Can Williams be a walk-on, or has a scholarship been committed to him?

Can a grad transfer be a walk-on?

I know walk-ons can get NIL money, so my questions are only 99% crazy.

Ok I’ve had some time to think about the Williams commitment, some thoughts…

1. Elite defender on the ball. With Sencire, we know that we have 2 dogs at all times being a pest for 40 minutes on the other teams ballhandler. Major major major improvement from Skyy/Epps….Can RayJ play defense at the power 5 level? Could Yuri Collins? Maybe, and Yuri definitely not…

2. He’s not a scorer nor a shooter, big bummer. But he is a good ballhandler and a good passer. Run the offense, don’t dribble dribble dribble and set up our wings +Coleman/Dain to score.

3. Veteran.

It’s not a bad pick up, if we can land another guard GREAT, if not, we’ll be fine. I’ll ask this, if RayJ wasn’t a possibility, we probably would be ecstatic 2 months ago with this roster. Hindsight 20/20. Let’s ride.

I've defended BU for years, and I think rightfully so because he pulled us out of the gutter. At this point though, it feels like his ceiling as a coach was the Ayo/Kofi team that lost to Loyola. We just seem to be missing one key piece every year and every year we all just say, including him at times, if we just had this ONE piece. I thought that if TSJ and Coleman came back, and if we got a good PG from the portal, BU could maybe bust through that ceiling finally this year. That seems very unlikely to happen at this point barring something crazy (please for the love of god let us somehow get Tyger).

Illini fans deserved being pulled out of the gutter, but I think we now deserve fighting for National Championships as we are one of the premier programs in college basketball history. I have a hard time believing that will happen now with BU as our head coach.

Williams was likely going to come regardless of what RayJ was doing...all I will say for now. Like I said, we aren't done.

This is what I came in here to find out about once I read Williams may need waiver to play right away.

At some point we have to question if brad is too stubborn for his own good. How can he have watched that team last year and ended up in the same exact spot? He’s not putting his players in the best position to succeed. His players aren’t going to the NBA. He’s not winning in march. At some point… change it up man.
Do you feel like he's not trying to address the PG issue? How is he being stubborn?

We've changed it up three times in the last 15 years. That's not good +.....Brad pulled our program out of the dumps and has raised expectations to the point where you actually asked the above.

When was the last time that getting high enough caliber recruits to even be evaluated at the combine?

When was the last time(prior to Brad) that our expectations were a top 4 seed and not "hopefully" getting into the tournament?

When was the last time(before Brad) that we won a NCAA tournament game at all?

When was the last time(before Brad) did we win a Big Ten regular season conference championship?

When was the last time(before Brad) did we win a Big Ten Tournament championship?

When was the last time(before Brad) were we a #1 seed in an NCAA Tournament?

People are right. He hasn't been to a Sweet 16. We get it. Can you even begin to imagine where we'd be without him? This anger towards him is absolutely ludicrous.

Williams gives me Isaac Likekele vibes. I would have welcomed that to last years team in a heartbeat.
I went to Oklahoma St., loved Ice. Wish he would've followed BU instead of going to ohio st. Would be thrilled with Williams being comped to Ice.

It sounds like we offered Dennis the moon and heartily picked .Baylor. How can you blame Underwood. I am pretty sure he is trying every thing he can to get a point guard. There is no one on this forum who actually knows ( besides the insiders) who they are after. So quit badgering the coach.

Sounds like we are adding Williams as a depth piece and are looking to add another guard, which means we will need to run someone off.

Most likely candidate seems to be Harmon as most other guys are already with the team. Absent a transcript or some other issue which is preventing Harmon from coming, can someone explain to me how Williams is an upgrade from Harmon? I get that Williams has up to 3 years of eligibility remaining but he needs a waiver to play this year and highly likely he needs at least another year to get back anywhere close to 100% anyway. All our roster moves thus far have screamed win now. And if we are in win now mode I don’t see any way that Williams is preferable to Harmon.
I think the staff may see him as preferable to Moretti, not Harmon.

Ok, given how well the 15 years prior to Brad getting here went....who do you suggest would win that one more game in the tournament, so that is winning multiple Big Ten Championships, having multiple NCAA Tournament appearances won't be continually overlooked?

You put it right....we were in a decade and a half long gutter and you're ready to toss the guy who COMPLETELY changed not only the culture internally, but the view of us on the national stage? We have top 15 recruiting classes year in and year out. We have the best prep player in the state coming in next year.....yet, not good enough.

The short memories here, by some, blow me away.

because we didnt get a guy from Toledo? I'm not saying he's for sure the answer but lets just see how the season goes and stop proclaiming this season over before it started when we literally just brought back two very important pieces
