Cards win when they hit HRs and turn DPs. I wish they were more diversified but if they do that it is a formula to win games.

All about perception

Pitcher A made over $5 million this season and went 41-31 with 3.58 ERA in his time with the Cardinals

Pitcher B has made around $5 million in his career and has gone 34-17 with ERA just above 4 with the Cardinals

Pitcher A is Jack Flaherty, Pitcher B is Dakota Hudson

With the amount of payroll shed with all the trades and also with Waino retiring , there should be ample resources available to sign at least 1 , if not 2 , top of the rotation starting pitchers this off season...........but , as we know , that has no bearing on what the FO will do .........I would hope that the FO is as upset as Cardinal Nation is with the terrible season and does what they have been saying about returning to a competing level in the 2024 season.......

I like the sound of 12 WS Championships .....How about next year we stock the roster with players who can lead us there......??

Be shocked if we don't trade off a player this off-season with many pre-arb and arbitration years left in a deal for pitching. Not a ton of top end rotation guys on the market in free agency

Flaherty one-hitting the Blue Jays through five innings today - with seven strikeouts. One BB.

Flaherty relieved after 6 full innings: 4 hits, one run, 92 pitches, 8 strikeouts, 2 walks. Baltimore leading, 3-1.

C.B. Bucknor is without a doubt the worst umpire in MLB history and with Angel Hernandez still an ump , that say's how bad
Bucknor is...........................

Representing the tying run, there was no reason for Motter to bat in the 9th with 2 out.
Also how is it possible to strike out 11 times and get no walks at all?

At this point in the season, if Oli gave Arenado the night off, Oli likely wouldn't have brought him in unless it was an emergency. If they were still legitimately in a pennant race, then there's an argument to be made to have him pinch-hit there.

Looking for a higher draft position?

Fermin wouldn't be playing 2B and Motter would already be on waivers if the Cardinals were trying for this season. Not sure why Motter was on this team the whole year but hoping he goes on waivers again when they decide to bring Winn up later on.

The club needs to come out and say this. Fans buy tickets to see the Cardinals win. I am sure the DeWitts have not cut prices on tickets. I know this is common practice in the NBA. I am probably too old school for this type of manager.

No AA pitcher is ready for the bigs....ever. Maybe in Bull Durham or Major League lol

Going off your other comment. It will be interesting to see what happens with Contreras over the next season or two. He is a liability in the field with above average bat. Donovan can't throw so he is stuck at DH if in the lineup for the foreseeable future this season.

Cardinals definitely have some moves to make this offseason with logjam at multiple positions. Crowded infield/outfield and someone is going bye bye if not now than after the season is over. Nootbaar/Walker are staying.....TON, Carlson or Burleson will get moved sometime. We have way too many pitching holes to keep average/above average talent around sitting on the pine.
part of the crowded infield /outfield is trying to wedge a square player into a round position. i.e. too many DH's/Third basemen playing positions.
two of O'neil, Carlson and Burleson need to go for pitching. This allows us to play natural positions. Edman at second when Winn is ready, Noot,
Carlson, Walker (when he's not DH'ing, which should ne NOW) in the outfield.

ive got two beefs: (at least)

1. Why are we playing our triple A lineup once a week? People don't come to Busch or turn on the TV to see Buleson, Motter, Fermin,
Knizner. We can rest the big guns one day at a time or DH them. Let's create some excitement, promote ticket sales, and bring up
Winn!
2. Then we push that line up out there and get to a key spot in the 8th and 9th and forget we have pinch hitters on the bench to use?
Motter made the last out with the tieing run at the plate and pinch hitters available. Seems were tanking for a high first round draft
pick. Somebody needs to tell our manager "You play to win the game".

i heard the tv crew say they planned to DH Walker this August/September. he looks tired. that would be a great way to see him
concentrate on his ab's and not deal with the outfield. if we want him to play some outfield winter ball great, or train in Jupiter with
instruction.

Yep. Problem is Cardinals are crowded at a ton of positions. Also have guys like Gorman, Walker, Contreras, etc who can hit but defensively aren't going to shine as much. Throw in if we do bring up say Winn next year full time, can he stick defensively at SS? Edman slides back/stays at SS if not and Winn plays 2B. Quarter of Winn's defense in minors this season has been at 2B. I have nothing against Contreras but it would be easier if the Cardinals admitted to mistake of signing him and trade him this offseason. It frees up the DH spot for Gorman/and others and will have more D behind the plate.

If Winn has staying power next season that would be great. If he has staying power at SS that much better. Keep guys like Edman/Donovan and move some of that surplus quantity in the OF.

Wonder if the Cardinals are eying Eduardo Rodriguez from the Tigers. Turned down trade to Dodgers and doesn't want to hit West Coast for family reasons. Tigers tried to trade him and he can opt out after this season. If doesn't opt out would still have reasonable 3 years left on deal and quality lefty.

This off-season will be interesting. Should we want any of the pitchers back we got rid of and Re-sign them, it would cost us a pick if their current teams offer them a QO. That was my understanding. We are going to have a high pick and a high second and Flores is pretty good at identifying talent. I say we do not go back after any of these pitchers we cleared if a QO is offered to them. Here is the thing, we then would have to spend on some pitching. We could try and go the Rangers route this year and sign some high risk and high upside to one year deals as we wait for the farm to get here, or do we go after some names and sign them longer term?

No question the outfield needs to be cleaned up. I hate to give up on TON, because if the pop, speed, and defense, but the dude is just injured all the time.

I firmly believe Edman needs to be at second, he isn’t a long term SS that we hope Winn is. Larger than our outfield problem is our DH problem. Gorman, Walker, and Contreras. I think we can get by with Contreras catching 4-5 times a week. Gorman probably should just DH. Retrospect, JW probably should’ve just stayed in AAA this year. I would get him as many reps at first as humanly possible.

there is still no excuse. you have to pinch hit in that situation. even if its oneil, who homered the night before.

i agree to 90% of this. i really don't understand Contreras defensive regression. He was average or better for a world series champion just a few years ago.
He'll never be Yadi, but he should be this bad. It seems he should be able to be coached up. I know, make Yadi the manager.

I also think Gorman should be traded. no position to play once Winn arrives, has a bad back, Walker and a rotation of Nado and Goldy can DH.
I know it sounds bad for a potential 40 hr guy but it brings a top of the rotation guy in exchange, maybe plus a bullpen arm.

alright, let me have it!
