So the SEC, trying to get every advantage they can, with some of the most cut-throat coaches in the biz are going to short change a walk-on even though the NCAA allows it? Other than some bizarre or unique circumstance, I don't believe it. That's not how the SEC operates. They have oodles of cash. Someone is going to tell Nick Saban that he has restrictions that Ohio State does not?

It's been open meals for scholarship and walk-on's since 2014.

Feldman broke the initial story with excerpts on a few other draft eligible players who had chipped in NIL money to pay for walk-on meals, including Tank Bigsby and a Florida player (Dexter? Maybe Richardson for his linemen? Can’t remember).

For those that have seen Jenkins film or other insights: is this someone who can contribute this year or more ‘24 and beyond?

First time I've seen tape of a Bielema commit and felt that the guy was offered mostly on raw athleticism. I think there's a lot to like from the 2 and a half minute video I could find, but going from JUCO to Power 5 to playing on Sundays is one heck of a grind.

There's one play where he gets knocked back on his heels but still makes the tackle, it'd simultaneously concerning but also kind of like... wow.

not many clips out there. I suspect Jenkins is much more of a futures play, than breaking into the rotation this season. Which is fine and dandy, considering we're flippin' loaded (how weird is it to say that?) we are at his position. Am kinda hoping he redshirts. Move in with Tank and Charlie and become locked and loaded for '24.

Guessing futures too…just because he only played in 5 of 12 games. Not sure due to injury or coaches decision.

I can't possibly express enough how wonderful it is to have this level of competition for our recruits -- as opposed to the Mid American Conference all the time!
It's so nice to have a head football coach who clearly "gets it" and is able to communicate effectively with (A) recruits, (B) the media, (C) his assistants, and (D) his boss.

EVIDENCE (This 2023 pre-season ranking from College Football News):

24 Texas Tech

2022: 27 2021: 27 2020: 79 2019: 102 2018: 68

College Football Rankings First Look: (8-5) Texas Tech will more than hold its own in a loaded Big 12. QB Tyler Shough is going to be huge leading the high-powered offense.

23 TCU

2022: 2 2021: 73 2020: 44 2019: 82 2018: 52

College Football Rankings First Look: (13-1) The Big 12 is better, but TCU should be fine with good parts back. However, the top skill guys are done. There’s a lot of magic gone.

22 Illinois

2022: 24 2021: 59 2020: 71 2019: 69 2018: 103

College Football Rankings First Look: (8-5) Ole Miss QB Luke Altmyer should run the attack and add more pop, but the loaded defense will be the star of the show again.

21 NC State

2022: 39 2021: 15 2020: 37 2019: 112 2018: 36

College Football Rankings First Look: (8-5) QB Devin Leary is off to Kentucky, in comes Brennan Armstrong from Virginia to bomb away. The defense will still be nasty.

20 South Carolina

2022: 12 2021: 37 2020: 81 2019: 70 2018: 69

College Football Rankings First Look: (8-5) Spencer Rattler returns to lead another big offense. Now it’s up to the defense to make a major step up, especially against the run.

19 Wisconsin

2022: 34 2021: 18 2020: 25 2019: 11 2018: 54

College Football Rankings First Look: (7-6) Luke Fickell is in, and so is a better passing attack and a whole slew of strong transfers. Watch out. This could come together fast.

I would figure the same. Looking at Jenkins on build alone (albiet from his tape on YouTube) Hes got a large frame but not exactly filled out yet.

Considering the current depth of Gabe and Seth (Both tracked NFL guys if they continue doing what they have been doing) We still have Zeke and Alec Bryant as serviceable depth. (wow never thought id type that about Illinois EDGE play in my life time)

Unless something drastic happens injury wise I would venture this is Jenkin's year to get in the weight room with Tank and fill out that massive frame of his while developing more consistent technique at the point of attack. He certainly has the flashes that show he could be an impact player on all three downs tho.
