Was listening to a show on B10 Sirius earlier with Jon Crispin. He made it very clear their is a big play going right now to move on from Kenny Payne for a long term coach. Made it sound like Kenny would get a big name roster put together and step down to an assistant, or step away in favor of the "future long term guy."

I would think Crispin is very well connected and wouldn't just say that without some teeth to it.

I think it's safe to expect that there have been conversations between BU and Texas. Hopefully it's no more than that. Would not be surprised if BU at least gets a raise and extension out of it.

And Notre Dame isn't a train wreck currently? Penn St. wasn't a train wreck before he came? It's about the coach, not the program. DePaul could get back on the right track if it had the right leadership
So he’s going to leave a solid big-time school where he’s built a culture and has serious momentum for a school that was cool 40+ years ago? Makes sense.

Thanks for the insight.

School has to screw the last guy to afford the new guy… not a situation I’d be particularly excited to step into if I were pitino.
As long as the checks clear, I don't think Pitino cares if the former guy farted in the office and locked the door behind him.

I don’t even know if FDUs coach would take it and he makes like 22k a year. I’m kidding….kind of

I think Burno took the job at NIU in hopes to turn it into the DePaul gig. Bad start but that NIU job is one of the worst in the country so hard to judge.

That’s kind of the point. If they have to screw the last guy to make sure your checks clear, then those checks are precariously close to not clearing.

Plus, prolly gonna have to do that to you to make sure the next guy’s checks clear. I guess just banking on getting bought out. Or he’s just gonna get fired for cause anyway…cuz…ya know…pitino. Lol

I have a hard time believing that BU would be high on the list of any school with the institutional ego of Texas due to his relatively lackluster tournament record. For a school looking for a rebuild, on the other hand... (but then that would be less attractive to him).

My sources are on the coach side of the equation. All I'll say is that strong assurances have been made... and it'll get the alumni riled up if they pivot. I could see him still swinging for the fences though
And by alumni, I mean the players side of things. Not the fans

disagree. It would seriously take a miracle by a Sister Jean type at DePaul for them to regain relevance.
The days of slipping a west side or south side hotshot $10,000 a year to play at Halsted & Fullerton for 3 years are long gone.
Honestly, DePaul has taken our arc...they just didn't get a BU type coach. In the early 2000's, Dave Leiteo had that program going. He had it going so much that UVA snagged him. They went downhill after that. We went downhill during BW's tenure, then fell off the map during JG's tenure. BU took over an absolute trainwreck and brought us back to a contending team. I see no reason that DePaul, like St. John's, like Georgetown, like Rutgers, like Seton Hall, like Penn State, like Northwestern..... can't be competitive again. Nobody is saying that they need to elevate to a Final Four contender, but they are capable of being a middle of the pack Big East team and they are capable of having their noses in there for a tournament spot regularly.
