Coleman is a talented player but I just hope he can hit his three pointers. That's his ticket to and thrive in NBA. He can't blame freshmen for all those chucking balls.

Oh he knows the areas he needs to work on …

I do think part of those logo 3s were legitimately out of frustration … Were we going to get a better shot than that with Epps or Skyy running point ? Probably not … 🤷🏻‍♂️

QG only starts if Coleman and or TSJ don’t come back. I don’t see him starting if they both come back.
1 - Vet PG
2 - TSJ
3 - Ty
4 - CoHawk
5- Dain

Starters:
PG
TJ
Domask
QG
Hawkins

Bench:
Dain
Harmon
Ty
Goode
Hansberry
Buck

There will only be 3 out of this group who get significant tick … Earn your minutes … There will be competition …

Guys who won’t play meaningful minutes:
DGL
Moretti

And here come DGLs mom in 3……2……1…..🤣

I told Brad on Friday that I’m gonna sit in on practice and watch him throw Buck on DGL after Buck has had 2 summers with Fletch and Brad tells Buck lock this kid up or he’s taking your minutes …

That stretch is all I’ll need to see … Buck has that dawg in him … People counted him out this year and he rises to the occasion and plays meaningful minutes … We don’t win in Vegas without him …

Every time DGL has been challenged … He transfers …

I deal with facts and those are that … Not a knock on the kid but let’s see what he’s got and if he has to sit then let’s see what he decides to do with that news …

And no matter what Mom or Dad or the circle have to say … This is the University of Illinois… We don’t hand out minutes here … Minutes are earned on the court …

Where do people project this team to be ranked next year, assuming everything goes according to plan?

I see where you come from. While TSJ and Mayer did have expanded role comparing to them in their previous schools, I don't think they were over their heads. They were simply not as good as Ayo and Kofi in terms of scoring consistency/when needed but that's a tall bar. The theory last year was collectively they could still be a better team due to talents at more positions. However, things kind of fell apart and people blamed the freshmen PG play at the end of the season. I think that's true but new teams need time to gel is also a factor. So now we have a chance to verify/validate that theory and supposedly it all hinges on the PG we will be getting.
I think TSJ really came through. He's not a perfect alpha, but he exceeded the level he was at for the Red Raiders. Meyer, on the other hand, was every bit the mixed bag I mentioned. I will forever love his skillset. He also inarguably won us games last season. Unfortunately, despite being given the bigger role, he remained every bit as inconsistent as he was at Baylor. From early foul trouble to contested threes, it just wasn't quite what we needed.

Then there were the freshmen. Again, some exceeded expectations, some were right around what you'd expect, then one couldn't last an entire season. Unfortunately, the one that couldn't last was the one we really needed to come good. I don't think Skyy deserves all the blame. There's plenty of that to go around as Coleman has alluded to in interviews. Ultimately, I totally understand what the staff was going for last year. We saw glimpses of what could have been, but they were mostly in brief spurts, not even full games.

This year, we're bringing in experienced guys to do what they've already proven they can do. Quincy is a former All-ACC player, that's shown he can handle a starting role for a high-major squad. Marcus has been an all-everything player, that we can plug in where and when needed. Justin showed in the NIT this year he can handle either guard position and he's going to be coming off the bench.

All in all, the recalibration makes sense to me. Yeah, this team will need time to gel, but I trust fifth-year seniors with substantial college experience to be able to do it better than freshmen and a couple of guys that had never had to be leaders.

Coleman could very well leave, but he is more than happy at Illinois. Right now Shannon is probably 80% chance of coming back and Coleman maybe 60-65%

If I was you, I would update these percentages every day with a couple of slight changes. I would eat it up and enjoy every second of it. For example, Coleman ate a bad taco last night. His stomach is upset. He is now 55-70% coming back.

You’ve been pretty firm in saying that CoHawk does not want to play the 5, but in your latest projection you have him slotted there.

Will it all come down to competition between QG and Dain for the 4/5 spot, or were certain promises made to QG?

A dawg on the court is worth two in the pen.

Hope you are in the neighborhood. can't get last year out of my mind thus see a team somewhere around top 30. Like the pieces but feel we need a go to guy and don't see it on the roster yet.

I don't care if Brad has to pull a Bobby Knight and send out 2 freshman and some walkons to start the 2nd half.
If we have players who don't run the sets the coach calls they should be planted on the bench.

I like the Dansk and Harman transfers. Quincy scares me since this will be his 3rd school. However maybe he has learned. It is interesting we are adding three players who have 4 years college experience.

JMO- I think TSJ and Coleman are gone.

'what caught the attention of the basketball coaches watching a basketball game was the player playing basketball"

1- I don't believe it.
2- yes please.
Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes: "A chemistry is performed so that a chemical reaction occurs and generates a signal from the chemical interaction with the sample, which is translated into a result, which is then reviewed by certified laboratory personnel.”

Yea I think it will tell how committed he and his camp are. I am pretty pro DGL, I see a ton of potentially athletically, shooting wise and even a bit of poise at times letting the game come to him.

But he is going to be asked to wait a year, to learn, to get stronger and work on his game. The problem is...kids just don't do that anymore. They leave to get minutes. And if the rumors of his camp being... a bit hard to deal with, it might not bode well for him long term.

He'll have to trust in the long game... and we'll see what happens.

I think it was 0440 who was firm on that, although it’s possible Indy said the same and I missed it.
