Illinois 61, Wisconsin 51 Postgame

by my count wisky made 4 garbage 3s in this game LOL

The first chucky 3 off a fading to the side end of shot clock 3
The banked three by gilmore, which was his 4th all year i think
Wahl, who is like a 20% shooter hitting one over hawkins
that last one from chucky
Me too. The last second three has thwarted a double digit win against tOSU and kept us from keeping Wisconsin under 50.

Respectfully disagree. If you live in the Illinois QC there is no team or fan base or program hated more then Iowa Squakeye.
I had to live in Iowa for a few years as a kid. It's kind of wild, as there is nothing else in the state. 2/3 wearing black and gold, 1/3 wearing red and gold.

I have two thoughts I would like everyone to at the very least...ponder.

1. Always respect the game and how every circumstance should be played...and seek that knowledge.
2. Always respect the opponent.................................................................................unless...of course....that opponent is Michigan. It is OK to hate Michigan. Alabama, Ohio State, USC, Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, Iowa, etc. etc. all deserve respect to a degree....but Michigan has earned complete insignificance and disdain as an opponent in any sport over the past 100+ years. Carry on.
Unless you pay tuition for your daughter to go there and you’re forced to wear a Michigan Dad shirt 👀👀😩😩😩😩😩😩

My husband also single handedly loses Illini leads. It's a curse.
After the Northwestern game I decided not to wear Illini gear on game day. Worked out well and then I forgot and wore a sweatshirt for Indiana. I have remembered again for the last two games. Losing leads has got nothing on me!

Great win! Probably the best I’ve felt about a game all season. Great display of coaching on the offensive end. Draw up plays every time down the floor for Matthew Mayer who had a clear mismatch on Esegian, and the Badgers did nothing about it. He is a special player to have and a nightmare for other teams given his size and versatility. Thought Hawkins did an excellent job on Wahl who always seems to have our number. Dain was a spark when nothing would fall in the first half. Epps is gonna be quite the Illini… the ability to get downhill and finish creatively is something we’ve desperately lacked. He’s got a little bit of Rayvonte Rice in him.

Important disclaimer: no disrespect or malice meant to the beautiful wild animals of our world. Including the badgers, the gophers, the McCaffreys.

Eh, tell me we didn’t look cleanly like a 2nd weekend of the Tournament type team in the 2nd half?

You hate losing a 12 point lead due to that doodoo (bad shot selection). But you absolutely luuuuuuuuuuuuv the character it takes to grab a slipping road game back by the neck, in a historically hostile environment, and staring a Big Ten opponent in the eyes while slowly choking the life out of ‘em.

Yo, how does Wisconsin do it? How do they recruit a roster of full of new, distinct players every year with that trademark “I’m saving myself for marriage” look on their faces? Badgers? More like the Wisconsin Chastity Belt All Stars.

And shall we allow the sweetness of this win to detoxify the very unhealthy feelings some of y’all have built up concerning RJ Melendez. That kid is gonna hit a few big shots later in the year that will have y’all feeling guilty and foolish - and you knowz it. The Melendez Redemption dunk was a warning to the haters: don’t sleep on RJ.
"The Melendez Redemption dunk."
-Hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry if this has been mentioned because I have not read everything, but I think one of the reasons for our success is that everyone now knows their role and importantly, they are comfortable with it. I think this especially applies to CoHawk. He no longer has to be a top scorer, can focus on his D, and play whatever is needed.

I tricked the hoops gods today. Wore Iowa State gear and they lost big. Anything I can do for the Illini!

putting TSJ on Chuckie midway thru the second half was big.
My suggestion in game thread.

Harris is almost becoming unplayable. His offense is horrible and his great d from early on has been very average d as of late

So much for the blue jersey curse.....
I have a bourbon gladden that is etched with a map of C-U. We have never won a game if I drink from that glass during the game. As soon as I noticed we were in the blue units, I poured a double into that glass.

This^. When CoHawk is playing D crashing the boards and moving in our offense- we win, he doesn’t need to score for us to be really good- he seems to be realizing that

We still fall in love with the 3 for some reason- when we can often get easy 2’s whenever we want them. We have a chance to be really good down the stretch

Aren’t you the one that said the mizzou loss set the program back 5 years. How you feeling now hotshot?
Not bad, ace, thanks for asking. That loss dropped us from 16 to out of the ap poll 4 weeks ago; we have yet to return. We are currently 32nd - ish in the poll, a projected 7-8 seed in the tournament with fans discussing as recently as last week whether we are going to even get in the tournament if we finish 10-10 in the league. That's not as relevant as I hope this team to be. We have underperformed for a team that reloaded with the best-rated transfer haul in college basketball.

Having said that, we have some great wins and at times look like a top ten team. But too often, on the flip side we have also been wildly inconsistent and played anywhere from disjointed to downright unwatchable. We are a work in progress, I understand that. We have plenty of time to find consistency on the offensive end to match our defensive effort. Until we do, we are not a threat to cut down the nets on April 3rd. That is the big picture I'm focusing on, and by their own words the team is focusing on the same. I really hope they are. But, until we see them put a full 40 minutes together it will remain a question for many.

our defense is one of the best in the country no doubt. our offense needs work but we have the talent for that to improve

Three wins in a row at the Kohl Center. Given how good Wisconsin has been, especially during the Bo Ryan years, I think you’d be hard pressed to name any other team that’s done that. I wonder if it’s happened.

at no point in this mindless rambling did you address my point. Like a lot of people on this forum I suggest you touch grass. Have. Good weekend

Epps has certainly taken his starting spot, but I think his defense just isn’t as effective against savvy, veteran BIG guards. But he needs those minutes and that experience this year to be a true stopper in the future. Just need him (and Ty) to get much better at shooting.

"Especially during the Ryan years". Those years are gone. So too are the years of Sparty going to the final four at least once every four years. It's our turn again!
