We’ve established Tyga isn’t coming now (see my post earlier) RayJ would have been the second option to him. Now that RayJ is the main option, the question was who was going to back him up at PG.

People on here spend way too much time trying to dig at other posters.
I'm not trying to dig at you. You said "If no Tyga, who backs up RayJ?". That was your entire post. That came off that you thought we would getting both of those guys and one of them would be the backup PG. And now that Tyger's not coming we have to figure out the backup spot. If so that would explain why you are very concerned about our backup PG spot...you have a wild imagination of what type of player would come to take that position. We are not getting anyone close to that caliber to be a backup. The guys we have on our roster to do it definitely have flaws...but that just means they are built for a backup role.

Plus...before we start worrying ourselves with the backup PG we better focus on getting a starter.

My concern is we dont truly have a backup PG and I think it caused alot of issues last year. Its not ideal having either Ty or TSJ as backup options IMO. BU and the staff I'm sure have a game plan, but I dont think its out of bounds to have concerns about our PG situation.

Last year per game we ranked 127th in the nation in TOVs and 237th in assists. If we are relying on TY and TSJ to be the backups (they are studs, but not PGs) we could have a rocky year.
We don’t have a starting PG yet and you’re worried about the back-up? I would just relax, enjoy the off-season and you’ll find out who the backup is in the first couple of games. Then you’ll actually know if you need to worry.

I don’t know that we needed to establish that Tyga isn’t coming. He’s a 33 year old rapper, who I doubt needs NIL money.

I enjoy the stats, and hearing what others think the staff is going to do. Was more looking for what am I missing, cause it doesn’t seem good.

Let’s start with your expectations. What do you want to see out of the 2023-2024 squad?

- top 20 in defensive and offensive efficiency. Defense isn’t going to be as hard as the uphill climb we have with the offense.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Coleman plays well or shows enough of his tools to scouts to the point where he’d stay in the draft. I think he’d look even better surrounded by NBA players to play off of.

He’s already got a great defensive IQ and versatility. On offense he wouldn’t have to run point but he could show his skills as a secondary playmaker and these guys would finish his passes better. If he steps out and hits some threes and does some decent post moves he’s probably good enough to go. Teams just need to see the skills even if he’s still raw because they probably trust their player development enough anyway.
This is probably going to sound crazy but I kinda hope Coleman does leave. I want Shannon back but I dont care about Coleman.

I love what he brings to the table defensively, but he is incredibly frustrating offensively and his desire to not play the 4 instead of the 5 seems like an ego thing. He's big enough to add some weight and play the 5 at the NBA level, especially since he's really not a good shooter.

It absolutely drives me insane to watch a long athletic 6'10 guy stand on the perimeter in college and ballwatch instead of crashing the offensive boards. Use your athleticism, slash to the basket, shoot if they leave you wide open but play to your strengths. This last season Coleman would often completely kill ball movement by pump faking, holding the ball, taking a few dribbles, and doing nothing to stress the defense. Every time he got the ball on the perimeter it would allow the defense to reset.

The best version of an illini team with him would be with Hawkins playing the 5. Transfer PG(RayJ?), Shannon, Domask/Goode, Rogers, Hawkins would be the most versatile and dangerous lineup and enough of the guys are capable of shooting that it would open things up for Rogers.

I don't know who the Illini would be in on if Hawkins leaves but a center fits the roster composition better than a 4 imo. Dickinson is probably a pipe dream but would make that offense incredibly dangerous and probably allow them to make a run at the big10 title.

So with Hansberry being an obvious one and done due to heading to the NBA do we have our eye on any other incoming freshmen to replace him? I’m nervous the staff doesn’t know about this. /s

Hansberry projected to be picked between Skyy and and Melendez. Podz is a mid major talent and should get 15-20 minutes at Santa Clara.
