And Andrew Booth, DB, was a 5-Star, number 14 player in the country as a senior in 2019 and Devon Weatherspoon not ranked. Maybe putting numbers and stars a side, someone can objectively give their opinion.Guys ranked #19 get to start as freshmen. Guys ranked #126 generally do not.
He said they “generally” don’t start. I don’t think providing an exception disproves that. And Andrew Booth, DB, was a 5-Star, number 14 player in the country as a senior in 2019 and Devon Weatherspoon not ranked. Maybe putting numbers and stars a side, someone can objectively give their opinion.
FYI, looking back, we were not interested in Ulis, due to his small stature, until the big dogs started showing interest. He wasn’t #19 as a sophomore or junior..
The trouble with Ty is that he's no threat to score. You don't actually have to guard him. Even though they may be young, I think we'll be happy with Gibbs-Lawhorn and Moretti at pg, esp. after they get half a dozen games under their belt. More than anything else, we need shooters.
Yes, it’s all about slashsability…Working on his handles will increase his pt and enhance his slashability (I made up this word) hence more scorability....and the best thing about freshman is they become sophomores...
Ranking has absolutely no influence on the work ethic, heart, and perseverance that DGL...or any player....possesses. We all should know by his film that he has skills and athleticism to do the job. But categorically stating that any Illini player with his skills will see only a few minutes on the floor is foolish. Likely, he needs a lot of work on defense, but if he wants to contribute and work hard enough, he will do just that....most likely from the bench. Yet we have seen enough proof in college hoops that anything is possible. Glad we have both DGL and Moretti....the latter of whom will need to elevate his skills considerably if he is to see the floor in the next couple of years.Guys ranked #19 get to start as freshmen. Guys ranked #126 generally do not.
Agree. Ty has shown me a quickness and confidence to score within 7 ft of the rim at any time in a number of unpredictable ways. He will need to be able to shoot the 3 ball if he is to ever suit up in the NBA, but he can also be an Illini legend just by doing what he does so well now. He needs to get help on his shooting and work hard at it but his scoring is pretty solid.Someone here thinks Ty is no threat to score, and I find that hilarious.
If he has as much perseverance as you suggest, then a little setback like not playing many minutes as a freshman won't deter him from sticking around.Ranking has absolutely no influence on the work ethic, heart, and perseverance that DGL...or any player....possesses. Or Andre…but FWIW he was sure right about Podz.Unless it's RJ
Its a slow news day, so lets put an end to one of the rumors: Hopkins just announced he is staying put.
BB? Someone might accidentally take a BB related Hopkins post seriously.yeah but which one? there must be a couple hundred BB players with that last name LOL /s
Before he broke his ankle DGL was a 5*Guys ranked #19 get to start as freshmen. Guys ranked #126 generally do not.
You’re not new to this board…..THAT surprises you? There is quite literally very little that I read on this board that actually “surprises” me at this point.I honestly can't believe there are people who still think DGL and Moretti are gonna contribute this year...

Did you see him take a single jump shot all year? I didn't. And at the FT line, he's a true brick mason. Do Illini fans ever pay attention?Someone here thinks Ty is no threat to score, and I find that hilarious.
Why? Over the years we've had several freshman pgs who were outstanding from the get-go. It's not that unusual.I honestly can't believe there are people who still think DGL and Moretti are gonna contribute this year...
So, we’re having a dance-off, are we
