Where would Guerrier, RayJ and Tyger all rank in the portal if they were all in right now? I know Guerrier is already in but he isnt ranked by 247.

RayJ and Tyger would be top 15 transfers … I don’t care what 247 ranks kids …

Guerrier is a top 50 transfer … Brad thinks he will be even better … This is the THIRD time Brad has gone after him … He NEVER does this … Really likes the kid …

Brought in as a senior grad transfer when that was brand new for Weber's last season to fill a hole at PG.

Had been a steady and reliable player at Bradley but was just a disaster at Illinois and just looked out of place physically. It kinda spiraled on him and it almost became like watching a guy with the yips out there, I felt really bad for him.

Maniscalco, Jaylon Tate, Ahmad Starks and Khalid Lewis were kind of a rolling problem of true PG's who just weren't talented enough to be Big Ten players, and because Tracy Abrams was so injury prone and we failed so badly in recruiting that position during that period we got stuck with them running the show.

RayJ is a different level player than any of those guys.

If I remember correctly didn't Maniscalco have some kind of ankle problems before joining Illinois?

Confirmed found a story about it https://www.pjstar.com/story/sports/2013/11/25/where-are-they-now-sam/41797944007/

there seems to be a lot of talk as if Ray J coming here is a forgone conclusion , have I missed something/ isn't he still going through draft process and has not entered the portal as of yet. Is the confidence just from lack of PG options or is there reason to believe a back channel wink, wink deal is in place ? if he doesn't become available is there any back up plans for PG or are we all eggs in one basket?

ChiefGritty’s recollection of Sam and mines are much different. Believed he played hurt and also missed significant time that year??
Oh look I don't want to denigrate the guy, and sure, perhaps injury problems were a major contributor to his struggles.

But you all remember that season. After the game where BP3 poured 43 on Ohio State we were 15-3 (4-1) and ranked #22 in the country. Then the implosion began, and of course was memorably punctuated by Weber's "mollycoddling" speech after the loss to Purdue.

That was an 8 game stretch. Maniscalco played in 7 of them, between 12 and 34 minutes in each. His combined total across that 7 game stretch was 1-18 shooting for 3 total points.

It was a rough, rough time. The comments were not nice in spaces like this.

I would have liked to see us add a knockdown 3-pt shooter, but the guys we’ve brought and reportedly will bring in are solid shooters from distance. I would have liked to see Epps and RJ come back, but combined they shot 28.5% on 214 threes. Sounds like the foundation for addition by subtraction in that phase of the game. Mayer shot better than team average, but was wildly inconsistent. The addition of a good PG and a handful of solid 3-point shooters as well as better spacing and flow of offense should help improve the team’s overall 3-point shooting over last year. Will we lead the nation in 3-point percentage? Not likely. But I think the Illini will see a marked improvement in next year’s team.

Is there a chance that Guerrerre replaces Shannon? Maybe a sign he’s more likely to be gone? Or is he more of a 4. In position less basketball of course.

What's the best free website to see how players rank relative to the rest of the NCAA? I'm looking up season stats but would like to see what percentile they are for those.

I've never seen Guerrerre play (or paid attention to it). Can someone who knows more share his strengths? It isn't obvious from his numbers 44% 2FG / 34FG / 59FT, 4RB, .8AT/TO

Another great free throw shooter 😂

The ideal lineup looks like this:
RayJ
Shannon
Ty/Domask
Guerrier
Coleman

Ty/Domask
Dain
Goode
Sencire
Harmon
Amani
Honest question. I know it’s a new world of basketball with NIL but why would anyone want to play for a coach that constantly recruits over the players he has already on his roster. I get adding a few pieces. But pushing Rodgers/Goode/Amani/Sencire just for a one year rental. No wonder BU has a high TO rate.

Playing time is earned on merit… anyone good enough to be a starter for a team as good as we want to be will be starting if they play at a high enough level. A team built around the guys you listed would be bottom of the Big 10.
