TSJ has all the talent in the world but I don’t think he’ll ever have that dog mentality that’s needed to be truly great.
I think he has the mentality. I don't think he has enough moves. It's always left and at a breakneck speed. When that works, it's awesome! When it's taken away, there's not much of a Plan B.

I would take it even more granular and say that the period of time when Meyer was playing without his shoe and nobody on the bench thought enough (or cared enough) to toss it to him during the first stoppage in play is a microcosm of our entire team culture.
Yeah when Mayer threw it to the sidelines i thought that was a mistake. Had he left on the court the refs would have had to stop play at the next reasonable opportunity for safety wouldn’t they?

Instead he played for a long sequence with one shoe.

I think the guys on the bench were just shocked that Mayer had passed something to a teammate.

That game had a little bit of everything wrong with this season:
-Too many 3s.
-Bad first half.
-Mayer trying to do too much.
-Hawk TOs.
-Missing FTs.
But I liked this group of guys more than most for some reason. Hoping not too many of them will enter the portal/graduate...
Interesting. Of my 30 some years of Illini fandom, I never cottened to this team's personality at all. I think the rent-a-player spackle doesn't help us feel cuddlley with this group. And I've always enjoyed cuddling. If you can't shoot, can't pass, can't care, can't adjust, you can't win . Brad could never get the right ingredients at the proper times to make a pleasant dish. Hope he learns from this train wreck.

Like the women's team, tough loss. To be honest I had a slim hope of them winning before the game, but overall I didn't feel they could pull it off. Too many inconsistencies in Big Ten play as the season went on. Arkansas was just overall the better team when it comes to mentality given their tournament experience. Here's to all the seniors and grad student players who adorned the uniform; hopefully they play professional basketball somewhere if that's their plan.

So no accountability for mistakes said by CH. Enough said….players and coaches. Did Daddy Brad get his wings clipped after some of the early season sideline frustrations? Maybe, maybe not but it was a noticeable change. The days of NIL have had a profound effect and it’s just the beginning. Try to enjoy some March Madness and let’s hope we keep all our key pieces for next year along with adding a couple. Coach didn’t seem very confident in the presser about players making good choices when it comes to the portal.

I can't stop going back to the play where we have cut the deficit to only 5 with still almost 2 minutes left and we had the ball and Coleman leading the fast break...Had he not turned it over then...I know it's not healthy but thinking about the what-ifs is probably the worst part of a loss in a NCAA tournament game as a fan.

I want him and TSJ back bad. This team had chemistry issues, and my novice take is it clearly wasn’t the fault of these two, and both are talented. I’ll defer to insiders, but if we need some guys to leave to start fresh and get back on track … I think Coleman would be a tough loss.
Just got home from Des Moines, and there are guys on this team that give a damn and a couple that sure didn't look like it.
Coleman, run it back. Next years team is yours.

CH could greatly improve his draft stock coming back and being more of a focal point while rounding out his game- I hope he does
All that and cut down on turnovers of course adding a competent point guard would help with that.

One that played really well when TSJ was out and was never the same when TSJ returned from the concussion. He got called out on TV today several times for not keeping good defensive position. Just pure selfishness on both ends of the court. It’s great when you score thirty….not so much when you go 1 for March.

When Illinois had the ball, call a 30 was my thought.

I saw Epps shoulder BU during a time out...and he has seemed to ignore BU during chew outs...he could be someone not here next year...I am torn about this...
Should we be though? A guy (18 year old at that) that takes himself out of a game, refuses to go back in and then shoulders a coach. Is that what we really want and need for the next 3 years? More individuals instead of team guys?

I don't care if he scores 50 points a game if we score 62 as a team, we need team players that understand chemistry and love thy teammates/coaches!

My belief all year was that BU did not have the discipline needed to ensure success of the program and of the players. This comment from CH kind of backs that up. I don't think you have to be an ahole coach, but the players need to know that to play consistently you need to respect the coach, the team, other players and the University. Just my opinion.

I was screaming at the television for him to protect the ball. You could see what was going to happen.

As far as I can remember, the only time there was any accountability the entire season, as far as PT goes, was Mayer sitting for the last several minutes of the game today. Where was that discipline throughout the season? BU's a lot of bark, no bite. No accountability. No real expectations.
Pretty sure Skyy lost some major tick due to performance and others earning more PT, and he ended up quitting. Dain saw a major reduction in minutes late in games down the stretch. Heck, RJ was suspended for a game due to breaking team rules. Could there have been more accountability, sure..but then we would be playing walk on players. Even then some would complain.

Brad tried to put us in best chance to win, but with this team, I am not sure what more could have been done.
