Where to begin?

1. That’s very Zen and all…I don’t buy it. Sorry. Not everyone is Steph Curry…and not all basketball is the way certain NBA teams play. Even good 3 pt shooters often still miss 60 percent of the time. You can still be confident and choose to follow your shot. Good shooters miss long or short.

2. Ever hear of long rebounds? Depends where you are on the court…Good shooters have the advantage of knowing where the ball might come off the rim possibly better than anyone else since they are the ones who shot it.

3. Depends on a lot of things…what kind of scheme is your team employing? Are you a 5 or are you a shooting guard? You might need your 5 in the paint after the shot…How many players does your coach have designated to crash the boards? How many does he designate to get back on D? If you’re lighting it up from the deep corner that’s different than the top of the key.
Are you falling back into a zone or a man?
Are you picking up from the basket out?
How is your team getting organized after the shot goes up. It all matters.

Nothing destroys team play like chucking up shot after shot and trotting back down the court. That’s YMCA ball.

Looks like I touched a nerve here. I’ll coach my way and you can coach yours. I can only assume you started coaching before the three point line came into existence.

So I doubt they’re bringing him in to be a go-to guy, but in these highlight (yes I get that they never miss in highlights) I saw a guy who could score in a lot of ways, hit the deep three, moved/cut without the ball, and was in the right place a lot, which to me are all things we could have used this year. I’d take this guy for a year.

This forum needs a big-time commit in the worst way. Yeesh.
Yes, we need someone to analyze, breakdown film, and either go bonkers with the "this is the greatest transfer in illini history." Or to work on getting BU in the portal because after armchair analysis, the ball only rotates 38 times on the free throw instead of the preferred standard of 42. Follow through and snap it off the middle finger for those extra 4 rotations.

Maybe it's just me, but if I had a team that only had like 7-8 players I'd definitely love to add one of the 5 best players from the Missouri Valley Conference to the group. The kid averaged 16.7/5.8/3.8 on respectable percentages. One might protest that it was against lesser competition, but we see "lesser competition" beat the big boys in March literally every year.

Ultimately, he doesn't have to be the star but he can definitely contribute.

Yeah those were the days.
Haha. I mean no disrespect. The modern game is based more on metrics. Comprehensive analysis has been done on rebounds. Mid range shots are only rebounded by offensive players about 15% of the time. Crashing the glass as a mid range shooter is more likely to lead to fast break points for the opposition than an offensive rebound. 3 pointers are actually recovered by the offense at a slightly better rate, but that is usually because the offensive team’s non shooters get in position to get the long rebound. The shooter is not in the best position to get the rebound. His job, usually is to get back on defense. If you are taking shots inside 10 feet, then yes, you should crash the glass. That’s kind of obvious though.
