One team showed.....one team didn't.........

misery shot lights out the whole game .........................
Illini shot themselves in the foot the whole game........

As so many have posted before me , the Illini defense is what was used the first two years under BU and it still sucks....way too many misery drives unimpeded into the paint for an easy layup..........or pass outs to open dudes for a 3.....did they miss any 3 's....I know they did but seems like all went in.

many have brought up internal or chemistry issues within the squad..........I don't know what it would be unless there is leftover baggage from the MM & BU deal about fasting before games , etc............seems like we are a Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde waiting to happen......

I do agree that BU needs to start Sincere over Skyy next game and maybe Epps over RJ.......

here's the radio interview with BU................................

BU says it's on me......I let them down.....I felt it coming but , I don't know , I don;t know.......
blown assignment after blown assignment
no effort....it's on me........

Deon asks about the 3 frosh who finished the game.......
BU.................. that's why I played them
credit to DG and misery.....older team....everything fell................did make a reference about the officiating , but cut it short.......
worked on block out drills and in the game we didn't block out

I apologize.............BU seems to mean it...........
we're not very tough .......get a boo-boo and run to the trainers room.....

It's been a long night and something I didn't expect.....Deon & Brian just said they have never seen BU this down.......

I'll close by stating , if we continue to run this type of defense then this won't be the last game this years that the unexpected will happen.......
I get the pressing fullcourt , I really do........But hustle your buns back guard someone and don't overplay 30 feet from the rim............carry on...

So there is a clear lack of chemistry right now, anyone can see that. I am someone who gets very passionate during games, but did not get mad once tonight. I knew this was coming today, the signs were in the last two games.

So, we have an upperclassmen who has all the talent in the world, but can still be immature. He's a great kid, but lacks focus and has a big ego at times. This can cause problems, and has rubbed many teammates the wrong way.

Guys have been frustrated with each other, as different people slack off in practice or are not focused on the scouting report.

Right now, we have 5 true freshman playing and it's showing. They all have been positive and good in the locker room, but they are 18 years old playing against 23 year old's. Going to take time.

There is no chemistry between this team right now. Just none. That was pathetic tonight, no way around it. As someone who has really payed attention specifically the last ten years, that was the worst game I have seen in that entire time period. Just abysmal. Guys will have to look into the mirror now, as it's gut check time.

We will sit at 9-4 going into the big ten season. Guys are going to have to look into the mirror now. How much do they want it? This team is good enough TO MAKE A FINAL FOUR, but can be bad enough to miss the tourney as a whole. We have so much talent, a lot young, and they are probably going to be shell shocked after this loss.

As a former college athlete, these losses happen every year. This team has two choices: Quit, pack it in, and a lot of them will prepare for next year. Or, they can turn it around, play with effort, intensity, heart, and turn this S*** around. I'm sick and tired of this fanbase not having something to cheer about in March on the second weekend. We can turn this around and complete that goal or quit. I don't have much more to say, other than put your ego aside and play with heart. This team can still be great, but it's up to them.

Mayer is our best player and he knows it. Probably tells everyone too.

We need to get him volume touches. Think Brian Cook circa 2003 with the good young developing guards around him.

Coleman and Shannon need to accept roles. As a facilitator and a slasher respectively.
Mmm…. I’m not sure I agree Mayer is our best player. Especially if he’s not a team player. But… I don’t really know anything other than I hated this game.

We need to get Mayer 10 more shots a night, who knows if that's feeding a problem, but he needs fed more.
It's time to teach Epps and Clark whatever got Plummer so many looks.

There’s a lot I could say … Some stuff people are bringing up is correct … The film doesn’t lie … Body language doesn’t lie …

I can sum a lot of it up in one sentence: Our guys play more for the name on the back than on the front …
Was always a concern with the guys we brought in, and it looks like it did not pay off.

