From what was alluded to last year and from Coleman’s comments after the Arkansas game, it was pretty clear that Skyy was told he would start and play a significant role in the offense. It would have been very hard to get any qualify transfer PG with a guaranteed backup role, playing 10 minutes a game (believe 0440 kept making this point last offseason)

I think the rankings coaches methodology here is just too simplistic. Coaches make bets, especially in recruiting, all the time. To then conflate that with on-court performance (especially relative to previous years) is just not a good way to measure skill or performance. Painter, for instance, went from 29-6 (14-4) in 2010 to 15-17 (5-13) in 2014. Did he get worse as a coach? Not likely, but a series of events led to those terrible seasons in the middle.

I think the question you ask yourself now is, “do you believe that a Brad Underwood team is going to be consistently top half of the league, and usually top 4?” My answer to that is squarely yes, even with whatever that offense was last season.
There is no one with any basketball knowledge that would take a one year transfer over a 5 star point guard.

I will say that I am somewhat surprised by how many have mentioned that Sean Miller's infractions/supposed infractions are now permitted, somehow absolving him of them. He did break the rules, right?
As I pointed out in yesterday's thread, Underwood's Oklahoma State was caught committing the exact same infractions by the exact same investigation with the exact same degree of culpability for the head coach as Miller's Arizona.

And Lamont Evans was BU's first call and first choice for his staff here, and only Oklahoma State hiring the underqualified Mike Boynton and making a financially crazy commitment to Evans out of sheer spite to keep them away from Underwood prevented them from being our two assistants along with Jamall Walker and having Evans arrested by the FBI before ever coaching a game here.

Underwood got lucky and skated. The situation created much more turbulence for Miller because he hadn't skipped town before the law arrived. But it was the EXACT same violations.

Plus all of it is NCAA-permissible now, and was never illegal in the first place and that prosecution was a joke and a waste of law enforcement resources. So that dog won't hunt, is what I'm saying.

Pac-12 attendance more broadly is pretty abysmal with a few exceptions. That's got to be frustrating as a coach and player.
Very true. And this was an NIT game. Altman isn’t being paid a truck load of money to have Oregon in the NIT. I think the attendance would have been much higher if this was a regular season matchup rather than a tournament that most don’t care about unless it’s a smaller school or one that hasn’t had much success of late.

After Oregon’s second straight NIT appearance, Dana might want to be careful about what he “wishes” for. Wonder if the AD will go to him and say, “we’d like to take you up on your suggestion. I’m assuming you’re willing to fore go your buyout money when we fire you.”

I would take Tyger Campbell for one year. But I really don’t have any basketball knowledge.

... but it is sorta weird the way BU is at one end of the spectrum in terms of ludicrously over-hyping the abilities of his players in the press and then at the total other end in terms of ripping them to shreds on the sidelines."

The Good Cop/Bad Cop Dynamic in the interrogation room. Also known as the Carrot and the Stick approach. Trying to see what works.

1. Questioning BU’s ability to be top 4 BIG without a 1st Team AA is ludicrous. He had to replace like 90% of his minutes this year, and the one position you can’t miss on, missed badly. And he was still over .500. I see this season as the “floor” of the BU era.

2. I feel like the best inference of insider posts is: If Tang hops on the carousel (to Texas, to Kentucky after Cal goes to TX, etc), then there would be a very good chance BU goes home to K-State. And if TX and K-State are out after this weekend, we will find out soon.

What does he mean in the video when he uses the word "collective?" Is that simply a critical mass of boosters willing to fund NIL or something beyond that?

So if Underwood leaves do any players stay? If so who? Seems like we would most likely be almost starting from scratch

I see you are from Austin @Illini92and96 - whats your pulse on things down there?
I'm an outsider, so I don't have any specifics. But I grew up in Chicago and have been down here for 25 years with some time in Seattle. I can tell you Texas has huge state pride. We stamp the star of Texas on our overpasses and have the state flag on decorations around our houses. So we (I consider my one at this point) believe that we are special and can be the best. With UT it's an entitlement and arrogance that you don't see to the same level as A&M, for example. So I'd be surprised if the UT search doesn't exhaust all the "best" candidates before settling on Terry if they can't land someone "better"/more proven. Others know more about what UT is thinking than me, obviously though.

To point #1 - this is where I’m at. This was a disappointing team with chemistry issues & (mostly) a disappointing season. A down year for Underwood - I’ll take a 20 win season & #9 seed as the floor. The question about his ceiling rightfully remains though

I think it's curious that Indy and Lville are on opposite sides of the spectrum on this carousel stuff. The common denominator in this case is Indy doesn't miss...
