On offense: we have good enough skill position players to win. I'm not talking about NC level, but good enough to field a bowl level team. OL play has been atrocious, and as bad as they have been the 2's must be truly horrible if they aren't pushing some starters out. Don't know how to fix that in 7 remaining games. Quick developing plays are the easy answer but opposing D's know that too. Going to need 3-4 new starters for 2024. Time to hit the portal at season's end.

On defense: Last year our DB's could stick on receivers long enough for the pass rush to be effective. Not this year. More 4 and 5 man pass rush, more blitzing may have to be dialed up, we can't just sit back and wait to be picked apart. 3 man rush is not working and the Law Firm is completely neutralized when it's used.
ALL VALID POINTS. AND FURTHER......

In my opinion ---- teams that are 2-3, winless in conference play, giving up 30 points a game, and that have been outscored by 45 points & blown out of all three of their Power 5 games have no business: (1) taunting opposing players, and/or (2) touting their alleged stellar players from a previous year.

The Illini offense should a lot time in a formation like this and running this particular play a lot would be nice too.

The way we're blocking now, the DE and NT would blow up our blockers and hit the RB two yards deep in the backfield.

My cat (Maddy) ponders the mysteries of human sanity:

“Every week he watches this group of uniformed humans toss a ball to each other and every week he becomes agitated, angry and ultimately depressed. Is it because they never toss the ball to him?”

Maybe Maddy hates copycats and laziness, yet every week you force him to look at ILLINOIS and he rebukes "NYG ripoff" 😸

...Nebraska is certainly no Georgia, but this feels like easy money.

Nebraska has a State Song:

“Beautiful Nebraska, peaceful prairieland,
laced with many rivers, and the hills of sand,
dark green valleys cradled in the earth,
rain and sunshine bring abundant birth.

Beautiful Nebraska, as you look around,
you will find a rainbow reaching to the ground.
all these wonders by the Master's hand,
Beautiful Nebraskaland.”
(State Song of Nebraska by Jim Fras and Guy G. Miller)

Perhaps one might imagine this song differently this week in light of the struggles of the Big Red these days?...

“Beautiful Nebraska – Husk-er-Land,
Football Dreams now ground to sand,
Dark Red Skies dot Lincoln Land,
What has happened to our Brand?

Beautiful Nebraska – look around,
Our great fans have gone unwound
All that left are tears to cry
Once we lose to the Illini”

Beat Nebraska, or the Illini garden flag get's replaced with the Stars flag. Because hockey season. Until basketball season.

Bridge the gap you filthy animals.

We had a homemade Illini cheerleader outfit for our goose statue that got replaced with a Halloween costume after the game 🙄

The Illini vs. the Huskers...

The ‘Good’: SOMEone is going to get a win!

The Bad: Both programs are not even close to where they want to be.

Illini and Husker fan bases now share a common misery. But they took different paths on getting there.

We all know the great tradition and National Championship legacy of the Big Red. All that power and standing and prestige has disappeared into thin air in the last 25 years. And the Husker fan is still having a really hard time dealing with that. It’s tough to fall so far off a really high perch.

And the Illini fan base. Wanting so much to taste that kind of power and standing and success that the Huskers had. And the Illini not having those things for so long.

The Huskers have tried different coaches and approaches and nothing yet has worked. The same can be said for the Illini.

I’m no fan of the old style National legacy football powers that we all know... from USC to the SEC. But one has to admire the fact that so many of those legacy powers got up on their real high perch – and have stayed there for decades, Yes, they may have had a down year or two along the way. But the So Cals and the Michigans and the Bamas and Oklahoma and the like have found a way to get up there and stay there. Sure, they get great players every season. But why? Because they get young men who desire to play there and taste sweet success because they know they’ll have it.

Some of the near-Illinois Univ’s are currently having – or recently have had – good to great success on the field... Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Michgan. So close to Champaign and yet so far...

So while we wait for the day when the Illini footballers are thought of in the same light as these other names... be kind to each other – and to Husker fans. We share more than we’d like to right now.
But Illinois had its string of national championships. It's just that you have to go back way too far...

Yep, you see what I see. Altmeyer might not even have time to hand the ball to RB.
