We haven't really been connected to anyone outside just reaching out. Seen several other teams either get commits, schedule visits, or at the very least have a zoom call.
In the name of Sweet Baby Jesus, pls tell me how you know whether BU and staff have either scheduled visits or had a Zoom call with prospective transfers in.

When you see the list of schools the portalers my be negotiating with it could be a slow process.

When did TS and MM declare they were portaliing to UI last year?

If I was Nike, Adidas, Reebok, - I’d be trying to sign the very best players to shoe deals while in HS, and making sure they play at the most publicized school to sell my product. I’m not sure if it’s true or not, but I read Caitlin Clark was signed by Nike and they are going to start selling her shoe.

I think that is where the legit NIL dollars benefit both the company and obviously the athlete.

I just think only the very top athletes are going to get that, and that’s way it should work.

I don’t think there’s the demand in the market to pay yearly for average players that you don’t get any return on. Boosters that want to put their name on a building do it as a legacy for themselves. Paying money to be part of an exclusive golf club membership does have tangible benefits. Playing the course, food, etc. I’m not going to tell anyone what they should do with their money, but I can’t imagine there’s a market for this (paying average players mega bucks to be on your favorite college team).
This does happen now. The thing to consider is that the pool for this is super small that brands are willing to invest in. Athletes don’t get near the treatment you think they might from a brand standpoint unless you are truly the elite like Lebron, Damian Lillard, etc… it just isn’t worth it to brands to deeply invest unless you are the best of the best, and that’s not happening if you’re a high school kid or even in college (usually).

Hunter Dickerson to Kentucky is heating up. Why is Kentucky interested? Oscar Tshiebwe is probably on his way to the NBA because of his elite rebounding. Add to that UK freshman center Ugonna Onyenso’s name was added to the NCAA transfer portal Wednesday.

I hate to say this, but I do wish Hunter would come to Illinois. The man shot 42 percent from three last year. Just saying.

1976 - 31 million people attended baseball games.
2019 - 68 million people attended baseball games.

That darn free agency killing the game.
Number of MLB teams
1976 - 24
2019 - 30

Sometimes a little more information makes a difference

divide available population by number of teams?
1976 - 9 million per team
2019 - 11 million per team

So in that time period attendance grew by 119% while the population grew by 50.5%. You just proved the point that free agency isn’t killing baseball lol the game is actually growing

Did you see all the photos of empty stadiums on opening day? I can't say much about numbers from 1976 vs today, but if you look at numbers pre-pandemic it is clear there has been some loss of following over the last 15 years or so. From 2007 to 2019 (again, pre-pandemic) attendance dropped every season and was down 14% total. I know that, at least locally here, it is becoming difficult to get kids to play anything other than basketball or football past junior high, and I am located in the Midwest where baseball is (or should be) a big deal.

Going to a baseball game on opening day usually entails missing work, school, or both - it's not exactly an ideal yardstick of the popularity of the game.

Cubs attendance in 1976 - 1.0M
Cubs attendance in 1977 - 1.4M
Cubs attendance in 2012 (they lost 101 games) - 2.9M
Cubs attendance in 2013 - 2.6M

Chicago metro area population 1976 - 7.2M
Chicago metro area population 2012 - 8.7M

Expansion teams like the Marlins and Rays have done nothing to help attendance.

Free agency was good for baseball players (and did NOT kill the game) and NIL and the new transfer rule is good for college athletes (and will NOT kill the game).

Throughout my life, opening day has been sold out attendance. It's a big deal (or was, anyway).

As far as free agency killing baseball, that's pretty opinion based. your numbers prove nothing. Have you compared ticket prices against national incomes? The fact that more women attend games now then in 1976? Way to many variables that would need to be considered. I agree that this new version of college basketball leaves a lot to be desired. My kids just started getting into Illini sports a few years ago. I find myself having to explain how it was and how it is. Don't get to excited about any player being around the next year. Don't buy the jersey until senior year. No longer can you watch a freshman grow thru his 4-5 yr time at your favorite college. I honestly do not feel the same connection to this team as I did for the last 50 years. Its only the beginning and unless something changes it will get worse and ugly. Can you imagine if a school could give the top 8 players in college basketball a few million dollars? Broney Getting 7.2 mil from Penn st? Don't think it wont happen.
I stopped filling out a bracket for March Madness at least 30 years ago. That way I can root for the underdogs. I sure enjoyed this March. Maybe that's the way I'll be able to keep enjoying college ball.

While I don’t want to get caught up in a debate over the merits of MLB free agency, I have a hard time accepting a system where people are denied the ability to choose where they want to work, attend college, etc.
Those horse less carriages did kill the pony express! You can't deny that! 🙂

Call me crazy but I think that freedom thing is pretty good.