You know the more I watch the more I realize it’s actually pretty simple. Brad needs to bite the bullet and start Harris over Skyy so the switching D can actually work. If he does our season will recover, if not, we’re screwed.
It’s got me wondering what kind of promises were made to SC. He needs to sit. And CH is a turnover waiting to happen.

Unacceptable for this program. Hard to see how this game doesn't set the program back 5 years. Embarrassing to have a performance like this for a program that preaches "every day" culture. That's not a shot at the coaches or the players; they all share equally in this collapse after such a promising start. Total disappointment after such high expectations after "reloading" with transfers. I couldn't have been more wrong in expecting veteran players to come in and be a "team." Hard to be optimistic after the last 3 games, and worried this one will have lasting ramification.

May wanna step away from the keyboard for the night. "set the program back 5 years" is a bit harsh. Yes it was a horrendous performance on both ends - but hopefully whatever broke after the Penn-State game can be fixed / mended. Hoping Goode can come in and provide the leadership that seems to be missing. I feel your frustration, but I also remain hopeful.

Coleman needs to grow up now or GTFO.

Just horrible timing with players going home for break as well after a loss like this … Getting around people who aren’t going to be saying “buy in” and “trust the staff” …
Meaning some folks may be rolling over and showing their belly by jumping into the portal???... Or is the thought that BU needs to go?

i think this team has too many newcomers hard to keep everyone happy lead to lack of chemistry. Don’t see this season turning around but think we sneak in the tourney

Plummer was experienced, tough mentally and physically and a sharp shooter. He never stopped cutting and moving on the court. He had his off nights but he brought it every single action. May have not been the best defensive player but he played every possession like it was his last. he was a great pickup last year and I just remembered that because of your quote! Long live Plummer!

I have been so positive about this team this year, but I feel like these last 2 games have shown some major issues that have to be addressed.

At this point Skyy is the 3rd best freshman guard and needs to be played as such.

Mayer comes across as a guy just looking for his numbers. Not sure at all if that's true...but that's what his demeanor comes across as. I unfortunately think he is becoming the most dominant personality. And I don't think that is a personality looking to win a title this year as much as get drafted. Again, not sure if that is true, but he carries himself that way. It could also be that he cares more than the rest of the guys and is mad about that. Doesn't seem like that though.

Shannon works hard, but has obviously struggled for stretches offensively. I would try to get him to focus on being a lockdown defender and the other stuff will figure itself out. He has to have the defensive success drive the offensive success rather than try to do it the other way around.

Hawkins is literally my favorite player on the team...and I wanted him on the bench tonight. But, I feel a lot of his struggles are not completely of his doing, His use as the de facto point guard in the half court is not putting him(or us) in a position to succeed. He is a great passer and ball handler for his size. He is not a great passer or ball handler for a Big 10 point guard. Use him alongside Dain more. Mainly because he's the best guy we have at feeding the post.

RJ has become a near non-factor at times. Instead of raising his game with the new players he has blended into the background. If we ran plays we could actually run stuff to try to get him going.

Harris has to start. End of story. The message not starting him sends leads to the performance we had tonight. No one deserves to start more than him. No one.

Coaching. Not good. We run no offense. I've seen teams run straight motion, but that implies there is motion. Little movement with very few screens is not a motion offense. So we don't run plays, and don't really run a motion so of course we are going to struggle to score. We had a HUGE advantage inside with Dain(or really 3 or 4 other guys is they posted up) tonight and its like we have no plays to get the ball inside...cause we don't. The announcers made a comment about Illinois players having some tough practices coming up. I don't think that's the answer. Practice smarter. Work on offensive sets. We can't rely on transition offense or 3's. And if there are guys that are working their butts off in practice and games and are legitimate players. Start them. Playing time has always been the ultimate motivator.

Welcome to the world of high expectations. The higher the talent level, the higher the expectations. I hope they figure it out.

If this season goes south, it's the Penn State game, imo. Staring 0-2 in conference play is disheartening, especially when beating Top Ten teams.
