The “rumor” going around has been known for weeks and just hasn’t surfaced until now … I have had private conversations with a lot of people I trust and people on here about the whole Brad and Texas thing … It’s no guarantee Brad is back at this point, that’s all I’ll say …

The other “rumor” that is floating around with agents and coaches is whether or not Self calls it a career due to his health and Kansas opens … Self has talked to me himself after the incident and said that’s not his plan but as we all know things can change …

IF Brad were to leave … Whitman is ALL. IN. on one guy and it isn’t a secret to those in the know and now I’ll let you guys all be in the know … And yes for those that know who the guy standing next to Miller is … We want him as well …

To me Self is a moron if he comes back. He has already accomplished everything you can accomplish as a college basketball coach. He has more money than he needs and could easily get a job as a commentator. Basketball is not worth an early grave. Ride off into the sunset.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion but I think Miller is a better coach than Underwood. The only thing that concerns me is we have a strong group of assistants. I'd imagine we'd lose all of them.

I don’t understand a lot about sports politics. So, could someone answer the following overly long/dense questions for me?

Why would a head coach of a D1 school with great sport facilities, in a great community, making millions of dollars, with full backing of the AD and administration, with good autonomy in the workplace, and with job security choose to interview for another job unless the goal is to work in the pros or unless there is an offer from a dream school or unless one of the above positives is incorrect. Is there really that much of a difference in pecking order in the college power conferences? After the first few millions does one or two more really add that much to personal happiness?

Thank you to the boys/gals in the know.
My predictions are staying the same, because I really like BU and if I’m wrong it wouldn’t be far off from my recent run in DraftKings. I’ve been in the pits.
BU stays and Donovan to Texas.

Also, @Indy Illini Fan that is kind of wild about Self. Would be curious as to who Kansas would think is their ace in the hole. I’m sure anyone they want.

If this is going to be the conversation I just want to observe for the record that the "scandal" that took down Miller at Arizona had Underwood's Oklahoma State as one of its main targets and had OSU not essentially let spite run its hiring process in replacing BU we would have had his lead assistant arrested by the FBI before BU ever coached a game here.

You know what the richest person in the world and the poorest person in the world have in common? They both want more.

To me Underwood going to Texas could mean one very simple thing. He spent 3 years of his life in Texas and another year in Oklahoma, perhaps he just really liked living there. Things could be as simple as that. It doesn't mean a slight to your team. It simply means I can make more money and go live in a place I prefer.

That's a LOT of great info, Indy. I really appreciate you stepping up when you didn't have to. So I'm assuming it was Underwood and not Cal that interviewed with Texas this weekend then. I'd think we'll hear a lot more soon if dominoes are starting to fall. If Texas keeps winning, though, that job may not be available.

One question I have: I'd think Whitman is aware of Brad's interest in the Texas gig (duh). How does he feel about it? If Texas falls through for Brad, for instance, is he welcomed back with open arms (a complete 180 from Ron Guenther's approach)? I like my ADs to be more understanding of these types of things and not butt-hurt like Guenther was with Self, but I'm curious if Whitman is more progressive like that or old-school like Guenther (assuming the former).

I sincerely hope that BU is back, but knowing that JW is willing to go after a big name coach is incredibly refreshing. Miller would be a hell of a get and bringing Adam Cohen (pretty sure that's him in the background) would be quite the consolation prize if BU left to go somewhere else.

This is all hypothetical since I still doubt Underwood leaves, but say that happens and we hire Miller (another major if), I couldn't care less if our assistants decide to leave (and that's nothing against them--they've all been great). Miller should be able to bring in whoever he deems necessary to succeed here, and I'd have complete confidence he'd bring great assistants.

Again, all hypothetical cuz I don't think we're losing Daddy Brad.

If Chris Del Conte and Brad Underwood are working on a plan to move forward with Texas Basketball while they're still in the tournament with a great chance to have a historically successful season they're both fools, I'm sorry, and I say that as someone who agrees that Rodney Terry's track record indicates he'd be unlikely to be successful over the long term.

You play the cards you have, not the cards you wish you had.

I don't really believe any of this tbh. But I will be watching Texas vs Xavier on Friday with great interest at least!

I think we are seeing a change in the workplace as far as sports and coaches in general......as old as I am it used to be a coach would stay at a certain place that they felt comfortable at , especially if they had a great AD and great facilities...........

Now , it's not uncommon for a coach to have a shelf life of 5-10 years and then gets the urge for a new challenge and if they have built a strong enough cred that moving on to a new challenge is stimulating enough to move on.......

So , are we looking at................................

BU to Texas OR Kansas
Miller to UI or Kansas or Texas
Calipari to Texas or Kansas

wow , I'm glad I'm medded up this morning and not gonna have an anxiety attack at all the speculation going around..........I think it is a blessing that I haven't understood this whole Twitter thingy or I would probably have blood rushing out of my eyes and ears......

Thank's to the Ancient's that we have Indy ,0440 ,Lville and DBHeadband around to soothe the confused minds here......

JMHO...................

Good info. I still think BU would still be outside looking in on Texas job, more due to his age than his lack of success in tourney. They may want a safe pick after the Beard debacle though, and BU has shown he can run a program. Can't see him getting that close to the Kansas job in the unlikely event that opens up.

The Miller stuff will get everyone excited, but we've seen in the past that we don't usually get the #1 target guy.

Well obviously you let the new coach decide, but that doesn't change what I want.

Very Good/The "Next Level Down" Jobs

(A)
Historically elite programs that aren't quite in Tier 1 to programs (e.g., Indiana or UCLA). For example, UCLA has an insanely impressive history, but a coach who views himself as earning "Blue Blood" opportunities might get annoyed at the total lack of fan support compared to "pier programs" Kentucky/Kansas or the relative lack of national spotlight UCLA receives on the West Coast vs. North Carolina/Duke on the East Coast. On the flipside, a coach might get shivers looking up at Indiana's five NC banners in their nostalgic gym but be spooked off by their fans' unrealistic expectations and generally delusional attitudes - why not go have just as much of a chance at winning big at Ohio State with far less pressure to deliver immediately from fans?
I've ranted on Indinia before, but happy to do it again. So, actually, Bob Knight was elite. Until Knight came along, Ind was one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the conference. Two titles before Knight, you say? Their first, in 39 or 40 whichever, was only available to them because the league champ, Purdue, declined the invitation. To be fair, IU did beat PU twice that year. So, before and after Knight, IU is just a good team.

As to anOSU (borrowed this from another Loyalty poster and love it), there were several threads on their message boards even last year calling for his firing. Not a overwhelming call, but they expect to win, and win now.

Kansas would have to be Musselman or Oats right?

I don't think Self is retiring unless his body gives him no other choice though, and that doesn't seem like the scenario.

Just talked to a couple people tied into Texas-Brad is not in their top 3 guys, and that's if Rodney Terry is not hired. Now I am not saying 0% chance it happens, but it's very unlikely imo. Older coach with limited tourney success, their fanbase would be furious if Brad was the hire. His buyout is quite large as well which they will not like
