so, Shannon and Mayer shouldn't have had a senior day?

That is trickier. I would be in favor of that personally, but definitely see the argument that even if they didn't spend 4/5 years here, they did put in 4 years of work on their game and deserve the honor.

Sr day is also about honoring the parents. There is a reason they come down with the players. Especially in high school, it is the thanks for driving the kids to practices and games, supporting their kids through some insane schedules. That is a little less applicable in college, but parents are often traveling to games and still support the players.

@Indy Illini Fan do we know what skills/qualities attracted Brad to Starling?
"One of the most steadily improving players in the class of 2022, Starling seems to get a little taller, a little stronger and a little better each time we see him," Eric Bossi wrote in Starling's scouting report. "A pure scorer at his core, Starling is creative on offense without wasting too many dribbles or playing out of control. He is at his best getting to the rim or using a series of floaters and pull-up jumpers but his deep shooting has to be respected as well. He does a solid job of getting others involved and could eventually play as a full time, albeit scoring, point guard."

Probably some combination of this.

Probably his basketball skills.
Lol right but the 3P % is low. Supposedly Moretti is solid. This guy has some length. But in theory I think it’d be interesting to know what stands out about specific prospects. Like, supposedly we backed off Fears because he couldnt shoot well…but we now want someone who is okay at best. So I’m curious what he does well that other prospects in a similar mold don’t.

I don't think Jrs should ever take part in Sr Day under any conditions. You leave early, you forfeit that honor. The whole point of Sr Day is honoring guys that put in 4/5 years to the program starter, legend, role player, or walkon. It's not just a day to honor great players.
you mean like TSJ and MM?

This guy's spears aren't just good, they're Primo
Yeah , well , then you gotta hire a blacksmith and make a fire pit.....I guess whoever is not practicing hard can be the baffle boy and keep the heat up for some primo iron work to keep his shot % above 40 %..........Always comes with a cost......It really really does...........

I agree because his 3FG% is rough, but why would we want the Notre Dame guard who can't shoot but not this Primo guy?

Starling cares about winning and his teammates … Potential is there …

Spears is an AWFUL teammate from what I’ve heard … Refuses to run offense or listen to coaches … And apparently scheduled a party for himself during the Big East tournament assuming they’d lose … Don’t know if that last part is 100% true but had a coach tell me that …

First two are enough to shy Brad away … Brad likes to recruit WINNERS

That's pretty rough re: Spears. Not a player Underwood would want to help build a culture of winning here. I'm still not sold on Starling due to his poor shooting and rough assists-to-turnovers numbers. JMHO. I'm not a highly paid DI hoops coach, though (though I'm paid quite average to be a tech on campus! :p).

I’ve heard Starling already got NIL deal set up with Syracuse …

Seems like a done deal but willing to listen to other offers if they’re HUGE $$$ …

Also, are there any shooters or bigs in the portal already that the staff is targeting? We could use a lanky big, a wing w/ shooting and size, and a PG that can shoot. (Yes, one can dream.)

Harrison Ingram will be in the portal soon 🤫 … Have heard Kansas for him but we will be interested …

Jaemyn Brakefield is a name to watch … Ole Miss transfer … Idk if he stays or goes with Beard there but potentially we’d be interested …

There are a few other names the staff is kicking the tires on but not officially in the portal … Ingram has told multiple coaches he’s entering the portal and just waiting on paperwork which is why I am able to say that …
