Why pull Zach Thompson after 4 innings with 2 hits, 1 ER and 8 strikeouts? I know it was a planned bullpen game, but sometimes you need to go with the flow. Give the kid a chance to show how far he can take a quality start.

First, we have people in this thread complaining that Arenado should have pinch hit Thursday night in a game that was a scheduled day off for him (He was 4 for his last 31 prior to that game so he clearly needed a break). Now, we have people complaining about a pitcher being pulled too early in what was a scheduled bullpen game to begin with. I sure with this fanbase could make up their minds on things.

If we, as a collective "fanbase" all had the same opinions, I'm pretty sure we would be the only such fanbase. I just believe in playing to win and adjusting on the fly. The concept of a "bullpen game" escapes me. If a young pitcher is pitching a gem of a game in a bullpen game, I feel like you take that opportunity to let him show what he's got; see how far he can take it. We're in the midst of a lost season, but it's also a great opportunity to take some risks and see what we have moving forward.

100%

It is fine to be critical or have a different opinion.....we are all GMs :ROFLMAO:

"Bullpen game" happens a ton these days and random teams implement it more than others. There is also a little background to Thompson being pulled after a good performance. He pitched 3 days prior in one inning of work and threw 18 pitches in addition to his 60 pitch performance. Majority of his max pitch counts this season are in the 70s-80s in the minors and it carries over with his work load. If they decide to keep him in the rotation and give him 4-5 days off for example than I think they should increase his pitch count in future starts(depending upon performance).

Different people have different opinions. As you obviously can attest to.

As far as PH for Motter, it didn't have to be Arenado. TON was available too. Do you have any idea how many players pinch hit on their day off? League wide I am sure it is hundreds every year.

If Arenado was asked to PH, it would not have destroyed his "day off chi". I think attempting to tie the game use TON, In a game winning situation you want Arenado.

As far as pulling Thompson, it was a shame he was looking good. However I did not advocate for him staying in the game. Nevertheless, switching pitchers had nothing to do with the outcome.

So, if you tie it and don't win it in the bottom of the 9th, then you burn two players as you're not going to have TON play 3rd in the 10th.

Don't get hung up on all of it. Players make an out 65-70% of the time. But that's better than 80% of the time. St Louis is a last place team. Odds are not very good that they would have won the game. All I and others asked was that they put one of the players out there who has a better chance of succeeding. Not the player that had the penultimate chance to succeed. (He would have been followed by Fermin who had the worst chance. Who knows what might have happened.) Had TON reached base, perhaps they would have brought Gorman up to hit for Fermin. He can play 3rd as well. Then Nomar would have gotten his precious rest. If you would have asked him I am sure he would have wanted to play. The Cards would have still lost but they would have used two players that have a better chance of succeeding than Motter and Fermin.

Bernie Miklacz had a stat last week. So this is out of date. Since July 23 Motter had the same number of at bats as Carlson. And more at bats than Gorman and Contreras. There was 1 other player. However, his name escapes me right now.

I know what the Cardinals are doing but since he is up Motter was the fill in guy for moves/injuries. Donovan got shut down end of July, Edman came back from injury in the last week and DeJong got traded. Not a Motter fan but know the drill until the next step.....

" I was shocked that TO was scratched from the lineup. He’s been so durable…for the past 10 days. "

LOL.........................................I really really did ..................

Left knee tightness and day-to-day

Cardinals seriously need to package TON in a trade package this offseason. Injury bug and relying him to stay healthy and play meaningful games is not worth his potential

It's getting ridiculous at this point. They need to trade him for anything they can get at this point.
