busted, unless I'm Alabama/Georgia getting super bowl winning coordinators, I'm going young every time.Long term excellent coordinators are no longer a thing in college football full stop, with the limited exception of super old guys or badly failed ex-head coaches.
(As to the latter, Chris Ash?)

Good point. Kane could be offered the DC position at Purdue....If that's the case, then that tells me Kane could be gone as well. We better back the brinks truck up for Leonhard then if that's the case.
Great news. Now I hope he’s able to keep as many of the assistants as he wants. It's Kane
That GIF seems skeptical lol
