because we didnt get a guy from Toledo? I'm not saying he's for sure the answer but lets just see how the season goes and stop proclaiming this season over before it started when we literally just brought back two very important pieces
No, because we didn't get a guy from Toledo while also passing on multiple other PGs that wanted to come here who are now at other schools.

Also mentioned how this happens almost every year that we are missing one key piece. This is just another year like the others and at some point we're going to have to want something more as a fanbase.

The more I read/see about the Williams' transfer I think it was just an add for the future and some protection for *maybe* end of the year next year. With him needing a waiver to play this year, I wonder if they are planning on foregoing that option and just having him fully healthy and ready for the following year instead of this coming season with 3 years of eligibility starting then. He could not be on scholarship this year while he continues to rehab and learn the offense/defense and still earn NIL money making it worth staying for the year.

In terms of his play, I think some are over-reacting. He is not RayJ in terms of shooting/offense, but he is a 6-foot 5 true PG who averaged 10 points and 4 assists at Temple while playing solid defense. Temple was one of the worst shooting teams in college basketball the two years he was there, probably should have had more assists than his 4 per game if his teammates could shoot at all. At 6'5" he should be able to post up small PG's on offense at some point too. I like him as a long-term option more than a replacement for RayJ.

If the smoke around Trey Woodberry and Antonio Reeves is true...

I've defended BU for years, and I think rightfully so because he pulled us out of the gutter. At this point though, it feels like his ceiling as a coach was the Ayo/Kofi team that lost to Loyola. We just seem to be missing one key piece every year and every year we all just say, including him at times, if we just had this ONE piece. I thought that if TSJ and Coleman came back, and if we got a good PG from the portal, BU could maybe bust through that ceiling finally this year. That seems very unlikely to happen at this point barring something crazy (please for the love of god let us somehow get Tyger).

Illini fans deserved being pulled out of the gutter, but I think we now deserve fighting for National Championships as we are one of the premier programs in college basketball history. I have a hard time believing that will happen now with BU as our head coach.
Get some high-end coachable recruits on the roster, call up Bruce Weber, shove a few million at him to see if he'd be willing to come back to coach them up for a 3yr max. term contract for one last shot at a National Championship run, watch 50-75% of Loyalty have a complete meltdown, and then enjoy the long tourney run to assuredly follow. And as we sip our orange and blue Champaign with our first non-Helms related National Championship, Bruce walks off into the sunset and we start the cycle anew.

Kevin Durant, Wesley Mathews, Dominque Wilkins, Rudy Gay have come back from an Achilles and have not or did not decline. This is not an injury that you are unable to recover from.
Link to an article about impact of achilles tendon rupture on professional basketball players.

CONCLUSION:
Achilles tendon rupture can be a career-ending injury for professional basketball players. They are expected to miss 10 months for rehabilitation and reach their post-injury peak performance level at the 2nd season back. The post-injury peak performance is significantly worse than the pre-injury level, but is similar to matched non-injured players.

He’s got a higher ceiling than anyone else we are gonna land right now. He doesn’t require a lot of shots. And honestly… for the storylines. If we are gonna be mid at least be interesting.
You wanna bring back a guy who was essentially shown the door at not one…but 2 D1 programs? Okay?

Our coach who, who has a rep as an intense, hard-nosed task master…would have to completely compromise his principles…AGAIN…after the Matthew Mayer Experience….AND twice with Curbelo. (Whatever went down in that locker room wasn’t good.) How much credibility would Brad have at that point? I mean…ANY?…if the everyday guy mantra actually means anything…how could you conceivably have that?

The dude got cut by Rick Pitino? High Morals-Rick Pitino. I kinda doubt it was a talent problem. Even if he was bringing in a bunch of 5 stars. Curbelo was more than good enough to be a backup for them. So what does that tell you?

It’s a damn shame with the concussion and all of that…but enough is enough. Let it die.

Two all conference players of which one is a potential All American come back and there's negativity? Really? We didn't get EVERY player we wanted and that's an issue? Illinois is so far ahead of Baylor(who won the whole darn thing a couple of years ago) that it's a shock that he chose them over us? I'm with you on this. I guess that, to some, the talent coming back doesn't trump a MAC PG who hasn't proved one thing on a national stage. Not one. If he was the be all end all....he would have stayed in the draft.

How many minutes are we estimating Jeremiah Williams averages a game?

