squawkeyes fans . . .

I did spend enough time in Illinois to learn that the reason they have artificial turf in Kinnick Stadium is to keep the fans from grazing, the difference between an Iowa hawg and an Iowa fan is about 50 lbs. and that the way to even 'em up was to force feed the hawg. Some things may have changed in the almost 40 years since I left . . .

Did Josh facilitate this apology?
Off topic, but I remember football ticket prices vs Iowa were significantly higher for that game. Seemingly to deter Iowa fans from traveling. Appears to be a better strategy than whatever this was.

Based on my understanding of (1) the behavior of Davenport and Bettendorf residents who support that team in Iowa City and (2) firsthand accounts from Illini partisans in Moline and Rock Island, your use of the term "disdain" demonstrates Herculean restraint.

Krush them. Drive them wailing and rending their garments onto the barren, frigid plains. :illinois: 🏀
This is true. I live in Rock Island. I HATE the team down the road in the town with the hospital whose name I refuse to utter.

Ditto! I live just outside of the quads. I just call them the “cheaper gas state”. Their fans are hands down the worst sports fans in the country.

You know, after writing that, I feel compelled to explain further.

I grew up in Peoria. I went to U of I for undergrad, and have lived in the QC since. I always hated the squawkeyes, but since coming here it's taken on a new level. I don't know I saw the squawks as our #1 rival till I moved here, but for any Illini fan around here, there's no comparison. The adoration of the squawks in this area is sickening. It's every where you go, even though we live in Illinois. That said, I've found the minority Illini fans, and there are a lot, tend to be more passionate, vocal, and open about their Illini fandom than I've seen elsewhere since we're constantly confronted with delusional idiots. I've anxiously been awaiting this game for weeks. Nothing would give me more pleasure than to stomp them out of their gym and take our 6th straight. The squawk obsession is going to take a whole new level next year when the two kids from Moline are suiting up in the demonic black and gold. They're already being hyped up in local circles more than they should be. I hear far more about those kids than a fellow Moline graduate, Matthew Bailey, who lit it up this year for our beloved Illini on the gridiron.

Let's Krush them.

Rumor has it that 3 Iowa players will be wearing black and white striped uniforms in disguise….is this true???….if that’s the case, playing 5 vs 8 will be difficult and may require Illinois to play some of its regulars part of the game….ILL…

Both RJ and Luke played ~9 min per game as Freshmen. RJ averaged 3.8 ppg and Luke averaged 2.0 ppg.

RJ - he's up to 22 min and 6 ppg in 2022-23. He's played in every game.
Luke - has been essentially out of action for the past 3 months. I'm going with 4-5 minutes for his reintroduction game, and 0 points. Hopefully he'll play some tough, physical defense and grab a couple of rebounds.

Hang on: are you saying that most of the residents on the IL side of the river support the Hawks? I had no idea. SMDH. :cautious:

That's akin to the legion of oppositional-defiant Cowboys fans in Washington.

Alright, moving past the pregame tomfoolery. I know Iowa is playing at home and they have a high powered offense that just easily handled one of the nation's best defenses. As long as we play with intensity (which I think we will), we should be fine. Hawkins has already locked down the better version of Kris Murray and Iowa's D is the worst in the B1G. Even worse than MN.

Illini by 7.

there are likely many reasons for this - but an important one is that many A-, B+ , and B students just cant get into Illinois, but many of those kids can get into Iowa.
There is not a lot of tuition difference either for an Illinois high school student. I would say way more Moline and Rock Island, and students from other river towns, as well as many students from Chicago suburban high schools end up, going to school at Iowa or Iowa st , vs Illinois . Both of those state schools are not "difficult" to get in to.

Oh yeah, definitely. It's not even close. Majority of people here on both side of the river support the goons to the west. As another poster rightly said earlier, the putrid odor of I*w* C*ty (have to monitor inappropriate words) extends far to the east.

Ah, the unfortunate consequence of westerly winds. Iowa City is like one big rendering plant.

Looks like 70 is our magic number. Hold teams under 70, we win. Only team to score more than 70 in any of our wins was Texas and that was an OT game. Every other team that has scored more than 70 has beat us
Noticed that the other day as well.

I think I heard somewhere most college basketball games are won by the first team that gets to 70 points.

Not a big fan of the matchup here. Can't have a slow start against those guys or we'll be in a world of hurt quickly. Can't turn the ball over, have to establish DD early, make free throws at a reasonable clip and make a point of getting the ball to the basket. Obviously, the defense has to be there. Iowa can really score. Hard to imagine us winning a game in the high 70's or 80's.
Agree with you. Hope we are shooting well as I expect Iowa to play zone a lot
