What is he supposed to say at this point? Get on the players who have showed some pretty thin skin at times this year in front of the national media right before the BTT and Dance? Honestly not much of anything Brad can say at this point other than try deflecting attention and hope his team shows up from the opening whistle.

By the way, as an athlete if you consistently can't be ready to play at tip-off time, that's on you, not the coach. Coaches aren't allowed to strangle players off anymore, so not all that much coaches can do about that anymore. Bob Knight always had his players ready to go for a reason, and it wasn't orangle slices, juice boxes, and positive affirmations...
Perfectly said.

Hope Mayer is ok and Harris . Pretty tough hombres

The fact that the Illini lacked a true quarterback on the floor was basically the difference in the 40-minute outcome (again). Coleman did a great job in the second half but that isn’t exactly how the offense should have to be run. Thus, that created too many turnovers and bad pass decisions. And too many panicked possessions when under defensive pressure.

But the fight in this team is incredible. Easily could have just mailed it in and folded but they nearly pulled off an upset for the Ages.

Team was just gassed at the end after having to expend so much enery making a legendary comeback.

And let’s not forget that Mayer hit the side on his head hard on the floor in the first half and then fell heavily on his tail bone in the second. That kind of injury hurts like hell and makes it hard to move. It’s a gutty performance on his part that they guy could do anything at all in the second half. I wonder if they checked out his head injury at halftime for you know what.

Wish Goode could have launched a few more along the way. His shot seems to be coming back and the extra scoring would have really put the Purdue faithful into a grand panic. Which actually they were already in... but it would have gotten much worse. They are feeling relief right now... but with a growing sense of dread for what's ahead.

Yeah the crowd was openly pretty spooked. Lots of "this is embarrassing" once we got within five.

Ok, I got a beach house in Hilmar CA that says, in the unlikely event we see them again, we beat them by 10. Pink slips ?

You're on! If I happen to lose, don't tell my five-year-old where I took her beach house.

If next year’s freshmen are as good as this year’s (and we can keep this year’s), we should be in pretty good shape moving forward.

This was our first meeting this season.
Oops. Sorry. I realized this after it was too late to edit it. My point still holds: Purdue doesn’t scare me. I think we can beat them if we play the whole game like we played the second half, especially with a pro-Illini crowd…

They shouldn't. I think we found a way to defend Edey by bringing a double team from different sides and he struggled to pass out or make a move. We can beat them by having good help D and defensive rotation.

Hey, don't disagree with you at all.. This team has been screaming we are built for March since August.. so.. Its time to put up or go home.. I'm rooting for our Illini, but this is a team that is Jekyll and Hyde more than any other team I have seen across NCAA in a long time.. I mean, Uconn fan this year could probably argue the same thing..

Judging by most of not all comments I have seen on here I am likely in the minority (and fine if so) on the extended arms situation with Edey.

What I saw: A 7’4” man child caught in the moment in a situation where he doesn’t normally find himself. I don’t think his feet leave the ground often, so the idea of being out of control flying forward to try and stop a layup is not something he likes to do too often and the idea of that mass and weight falling forward to the ground left him out of control, scared, and Mayer ended up being the buffer. I understand the frustration, but I feel like that was not intentional to try and hurt anyone or dirty. Painter isn’t Izzo, and that isn’t the way they play. I think Edey is a good dude (at least that is my take from television… ha), but I do think it is likely us looking through orange tinted sunglasses. If this were Kofi instead of Edey I bet we would be saying “that wasn’t intentional. He’s just a big dude and why would an opposing player be there. They should know better.”

It was a tough basketball play, and Mayer went for it. No foul play from my take. But there was a foul. ;)

Great second half play worthy of the Fighting Illini. A talented team with evidently incurable flaws played much as we have seen all season.

But ball security, free throw shooting, and poor perimeter shooting against a home standing Purdue team that came out focused, hot, and with great energy proved to be an insurmountable mountain to climb.

Like all of us should feel, very satisfied with the comeback which was consistent as well as frenetic. Purdue was lucky to escape, and as usual, the Illini did not get the breaks on the road.

And yet, they should be ready to take on anyone at this point. Hope Epps recovers and can play again this season. Finding the right pieces when they change every week is a difficult puzzle to solve. Lets hope better shooting, FF shooting, and ball security can improve in March Madness. Go Illini.

How was his foul on Mayer not flagrant…he made no attempt on the ball!?!
It was, it just wasn't called. The non-call on Purdue when they fouled Melendez and then made a lay-up and were given the and one in the first half was big too. We ha cut the lead to 6, and that was a 5 or 6 point turnaround that shifted the momentum.

Typical Jekyll and Hyde game. But I do love the fight in the 2nd half and the lockdown on Edey. A couple of bad turnovers and missed free throws down the stretch. Just as easy could have pulled out a win. I would really like to see these guys play a complete game with all out effort not just half hearted in one half. Maybe whatever Coach says to them at half time after a poor 1st half he ought to say at the start of the game. Just sayin!

I disagree with you. That was way too violent. If I was Mayer or a teammate, I would have a tee or forced a review by the refs.

TSJ with 6 TOs. I posted about it a few games ago on his ave/game. His hands aren't great. He should never be bringing the ball down the court outside of a breakaway.

Sencire is my player of the game.

It wasn’t that he fell on him, it’s that as he was falling he put both hands on Mayer and shoved him forcefully into the floor
Josh Whitman should be on the phones with the BIG office demanding a consequence for this. It won't happen, but it might force them to call the goon play by Edey in the tournament. It would be awesome if they called one of his travels per game as well since he typically has 7 or 8 a game at least.

Watching the Michigan win Thursday and today's game game left my finger nails bitten down to the quick. But the comeback this team made has giving me hope that we could be a dangerous factor in The Dance, 2nd round winners possible. Gotta get our guards back though for bench strength. Feeling better!!
