I think a lot of it is that the folks who are most attached to having a coach stay long term are the same folks most likely to judge his tenure here on five games. Which, you know, you do you if it’s about your own feelings, just don’t put too much stock in the value of those five games to predict the future. One thing that's nice to see in this thread..... it seems most people aren't naive about this being a business decision. I'm not seeing much "I thought we were Brad's forever team".
He's our coach. He can look elsewhere. So can Illinois. The facilities, NIL, recruiting base, fan support, etc... is bigger than one coach.
The transfer portal and NIL changes seems to have prepared fans to not get too attached to individuals, and may have taken away the naive romanticism that may have existed before. I suppose that mindset has bled over to coaches too.
Just depends on what dominos fall
Nice " ELITE " thought ginaI have yet to hear anything about hiring an elite coach. This place is slipping.
So Tyler, if dad goes will you be going with him?Been job hunting since we got beat, if not before
I’m guessing the Shakpocalypse.I may be remembering it wrong, but isn't the longest single thread in Illinois Loyalty history the Coaching Carousel thread from the year Underwood was hired?
This thread is coming for that #1 spot.
I've seen this phrase several times. Why does it matter that it was instate? Is that somehow a bigger flop than losing to an out of state mid-major?well let's be honest. If Underwood had a Sweet 16 and Elite 8 under his belt the prior 2 seasons, there would probably be a lot more anger, fear, frustration.
As it is, we've had a 1 seed get whipped by an instate mid-major in the 2nd round, a 4 seed squeak out a win and then get stomped, 6 seasons and no 2nd weekends. So there are certainly some people that say if Underwood takes a new job, there's potential for an upgrade. I know I'm in that boat.
I love you man, but please do not denigrate Abba.Exhibit A :
I heard BU eats a lot of hot wings and then farts in the locker room as he locks the players inside.......
more facts to follow as soon as they are uncovered........................
Exhibit B :
Started to pipe in music of ABBA late in the season in practice.....................
nope, we called dibsI figured if Xavier beats Texas then Texas would try and get Miller.
It might be if you are attempting to recruit Chicago.I've seen this phrase several times. Why does it matter that it was instate? Is that somehow a bigger flop than losing to an out of state mid-major?
Like chucking up a bunch of threes when your 3pt% ain’t so hot.I think it's absolutely the right move for anyone to seek out the best position for themselves based on whatever combination of compensation and location and lifestyle they value in any industry.
That also entails using your value to others to improve your deal with your current employer. But you also can't do it too often without pissing off your current employer. And you generally need to do it from a position of strength, which BU doesn't really have right now coming off a fresh raise/extension followed by a season that didn't meet expectations.
I certainly don't blame him or hold it against him if any of the rumors are true, but I do question his strategy.

Unfortunately, on a sentimental level for fans and popular perception of how much we “choked” … I personally think so.I've seen this phrase several times. Why does it matter that it was instate? Is that somehow a bigger flop than losing to an out of state mid-major?
True, I can't argue with that, but I think it takes more than 1 year of first round flameouts to lose recruiting battles to Loyola. It might be if you are attempting to recruit Chicago.
We've had some insanely long LAD threads in the off season this last year.I may be remembering it wrong, but isn't the longest single thread in Illinois Loyalty history the Coaching Carousel thread from the year Underwood was hired?
