When Penny didn’t lock it down … I knew he was AZ bound … Think I posted it a while back ? Not for sure …

Boswell is in an interesting spot … Someone would really have to step up with NIL and he won’t even touch the portal without a deal lined up …
Boswell played really well late in the season for a freshman. He will be a really good player.

Ok, this might be kind of long, or…. It might not be. Here we go.

As I watch this Ty discussion I am struck by a couple of things. One, I think MOST people see Ty’s value and also recognize that some things could be better, mainly shooting. Two, some people must just be anti Ty…….in order to be so dismissive of his offensive game.

I have coached and won ALOT of basketball games over the last 27 years. Both genders, from JH to College. I was always a “feel” coach or a by the gut kind of philosophy. As I watch Ty, within the construct of our team, I often thought, “Just put Ty in the game.” But, like a lot of people I would be concerned about the “lack of offense”, but, my gut told me that we just played better when he was in. Especially towards the end of the year.

I am also a stat geek and these new analytics, while not a hallmark of my coaching career, are really interesting and they validate my gut. We were better when Ty was on the floor.

So I used conference games, because by that point Ty was getting his feet wet and becoming more of a fixture. So here is the “facts”.

— Ty was our 2nd best shooter by %. Dain at 59 and Ty at 56.
Problems with this? Not much. It is a smaller sample size, and he was not lighting it up with jumpers, but he made 56% of the shots he took. Instead of complaining about his shooting percentage, praise him for shooting shots he could make.
— Per 40 minutes stat: Ty averaged 9 pts, 10.4 rebs, 2 assists, 1.4 Stls and 1.5 TOS.
The 10.4 rebs led the team.
— The per 100 possessions stat is one that I find way more interesting. As a coach, if I see that a guy gets “x amount” per every 100 possessions, i may want to try and give him as many possessions as possible. In essence, who is doing the most with the time they are given. What does Ty do for every 100 possessions he is on the floor? 13.4 points and 15.4 rebounds. Once again the rebounds leads the team. He is also 5th in assts, and 3rd in steals.
— But here is the kicker especially for the “his offense sucks“ crowd……. He has the second best Off Rtg on the team behind…. Luke Goode. Which that is a whole other deep dive that shows just how good Goode was when he came back. WE MISSED HIM. That ORtg means that the team was more efficient when he was on the floor. Then here is the kicker, Ty’s usage was 12.6%. 10th on the team, yet his production as it relates to the team was 1st. For perspective, Terrence usage was 27.2 and Mayer was 25.7.

So I think the stats say that the “If he develops a jump shot…. He gone” crowd is way more accurate then the “he will get buried on the depth chart“ people. Also, this crazy notion that he is 19 and now cannot learn to shoot is asinine. Shooting is muscle memory and confidence. If you see enough of them go in while shooting the right way, you will improve.

I am glad we are not playing against Ty.

I've been checked out for a week. Is Hunter Dickinson still playing chicken with UM boosters or what?

Be able to be honest about where the program is at and not get so offended over constructive criticism. There are fans on here that love our success over the past few years but still recognize that we need to be better to get to a championship level.
I think every poster on this message board believes this. We all want championships. But how can we demand one?

The basic sauce for pommes frites is mayonnaise based, but is flavored. A common one resembles 1000 Island dressing, but is better.

I like to dip my fries in ranch or french onion dip.

The key to fries that are soft inside and crispy outside is cooking them twice. First at around 300 to 325; then finish them at 375 to 400.

Didn't we all just live through the era where Illini fans + AD *demanded* that the admittedly average P5 bball and football coaches of the time be forced out. But then found out that the only coaches that would pick up the phone as replacements were either: using us to negotiate pay at another school or were MAC coaches with no other options.

Let's not do that again.

Josh has shown the ability to make tough calls and come up with long term plans in multiple sports. Sticking with Josh here to continue to do that. Feel no need to act as a forcing function as a fan, as much as I'd like to win a national championship in all sports every year.

I think Thomas was just a MAC guy, had ties to the conference and hired his coaches from there. Both Groce and Beckman were disasters.

I think Underwoods seat may heat up if he continues to not make runs in March but I'm ok with a consistently competitive program that can make a deep run when they get the right guys because that is what basically every good program does outside of the blue bloods.

Just did some reading on that. Yikes! The guy seems super vain (putting his signature on the signs) and clueless about running a restaurant chain.

I can see why the old business model didn't work, but they should have instead focused on embracing the fast casual model rather than racing to the bottom to be fast food. Essentially, enter the Shake Shack quality space and try to essentially be like an elevated Freddy's (which, by the way, captures a lot of the old Steak 'n' Shake flavor in a fast food model).

Bean crock.
S&S left my area of IN after Covid. I recently visited one in Mt. Vernon, and it was a sh*t show. I paid for cheese fries...but did I receive them? Nope...just some soggy, nasty fries. Even the burgers tasted like shiete. Cheese can only do so much

A) refreshing - a well thought out and rational treatise. It'll never pass muster with the Uber-hyperbole or doomsayers here on Loyalty. But MAN that's a nice read, thank you.

B) Five Guys for best fries, sorry guys. Fresh off the fryer, there is no fry better . . . . anywhere. (Although fries in Italy are pretty special - fried in olive oil).

And it's the most illogical thing...maybe in history. You literally watch them put a fresh potato in a slicer machine....put them in a basket..and fry them fresh.

And they are so meh.

Late to the fry party but…that is actually why their fries suck. The primarily accepted culinary technique to make perfect French fries is the double fry. Partially fry the fresh potato, remove it and chill (freeze) it, and then fry it to finish and serve after it’s been chilled. Crispy outside, fluffy inside.

However, in and out has a fresh, never frozen, food policy. So their own rules don’t allow them to use the double fry technique, despite it being accepted as the best culinary way. They are literally doing it to themselves.

That said, Ty Rodgers is a really good player. Consider the positive impact he has on games without the ability to shoot, the way basketball is played right now. It almost doesn’t make sense how effective he is. Normally, if you have a player whose shot isn’t falling, you tell them to find ways to positively impact the game in other ways. Ty does that.

Does his shot need to get better? Absolutely if we want to become the best version of our team, AND if he wants to become the best version of himself. I’d also add that he needs to get more comfortable finishing left handed at the rim. He had a lot of opportunities on the left side where he still tried to inside scoop with his right hand. Fixing one of those 2 things immediately makes him more dangerous. Fixing both, we have a great developmental sell for recruits, about how we took a guy who made zero shots outside the paint his freshman year and turned him into a lottery player.

Yeah, I know we are looking for established players, but I think he is ready to take that leap. While instantly, Dennis is probably slightly better, I think I would take Boswell just knowing local status, long-term perspective, etc...

If they could redshirt him this year for us, that would be even better. You got any connections to Tommy Lloyd? Can you ask him to do us a solid favor?

That sounds great but he treated Illinois like a joke when he had a chance to come-saying the visit was just his mom's idea. Shouldn't even be in the conversation here.
