Kevin Durant, Wesley Mathews, Dominque Wilkins, Rudy Gay have come back from an Achilles and have not or did not decline. This is not an injury that you are unable to recover from.
Kevin Durant went from May 9, 2019 until December 22, 2020 until he played another competitive basketball game. That is 593 days.

Jeremiah Williams tore his Achilles October 6, 2022. If he took his time recovering for as long as Kevin Durant did, he would not suit up for another game until May 21, 2024.

Williams was likely going to come regardless of what RayJ was doing...all I will say for now. Like I said, we aren't done.
Reading between the lines here, seems like a roster player on scholarship (or one of the transfers, my guess would be Harmon) was strongly considering leaving even prior to the events of today.

In lieu of speaking negatively about a player I admittedly don’t know a ton about, I’ll just say I really hope Lville is on point here.

Reeves is a great shooter and can definitely score, but averaged 1 assist a game playing 28 mins last season. If he’s the other addition we’re relying on a mix of a complete non-shooting threat coming off an Achilles tear who’s gonna need a waiver to even be eligible, a guy who was good in the WAC but the big tens a huge leap from that (sounds like he could even be pushed out anyways), or a sophomore forward to play the point?? Head scratching considering we just witnessed how a lack of reliable point guard play can undermine a talented roster

This is an upgraded and more experienced roster than last years squad. We relied upon Clark being the savior last year and he was a total dud and than had Epps blossom before our eyes than he left. We have a lot more scoring options this season and the PG spot doesn't have to produce as much on the offensive end. Play D, facilitate ball movement and don't turn the ball over.

Sucks not to get RayJ Dennis but time to move on. Not putting all my eggs in one basket but I feel Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn and crew will ball this season.....

Didn’t you say you were done for the day hours ago? Plus I don’t like the shooting percentages from Williams, especially from the FT line. We’ll see, but Brad has to address his ineptitude to close on PGs

So… what does J Will bring to the table here that Sencire doesn’t? Better ball handling and passing? Defense and shooting seem to be the same player.
A bad Achilles injury in October.

Goodness. Some of y’all with the doomsday mentality. . .

We got the two most important pieces back yesterday. They are going to be KEY in leadership and team chemistry. They already were humming playing together last year.

We thought we were gonna run the table with last years team and look what happened. Kstate was voted last in their conference and killed it with their group of ragtag transfers.

We don’t know how these guys will gel or grow until the ball is tipped in November. But I can bet the older senior and grad experience will be a hell of a lot better than relying on freshmen. So let’s just be patient and wait and see.

I’ll be watching every second of basketball regardless, cause I love this team. I know everyone here does, that’s why we are here posting on a Thursday afternoon in June.

:hailtotheorange:
K-State also had a STUD point guard.

I guess the most ideal situation here is: Moretti leaves, Williams replaces his role, and we land a transfer like Jaelen House to be our starting pg.

(I asked if House would be an option here and LvilleLL liked my post so maybe there's something there but I'm probably just reaching)

This announcement feels more like a “need positive news following that nut punch” PR move than the actual solution to our next year PG problem.

Like, as some posters alluded, we’ve had him as a depth piece for a bit (week? Couple days?) but we’re waiting to announce it until the “creaning” happened.

But then today happened and this was a way to throw some water on the fire while the staff scrambles for a PG for this year.

I dunno, just a theory considering he announced only a few hours after we were left at the alter. There must have been some earlier coordination right?

I don’t think that Dominique was the same player post injury.

Not sure I would say Epps blossomed. Could score at times. Not good on D. Not a good facilitator. Had no clue on PnR.
Really a smaller 2 guard. Would have been glad to keep him but not a PG.

I mean, if I were a booster who had already invested in others on this team I might not be happy but I wouldn't just cut off the flow of cash. You've still got the chance to go out and get someone who will make a difference, so why tank it over this?

I might have some conversations about the decision to go all-in on senior transfers but that impacts how you spend next year, not this year.

If IL staff and fans are so thirsty for a deep tourney run that they openly support kicking a committed recruit off the team to open up a scholarship for a potential new recruit, this site can no longer be called Illinois LOYALTY. Suggestions include Illinois Brutality, Orange Shade, Chief Douchebags.