I dont really want a coach that settles for a lesser option rather than going after their guy. If we signed some mediocre dude early in the portal season this board would be whining about how we did that instead of going after RayJ. I say again can we just wait for the damn season to actually be close before we decide to give up on it. We struck out trying to swing for the fences but if the rumors that were not done are true then we can still get a base hit. With Shannon and Hawkins that should be good enough to make a very good team.

Ok, given how well the 15 years prior to Brad getting here went....who do you suggest would win that one more game in the tournament, so that is winning multiple Big Ten Championships, having multiple NCAA Tournament appearances won't be continually overlooked?

You put it right....we were in a decade and a half long gutter and you're ready to toss the guy who COMPLETELY changed not only the culture internally, but the view of us on the national stage? We have top 15 recruiting classes year in and year out. We have the best prep player in the state coming in next year.....yet, not good enough.

The short memories here, by some, blow me away.
Short memories? He is the 7th(?) highest paid coach in college basketball and is going on his 7th year as our head coach and hasn't made the second weekend a single time. We can get the top recruiting class every single year but if we are not seeing results in March none of that matters. He absolutely changed our culture, put us back on the map nationally and has done great things for our program, but if we are losing every single year in the R64 or R32 it does not mean much.

Did you know the name RayJ Dennis before mid April, 2023? I bet that 95% of the people who are ready to toss themselves off of a bridge because he didn't commit here...hadn't heard one thing about him. Yet, you can guarantee me....three months before they even go on their international trip that he's the missing piece?

This thread is maddening sometimes.

If our insiders say that JWill is not the PG expected to start, then I will patiently wait the next BOOM!

If they are saying TA has another in the works......I believe them and I will anxiously wait to hear who it is.

Have they been right 100% of the time? Pretty darn close IMO.

Y'all need to loosen up a bit.

I am sure he is well aware of the pressure on him to win in March.

Can Williams be a walk-on, or has a scholarship been committed to him?

Can a grad transfer be a walk-on?

I know walk-ons can get NIL money, so my questions are only 99% crazy.
Williams ain’t no walk-on 😂 the kid needs more respect on here. Is he a world beater? No. But he comes with little baggage/drama and will work his tail off. Doesn’t mind to play second fiddle and push the ball around the court to scorers.

Reeves is a great shooter and can definitely score, but averaged 1 assist a game playing 28 mins last season. If he’s the other addition we’re relying on a mix of a complete non-shooting threat coming off an Achilles tear who’s gonna need a waiver to even be eligible, a guy who was good in the WAC but the big tens a huge leap from that (sounds like he could even be pushed out anyways), or a sophomore forward to play the point?? Head scratching considering we just witnessed how a lack of reliable point guard play can undermine a talented roster
Sencire Harris?

It doesn't mean much?? I've got no response to that. We've gotten to the point that winning conference championships doesn't mean much. Winning one more game in the tournament would change your view of him?

Wow, took me forever to catch up on the Recruiting Thread this morning.

Disappointed in RayJ's decision... I would be interested to know how many viewers closed the YouTube window on Goodman's podcast the second that RayJ uttered "Baylor," lol. I know I was in that camp, along with shouting a profanity. My guess is he figures he can get more shots and put up bigger numbers at Baylor, plus Scott Drew has put more players in the NBA than Underwood.

I actually like the Jeremiah Williams add. 6'4, 4.3 APG, 2.2 TO per game, several years left of eligibility. If he works out, great. Still does not even seem like a Plan D for next year unless a waiver goes through.

And I don't know why multiple posters are jumping to conclusions and whining that someone is getting "Creaned" if we have a guard leave. Could see Moretti or DGL reasonably concluding they'll get zero PT next year and decide to leave... does not mean they are being forced out.

Again, it isn't just missing on RayJ. Not really sure how many times I am going to have to say this. It is missing on him after dismissing several other guards who would have been great gets because Brad was so convinced we were going to get him. You're telling me, after the disaster last season was at PG, the JWill and Harmon are going to lead us to a second weekend?

At some point we have to question if brad is too stubborn for his own good. How can he have watched that team last year and ended up in the same exact spot? He’s not putting his players in the best position to succeed. His players aren’t going to the NBA. He’s not winning in march. At some point… change it up man.
My guess is Brad's been around basketball enough to know that looking at this current roster's and last year's roster and saying "they're in the same exact spot" is absurd.
