Although I'm sorry for Camille and her injury, I am glad to learn there is a reason she is not playing. Things look good for this year and even better for next year. The coaching/recruiting staff need to find a big or two and this team could really make some noise next year, even more than they are making this year.

My guess: Being buried on B10+, few have seen them play and so they are still basing their opinion on the last 5 years.
Exactly Dan has a quote by the Iowa coach posted in this thread where she says it is astounding or words to that effect how improved this Illini team is from last year. She said you can see it on the film, but you don't get an understanding of how good until you play them and of course the Illini gals blitzed them for 31-point 2nd Qtr.

The comment is a facetious carry-over from the men's recruiting board, where every good shooter was called "a more athletic Larry Bird." Bird was plenty athletic! He just couldn't cover Michael (but who could?)
Understand the meme... just stating why she isn't at full speed yet.

Stay hot and see if Camille can catch up before we hit the tourney :D Definitely be nice to have more quality depth as the season goes on

Camille will be a special player over her time here. Her commitment was huge and story along the lines of Ayo and keeping the talented Chicago kid in state when they could have went to other power schools.

ESPN now has Illinois as a 7 seed playing Tennessee in Storrs with the Winner playing UCONN. Shauna should win COY as no one in the country saw this coming. Go Illini. We can do better than a 7.
It’s very early and we have a tough schedule to get thru, but if we make the tourney and can hold a position in the top 25, I agree she should get consideration.

That is true but, Michael could not cover Bird either and I' am die hard l Bulls fan from the butterbean Bob Love, Chet Walker, Jerry Sloan and the Norm Van Lier days. IMHO Mike is the best ever, yes better than Bron, Bron no matter what that cry baby ex- piston Isiaih, from St. Joe's who lost the state title to my Porters in 78. Yes, I know I am dating myself and no there were no computers and cell phones back then, you had to read and comprehend your sports information from print to get your sprots debate on.

I'm a few years younger than you and a JT West alum, but that '78 Lockport team was awesome. Bob Basarich (sp?) was a crazy good defensive coach, their 1-3-1 was very difficult to solve.

Yep that was him, JT west, you guys had a guard circa 77/78 I think his first name was Scott. Dude was a sniper with unlimited range, there was no 3 point line back then, thank god . We played you guys at your place and he destroyed that vaunted 1-3-1. Almost beat us single handedly he did, if there were a 3 point line back then, he would have.

I dated a girl from Lockport for all four years at UI (she was valedictorian in 76). She was over the moon that they won in 78. Went on and on about it all the time.

Scott Martin - he went to Utah and played PG on a few pretty good teams with future NBA big men Tom Chambers and Danny Vranes. Martin averaged something like 7 or 8 assists per game as a Sr. when they were a top-20 team.

Okay, I’ve switched over to following the ladie’s team.

The men have become too painful to watch or even read about.

Let’s go Lady Illini! I hope this start attracts the attention of more high flying recruits! They sure play an exciting brand of basketball. I thought that Lopez played her best game of the year, setting screens playing defense rebounding. She made a real contribution and was rewarded by playing a lot of minutes ( for her.)

Yeah, as Pru mentioned earlier, too, Lopez was really an unsung hero against Iowa. Being able to sit Bostic in the second and fourth quarters without a letdown in defensive intensity was huge. If she can provide those same quality minutes in the future, it'll be a big boost to the squad's depth.

After the hideous basketball we saw last night, I'm excited to watch this team as a palate cleanser tonight. They are the antithesis of everything that's going on with the men's team. They play with teamwork, heart, exceptional shooting, and a high basketball IQ. It's also just genuinely fun and exciting basketball. Though, I guess I'm preaching to the choir to those already in this thread. Hopefully, as momentum continues to grow more on this board will pop over here. They are having their best start ever and it deserves to be treated as the big freaking deal it is.

Hopefully they didn’t watch the guys last night.

Northwestern may be a better team than their record indicates. 5 of their 7 losses have been to ranked opponents, tho some weren’t very close.

FYI it is Lopes with an S. And, yes, she did give some valuable minutes.
