There's at least 2 more guys if not more coming. If Shannon is gone, we will be adding 3 more transfers. 0 chance DGL starts next year, and Goode/Domask will be guys who come off the bench and play 15-20 minutes
I mean could Domask come off the bench, yes and I'm not behind the scenes with Brad, but I do think he is starting to get underrated a little bit. I mean the dude was recruited by Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Iowa State, Xavier, Pitt, Cincy too. These were all mainly tourney teams and very good programs. I don't think he came her to be bit player and I don't think Brad personally got involved for him to be a bit 15-20 minute player. This dude IMO is playing at least 25-27 mpg. I'm not picking just on you and will eat crow, but he specifically said in an article today from 247 that Brad showed him some Mayer, Walkup type player clips and where he expects him to be pattern wise.

I would think joining a team that's willing to pay you handsomely in NIL and happen to be playing in Spain this summer to showcase your skills to international scouts might benefit someone not on any draft boards.

Now the kid is talented and will he be a piece for the future ? Yes - if he stays
Yeah I mean let's say the quiet part loud here. DGL changes high schools every year and bailed on his commitment to his hometown school for their rival on a relative whim.

DGL is probably one and done at Illinois. Maybe not, hopefully not, don't plan it that way, put the work in, but be realistic.

This is college basketball now. None of us like it, but you find the best ways to win that you can.

I'd say that there is no way he won't be back if he is told that he won't be drafted, unless he just wants to play pro ball and doesn't care where. Now he can be paid like a pro in college, so why leave?

Bc every non-drafted free agent is looking at the path Max Strus, Duncan Robinson Fred Van Vleet and Austin Reaves have taken where the quicker they get their toes into the league, the quicker they can make big money even if undrafted.

Every additional year of college is one less year of an NBA deal down the road. Careers are finite.

The only reason it would make financial sense to stay in college and play for NIL is if you never think you’ll ever play in the NBA. Plus there’s the injury risk of staying in college and delaying a pro career. There are definite costs to delaying a pro career that 1 year of NIL may not be worth it

Smoking straight facts … He’s gonna play less than Buck did this year …

Kid is talented but he needs Fletched… The easiest way to ride the pine is not being able to defend … And that’s not exactly a strength of his …

We don’t need him to score … We’ve got proven scorers … So if he can’t defend … Can’t create for others yet … Isn’t strong enough to guard bigger guys … Where do you expect Brad to put him ?

Now the kid is talented and will he be a piece for the future ? Yes - if he stays … But is he ready now ? Absolutely not … And if you told Hawkins and TJ that DGL was the starting PG next year … There’s a 0% chance they come back …

I think he has rly high upside but he won't play a ton this year
You don't know that!! I think that young man if he actually shows up to Illinois will have a chip on his shoulder the size of Chicago. Haven't you been paying attention to all the tweets about how people have been doubting him all year???

With all this speculation going on, I'm confident we will have at least a good team next season, and that's a great feeling!
In Brad (and INDY, 0440, Lville, and DB) we trust!
Yep. We didn't land TSJ until the end of April last year and didn't get Mayer until the end of May. There is still a lot of stuff to figure out, but plenty of time to do it. Glad BU & Co. grabbed a couple of experienced guys who will be ready to go out of the gate, early in the process. Now they can focus on keeping/landing the big fish.

BU will give everyone a chance to compete for minutes, but it's going to be an uphill climb for freshmen. They have some grown men coming in trying to take minutes. Who knows, though? Everyone thought Buck would be a spectator coming into the last season & he ended up starting a few games.

Getting Fletched is not the answer to everything!!! Where in the hell do we have all of these proven scorers??? Your joking right???

Well I would think he may be more informed than most. I read Kofi made the equivalent of 600k in Japan. I don't know what Tyger feedback was to potential earnings overseas vs NIL. I would think he may make more here like many feel but its pure speculation. I have no idea but hopefully those working with him likely do. Either way I am confident we will be fine at PG.

If he bolts, he bolts. Who knows, maybe he'll see the value of a development year. Hope so.

Absolutely the right perspective.

Just to note though, that's RADICALLY different than the way you looked at your incoming freshman class in college basketball 5 years ago, let alone 10 or 20.

The right approach and balance to all of this is going to seem obvious in a decade. It's not obvious now. Coaches are groping around in the dark.

How worried are people that DGL fits the profile of someone who going to transfer after year 1?

Granted this is from a very high vantage point so I could totally be wrong but he does seem to have red flags that might signal a Skyy Clark situation in that he has crazy parents, “advisors”, has transferred several times, and isn’t actually good enough to contribute at a high level immediately.

I get that Brad might see something in him that he likes, but I assume that’s true for every recruit lol.

I don't know what you are smoking if you think that young man is going to come to Illinois to not play this year!!!
But I'm guessing KGU's main point is the DGL won't be starting unless we fail to get a PG from the portal, which Underwood has already promised that he's focused on, or if DGL beats that guy out for a starting spot, which seems unlikely for DGL to do as a 6'1" freshman.

So yeah, DGL plays, but he probably doesn't start this year. That's just being honest.

If by play you mean start or 15+ mins….Then that is on DGL. If by play you mean spot minutes 5-10 max, then good for him.
