That was refreshing. Nice W. Stemmed what could have been complete free fall. Played with some urgency and intensity.

Again I ask, does any other team in the country have 3 (or more) top 15 wins?

Hope.

And a win that adds mass to the resume.

Anyone who wants to understand how human emotions will forever deprive our species of enduring peace and stability should read the Northwestern postgame thread and then this one. Our fragile, powerful minds; capable of rejoicing for and of despising the very same thing with equal ferociousness, within but a span of hours.

Our depression and despair. Our pain. It resulted from being unable to imagine - to see within our minds - how we might escape the suffering of wilting dreams and reclaim the happiness to which we feel entitled.

But this win. This win neutralizes a lot of poison, for both players and fans. This win visualizes exactly how we will be beautiful once again, all of our precious jewelry brought out for full display.

Hope.

I liked that response. Played within the system a lot better, got better shots, and hit them, which we know they’re capable of doing. Hawkins hit all six threes when we was set and wide open, and missed all three when he was rushed or off balance. Think there’s a lesson there.

Liked what I saw from Mayer. He might have even overcorrected on the offensive side but it shows you what he can do as a playmaker when he decides he wants to do it. Still a bit baffled by some of his decisions on D, which is a little frustrating. We’ve seen what he can do, like he did in the second half on Jaquez in Vegas. Hopefully he settles in and this becomes a regular thing for him, because we need it.

Was also happy with some of the flashes we saw from younger players, too. Hopefully this isn’t a blip and they start to pull it together.

Perfect example of why stats in a box score are useful up to a point. The easy/lazy/box score analysis is "we made shots", but if you watched the game... My goodness what a night and day difference in terms of intensity and game plan execution compared to our last several games.

Win two of the next three to build some consistency and this team will be in a much better spot than they were yesterday.

This tweet right here sums up this season pretty well so far

While us fans discussed this before the season, I recall someone close (can't remember if it's one of the assistants or not) to the team mention that this team will have its struggles but when they figure it out, they will be very good. It didn't get much publicity, but so far that's exactly how the season has played out. The wins against UCLA and Texas as well as the battle against Virginia elevated everyone's expectations, and Illini fans being the overly passionate bunch they are freaked out when they hit the rough patch.

What I saw today was an Illini TEAM playing up to their abilities with a more precise plan of action on the offensive end and a lot of help defense on that end of the court...........I believe I saw more huddles and hand slappin today than any other game this year......

One could say we had fun today playing a game near and dear to our hearts..........

Cohawk with 6 three pointers...........
TSJ showing all aspects of his game and some much needed FT makes at the end.....His elevation the whole game was very impressive.....
defense was outstanding all game long.................Sincere was called The Bandit by Deon and Brian......................

coach on the radio post game interview..............

defense was elite
cohawk needs to shoot more and fake less
Dainja was great defensively
Ty has had great practices and BU has all the confidence in the world in him
Epps was great but had a couple of lapses at the end
our players are exceptional people
thought got fouled a couple times but no calls .....they call the fouls on us but we can't get the calls for us

talked a little about nebby having a veteran team

I really don't believe in addition by subtraction (regarding Skyy's situation) but I can't argue that this is the best pace , flow and execution by the Illini in a long time.........when we hit those 3's in the second half to open up the double digit lead , I admit , i became a little misty eyed and was smiling throught the mist to see the beloved having fun and playing as a TEAM...................

TEAM.......TEAMWORK...............EXECUTION...........are beautiful things to witness when it 's the beloved doing it and I'm loving the turnaround of direction by the Illini................

Next game @ nebby will be a difficult task on the road as they have a much improved team , but that's for next week .....I'm gonna enjoy this victory and hope it washes away the negative feelings I have had here lately ........

Could this win be the start of a winning streak and regaining our footing in MBB world ...............I think it is and our performance today was much needed by the team and the entire Illini Nation............

JMHO......

I pretty much was counting on struggles from the get go. I've always thought, (still do) that our fans are overrating the talent here. Good, but not as good as many proclaim. But I don't think I was counting on the struggles to include the last two losses. And after the UCLA win, I definitely wasn't thinking that would be the case.
