Looked like his velo was up today too.Flaherty relieved after 6 full innings: 4 hits, one run, 92 pitches, 8 strikeouts, 2 walks. Baltimore leading, 3-1.
C.B. Bucknor is without a doubt the worst umpire in MLB history and with Angel Hernandez still an ump , that say's how bad
Bucknor is...........................
Representing the tying run, there was no reason for Motter to bat in the 9th with 2 out.
Looking for a higher draft position?Representing the tying run, there was no reason for Motter to bat in the 9th with 2 out.
Also how is it possible to strike out 11 times and get no walks at all?
Fermin wouldn't be playing 2B and Motter would already be on waivers if the Cardinals were trying for this season. Not sure why Motter was on this team the whole year but hoping he goes on waivers again when they decide to bring Winn up later on.Representing the tying run, there was no reason for Motter to bat in the 9th with 2 out.
The club needs to come out and say this. Fans buy tickets to see the Cardinals win. I am sure the DeWitts have not cut prices on tickets. I know this is common practice in the NBA. I am probably too old school for this type of manager. At this point in the season, if Oli gave Arenado the night off, Oli likely wouldn't have brought him in unless it was an emergency. If they were still legitimately in a pennant race, then there's an argument to be made to have him pinch-hit there.
part of the crowded infield /outfield is trying to wedge a square player into a round position. i.e. too many DH's/Third basemen playing positions. No AA pitcher is ready for the bigs....ever. Maybe in Bull Durham or Major League lol
Going off your other comment. It will be interesting to see what happens with Contreras over the next season or two. He is a liability in the field with above average bat. Donovan can't throw so he is stuck at DH if in the lineup for the foreseeable future this season.
Cardinals definitely have some moves to make this offseason with logjam at multiple positions. Crowded infield/outfield and someone is going bye bye if not now than after the season is over. Nootbaar/Walker are staying.....TON, Carlson or Burleson will get moved sometime. We have way too many pitching holes to keep average/above average talent around sitting on the pine.
Yep. Problem is Cardinals are crowded at a ton of positions. Also have guys like Gorman, Walker, Contreras, etc who can hit but defensively aren't going to shine as much. Throw in if we do bring up say Winn next year full time, can he stick defensively at SS? Edman slides back/stays at SS if not and Winn plays 2B. Quarter of Winn's defense in minors this season has been at 2B. I have nothing against Contreras but it would be easier if the Cardinals admitted to mistake of signing him and trade him this offseason. It frees up the DH spot for Gorman/and others and will have more D behind the plate.part of the crowded infield /outfield is trying to wedge a square player into a round position. i.e. too many DH's/Third basemen playing positions.
two of O'neil, Carlson and Burleson need to go for pitching. This allows us to play natural positions. Edman at second when Winn is ready, Noot,
Carlson, Walker (when he's not DH'ing, which should ne NOW) in the outfield.
This off-season will be interesting. Should we want any of the pitchers back we got rid of and Re-sign them, it would cost us a pick if their current teams offer them a QO. That was my understanding. We are going to have a high pick and a high second and Flores is pretty good at identifying talent. I say we do not go back after any of these pitchers we cleared if a QO is offered to them. Here is the thing, we then would have to spend on some pitching. We could try and go the Rangers route this year and sign some high risk and high upside to one year deals as we wait for the farm to get here, or do we go after some names and sign them longer term?part of the crowded infield /outfield is trying to wedge a square player into a round position. i.e. too many DH's/Third basemen playing positions.

there is still no excuse. you have to pinch hit in that situation. even if its oneil, who homered the night before. At this point in the season, if Oli gave Arenado the night off, Oli likely wouldn't have brought him in unless it was an emergency. i agree to 90% of this. i really don't understand Contreras defensive regression. He was average or better for a world series champion just a few years ago.Yep. If Winn has staying power next season that would be great. If he has staying power at SS that much better. Keep guys like Edman/Donovan and move some of that surplus quantity in the OF.
