What's your conclusion?
Every single piece of info we get from insiders is just the best information at that time. You cannot expect them to predict the unpredictable. They can't assure you of something that isn't certain. There is no 100% lock until the player is on the court. Anything before then is just 100% confidence.

Some people self inflict a lot of pain by not understanding that.

There's no need to emotionally react until RayJ announces whatever. Then you swallow the bitter pill but don't whine, complain, or be a 🤬.

Personally: wait to see RayJ play out, go to the next option if needed, do the best with the next option. Get our roster locked. Form a good TEAM. That's how I look at it.

Illini went from locked favorites to not even in the picture?
My thoughts on this post are that we have removed ourselves from the field, fed up with the dance and with an alternative that has higher player value-to-NIL quotient.

I think it's more prudent to look at assist/turnover ratios than overall numbers. His was 2.8, which was around top 30 in the country. When the ball is in your hands as often as it was for Collins, you will have turnovers.
Dennis' ratio was slightly better. He is obviously a better scorer. It's not hard to see why the staff is pulling out all the stops for Dennis, but if we get Yuri as a consolation prize, consider me consoled.
Same here. Collins is also a good defender. Was named to the A10 all-defensive team

I know we are freaking out about Ray...does all of this change the timeline for the Beloved? Do we have to wait another month for our PG?

It says he graduated from UCLA here so maybe he could grad transfer? Idk I'm just curious and this is very far-fetched
Another note… on Saturday Sportstalk, former Illini assistant coach Mark Coomes said that players often enter the portal or the draft with intentions to graduate but ultimately stop going to class. They can “police” them while they’re still on the team, but once they enter the portal or declare for the draft, they have no leverage to force them to go to class… they can only encourage them to do so.

Perhaps this is the case with Tyger?

Those are some crazy true colors.

I really think this is just the current state of things in the NCAA with regards to NIL and portalling. It's also why I had some concerns about how sustainable or viable going to the portal each year to get multiple starters really is. It will be very interesting to me to see how things progress over the next couple years as I think programs that can successfully add complementary pieces from the portal while having a home grown talented core will succeed while those who rely on the portal for home run talent will be taking on much higher risk of feast or famine scenarios with shakier reward than you'd like because of uncertain chemistry.

Seems like not the news we wanted to hear today but just the nature of things.

I can’t imagine this is just a bidding war, we must have significantly bigger pockets than Utah. I’m wondering what exactly changed.
But if a rumor floated out there can turn $500,000 into $600,000, maybe a rumor needs to be floated.

So are we all just supposed to ignore that you guys have said nothing but RayJ for 2 months & be happy that we lost out on a lock. Like hey let’s post some pictures of Yuri Collins like nothing happened lol…. would love to have Yuri FWIW but way too soon for this….

Regardless of how this portal saga plays out, I feel like it's more likely than not we start the year ranked (or near the top of receiving votes) 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Just think….RayJ wants more money $$ and all along he is touting this, which I don’t blame him…but we offer more than any of the other schools….he starts leaning towards the school that doesn’t offer him the most money. You move away from the negotiation table at that point. Do you want someone on your team that doesn’t stick to his word? Just sayin. 🤷‍♂️
