Unfortunately not a lot of players have that as part of their game and our guys haven't shown that much besides maybe Ty sometimes. Consistently the narrative is that Edey is slow and bad defensively but he know how's to be in the right position most of the time and alters a TON of shots without fouling.
As for Edey's defense, but you are correct. Not a single person who says Edey is weak defensively has ever played against a smart guy who is 7'4" tall.... or those kinds of statements would disappear.

"Great chance of winning", no. "A chance of winning", sure. We haven't had one significant true road game all season. Now, we're playing a #1 NCAA caliber seed, on the road, vs a team that has cleaned our clock, even when we had Kofi in there to battle the big guy.

I'm all about drinking the O & B Kool aid, but this one is a major, major stretch.
Well, I would agree the chances of winning aren't "great", and never said they were. I just see this Purdue team as being rather beatable, based on what I have seen of their recent play. They just don't impress me, and I don't expect much out of them in the NCAAT. Just my opinion.

It's not a "major, major stretch" to believe this game is winnable by anything less than a miracle. To me, it's no less likely than winning in Bloomington would have been, and we almost did that without TSJ playing.

I hope we just keep attacking the basket. Hawkins, Shannon, and RJ definitely got the memo.

Heck, Ty can't shoot jump shots, opponents know he can't shoot jump shots, and yet somehow he gets to the rim anyway more and more each game. He has been so impressive.

On defense, Edey is going to score 25+ points no matter what we do, but I think we just mix it up. Try to front him, sometimes double him, sometimes let him shoot his hook shot with his elbow clear-out and hope he misses. We've been doing a decent job rotating lately on shooters after a double team. The big question I have is what role Dain will play in this game and how he will do... I just fear Dain will either get blocked by Edey or throw up some wild-looking shots on offense while simultaneously being OK-to-ineffective on defense.
I'd like to see Dain get around 25 minutes. Not sure why he didn't get more tic last night. Hawkins put up only token defense vs. Hunter and Edey is even more physical.

Who starts is way overrated. I’d keep starting Epps if for nothing else for the good of his psyche. BU subs out guys quick enough when things aren’t working and goes with the hot guy/lineups throughout the game. Not saying Epps will or should play “starters’ minutes” across the course of the game, but we’ll need him to have a positive impact if we expect to go deep in tourney. So I’d keep starting him to help keep/get his confidence up.
Agree. Who cares who starts. Look at who is in at the end and who plays the most minutes

To me, the way you beat Purdue is mirror Maryland's plan. Pick them up full court and make it an uptempo game. Make the big guy run the floor. They are tough when it becomes a half court game and based on our inability, at times, to get ourselves into any sort of offensive sets...that's not a great mix. Press all game, make it a horserace and let the chips fall where they may.

controlling and contesting Loyer's 3 pt shots will go a long way to having a chance to sneak out with an upset......Gillis also.......
If Loyer/Gillis beat us by shooting lights out from 3, I can live with that. It's Edey going for 35/20/8(blocked shots) that would tick me off. Have to double him, then do the best you can recovering. That's what makes Purdue tough. They're not very athletic, but they have a pick your poison guy. We don't have much physical size, so the poison has to be to let the Loyers of the world be the ones to beat you.

Can’t let them get a big lead early. I also think the two freshman guards are hitting a wall. Wisc kept them close. Their crowd will be loud. Love to see RJ have a monster game.

Guys will have to do it without my cheering them on but not my game day rituals. We will be in flight to Jamaica.
I guess if I have to miss a few games it will be a great switch off .

Go illini!!

An upgraded version of the scUM game will have Edey bent over the last 10 minutes of the game. Drive. Run.
His legs can't go full stop for 30 minutes. He will start fouling and his shots will suffer just like Dickenuggets.

Ty Rodgers can get to the rim at will. Spread them out and ATTACK!!!

Would like to see us use the lineup that finished the MI game - TSJ, TY, RJ, Mayer and Hawkins. Gives us an extremely long lineup that can rebound against Edey and hound their guards. On offense, Hawkins sets picks for Mayer and he shoots threes over Edey, or TSJ drives and kicks to Coleman at the top of the key for three or on a dump off when Edey comes to help. Think we need to hit 3s to win this game. Pounding it into the paint with Edey there is going to be tough to do. Looking forward to a win. Need another big one for the resume.

This is what we need to do to win:

1. Run. Get a rebound and just attack the rim at will. Just like we did against Michigan. Edey will be gasping for breath 10 minutes into the game.

2. I know people hate it, but run the weave. Swing swing swing attack swing attack swing attack. Their guards are small, and Edey is way too slow for Coleman & Dain.

3. Double Edey every damn time. We have 6”6+ 1-5, rotate, be aggressive. Speed them up. We’re too long and athletic for them 1-4.

Bonus: Coleman finds a stroke from outside. If Edey is going to give him the long ball, make the shot. Force him to guard Coleman 20 feet from the rim and we can break their guards back door, or driving to the lane.

Call me crazy, but I think we’re going to win in West Lafayette. I love this matchup.

The Illini haven't responded well to games on 2 days rest this season. The tired legs that is often referred to on this forum has been discussed before. If Ilinois is to have any hope of advancing in the Big tourney or the NCAA Tournament than they will have to suck it up and play every game hard from start to finish. They will be playing every other day in those tourneys if they advance just like the other 67 teams will. No excuses!
If they play like they did against Scum and the 2nd half of Northwestern they can beat anyone but if they only play 1/2 a game they can lose to anyone.

The issue isn’t playing 4 games in 9 days multiple times. The issue is playing those games against teams who don’t have the same condensed schedule. Every ncaa game will be 2 in 3 days, followed by 4+ days off. Cmon man. It’s not even close to the same.
