Well, here we are. In November, everything was potential. Team had potential, several players were potential NBA draft choices, etc. Now we are 5 months and 30 games into reality and we are who we are.

High NBA draft picks, nah, AP ranked, nah. Just a middle of the pack team in an average P5 league with little to no chance to win the BIG tourney and zero chance to win an NCAA title.

So, …… let’s just enjoy who we are, a team with three really good freshman, two sophomores who finally found their way late, very late in the season, a quixotic junior who is a superstar one moment and a turnover machine the next, bookended by two hired guns, looking to burnish their NBA creds.

What to do?

Enjoy the mayhem they can inflict on us, their fans, and on their unsuspecting victims in the NCAA. Payback time.

I refuse to be disappointed, I am really, really (sorry Pru) looking forwarding to ambushing NCAA teams the way we have been ambushed the last years. No expectations, no disappointments, no excuses, forget the zebra, just balls to the wall.

Hawkins was trying to run the play, Mayer wanted to go hero ball and you see Hawkins yelling at them to run the play. Mayer is like my Goldendoodle, you either love him or want strangle him lol.
Not true. Coach said Hawkins turned the wrong way. All that said, you could tell it was bad from the get-go 😔.

I hope to see the the following as a our starting lineup:
Harris
Shannon
Rodgers
Mayer
Hawkins

This group consistently brings the best energy and effort.

-Dain has not been very good lately and team has played better without him out there.
-Epps should not start coming off a serious injury.
-RJ is playing well, but I think Rodgers gives
us just a little more.
RJ played outstanding defense today, he needs to be out there.

If you are a big man and cant play on the perimeter the NBA game has passed you by. Edey needs to be able to shoot like Luka Garza, then he will get looks.
True, but 7'4" changes things a bit. He will make some coin in the NBA.

A win would have been fantastic, but after that second half I feel better about this team than at any time this season. In the tourney, play like the second half and anything can happen. Play like the first half and nothing will happen.
I would normally be as optimistic after a 2nd half performance like this as you, but we've done this several times this year. Then we STILL come out flat the next game. Teams have used psychologists before. I really think we could use one.

I disagree with you. That was way too violent. If I was Mayer or a teammate, I would have a tee or forced a review by the refs.
I don’t disagree with you there. I would always be defensive of my team in the heat of the moment. I’m just saying from my perspective on my couch it didn’t seem intentional.

But, my wife tells me I’m often wrong so…

i will kill you jim GIF

Judging by most of not all comments I have seen on here I am likely in the minority (and fine if so) on the extended arms situation with Edey.

What I saw: A 7’4” man child caught in the moment in a situation where he doesn’t normally find himself. I don’t think his feet leave the ground often, so the idea of being out of control flying forward to try and stop a layup is not something he likes to do too often and the idea of that mass and weight falling forward to the ground left him out of control, scared, and Mayer ended up being the buffer. I understand the frustration, but I feel like that was not intentional to try and hurt anyone or dirty. Painter isn’t Izzo, and that isn’t the way they play. I think Edey is a good dude (at least that is my take from television… ha), but I do think it is likely us looking through orange tinted sunglasses. If this were Kofi instead of Edey I bet we would be saying “that wasn’t intentional. He’s just a big dude and why would an opposing player be there. They should know better.”

It was a tough basketball play, and Mayer went for it. No foul play from my take. But there was a foul. ;)
Dude. That was definitely a flagrant foul. It doesn't matter if Edey is scared or a good dude or who his coach is. The only debate is was it a flagrant one or two.

Team played awesome in the 2nd half, too bad it wasn't a win. Mayer played his heart out with 16 points and getting beat up on the court. It's a wonder he could get up from the floor after falling on his tailbone. Also, it's surprising he didn't end up with a concussion after hitting his head on the floor on the second fall. Make a serious run in the BTT, guys, and win this thing. ILL....

I don’t think it was a flagrant but I’m peeved they didn’t even review it. I think it absolutely warranted a review but I would have been surprised if they called it.

Matthew Mayer does a lot of good things, but I'm not sure he is a winning player. We have seen him take bad shot after bad shot in critical situations, and they very rarely go in. At times, it still doesn't feel like this team is all pulling on the same rope.
I wish MM had shot it every time in the first 5 minutes. If we didn’t have him we wouldn’t be in the NCAA Tournament field this year. You do know he was on a title team right? He has won more than anyone on our team has.

This season will be remembered as the season of miracle comebacks:

UCLA (44-29 with 17:52 left). Won

Maryland (55-45 with 12:51 left). Tied it up. Lost.

Texas (56-46 with 7.45 left). Won

Michigan State (50-41 with 13:45 left) Won

Northwestern (54-39 with 10:10 left) Won

Ohio State (45-31 with 17:00 left). Cut to 1. Lost

Michigan (81-74 with 1:40 left) Won

Purdue (51-27 with 18:25 left) Tied it up. Lost.

8 games like that this year. Usually you might get 1 or 2 a season

I think you’re right.

My interpretation: You're saying Edey should only be charged with involuntary manslaughter on that play. :)

Look at bottom of page 6 of this topic. It was an obvious push.

In a supporting role. That's not the role he is playing on this team.
No it’s not he is a Senior and better now. Mayer if not our best player he is certainly one of them. There is no one I’d rather take a shot than him. If you think we are close to as good without him you are nuts. Mayer is the best on our team at finding his shot and it’s really not close so yes without a PG we lean on him. Guy played his heart out and got beat up. He had a bad shooting day today but he has been our best shooter by a mile given his volume of shots and he didn’t turn it over 5 times in the first 5 minutes.

He's taking one for the team to take the pressure off his guys. 31 games in, we're going to pin it on the coach? I think more of TS and MM than to let them off the hook that easily. Too good of players to continually allow this to happen. TSJ was atrocious in the first half. I'm sure they appreciate BU standing up there and wearing it.
We only play as hard as we (TSJ and Mayer) think we have to. These guys all know what it takes to play at this level and have it yet they don't rev up the motor. This doe not bode well for them when looking at the NBA.
