Surprised we weren't literally the 1st team reaching out. Does the staff think we have good/better options at PG?
Only if we don't get him. Then Harmon's a point guard and Williams is healthy. Until then we desperately need a PG.

The name on the degree seems to matter less and less tbh.
Unless you’re talking an Ivy League Law degree or an MIT engineering degree.
A comms degree from ND or Duke is hardly different from IL

“Which school best sets me up for life after basketball?” will play a large role here.
Any idea what he's looking for? Coaching opportunities? Alumni connections/non-athletics-related profession? Straight $$? Other?

There is some significant buzz that I have heard regarding Illinois. ND is a major player as well...but we are right there

Don't you worry, if he comes here there will still be things you can find to complain about.
Is it better or worse than most of my complaints are about ridiculous comments our fans make rather than about our basketball program?

On Torvik, adding Mulcahy and removing Harmon drops us from 36 to 40th in the country.
Even if you don't remove Harmon, adding only Mulcahy also drops us to 40th.
Not sure what to take from this
What you should take is that positional balance is hard to bake into a statistical model. It's a dramatically better team with a shooter/facilitator true PG.

Still, Paul Mulcahy should not play at Illinois. That's not what college sports is about. Same as Dickinson or Boo Buie. This is bad for the league.

So, it seems...and I could be very wrong, but...

1. There seems to be legit concern that Jeremiah Williams might not be healthy to start the season...and that is after getting a waiver to actually play with us.

2. Harmon's status seems...uneasy. I would say I hope he stays, I think he could have great value as a scorer and bring alot of energy.

3. We clearly are still looking for upgrades, meaning they know they need to improve the back court.

4. Seems that we could have a legit shot at Mulcahy...I would be 100% on board. That guy turns you into an outstanding defensive unit.

If we fail to get a good upgrade a PG. You're looking at a potentially hurt Jeremiah Williams, a Niccola Moretti who is not ready by every account...and a true Freshman is DGL.

You can put me down as a DGL fan. I get all the caveats. I think he steps in as one of your most athletic players with the highest ceiling. However, there is NO way they hand him the keys...I just hope they legit coach him, figure out what he is and give him a solid chance.

Dump the number because it's flawed. Our PG situation was not good last year. Epps played matador defense and his decision making, especially late in games, was atrocious. To be fair, he was a freshman.

PM is a true PG, a vet, has size and he fits BU's mold.

Now, whether he comes here or not.... that's up for debate. Probably 50/50....at best.

Even picking up mulcahy we are worse off there than with Epps.
This would only be true if we measure our point guard solely on his ability to score off the dribble, and put zero value on passing, defense, rebounding, knowledge of the offense, coachability, team chemistry, experience, or field goal percentage.

Other than that, good post.

Epps was promising early. Until he wasn't. I still marvel at the chutzpah of a true-frosh guard assigned to PG refusing to run the plays the coach calls. SMH. I recall the Maryland game Dec 2nd when BU gave him the deciding shot (missed) from three in front of his family. From that vote of confidence to the sideline ugliness in Bloomington in Feb.

Conflict (and the wear and tear of a long season) clarifies.
