Thats a little unfair. Lou had the triple whammy of the whole Bruce Pearl fiasco, the LaPhonso Ellis disaster, and losing his son. In an alternative timeline Lou is coaching successfully at Illinois for years after 1990.

Don’t forget he still got several seasons of winning ball done at New Mexico after we cut him loose.
Groce also had some terrible luck - with injuries (ie Rice and Cosby in 2014-15 and Throne and Black in 2015-16, think Tate was also hurt for part of one or both of those years). and add some of his players pulling BS (Nunn, Darius Paul, Black) at the same time.
Loved Lou, not trying to badmouth him. He will always be a legend for what he did accomplish, which was getting the Illini back into the national conversation and keeping us there after a long period in the wilderness.

It seems most are worried about the PG position. My concern is more with the ability to defend against the big offensive centers. We didn’t do well with that last season and we haven’t added any size at that position. Either we expect huge improvement from Dainja or we will adjust our defensive system. Guess we will get a chance to see in the Kansas game.

I know I am a year older but I dont remember Dainja being a problem on defense guarding his man considering he was technically a freshman... Coleman was the one who could not guard other teams bigs. No one in the league was stopping TJD or Eddy.. My memory thinks Dain played lights out against a few other bigs

Yeah losing Epps is gonna sting. Oh well, at least we know how to find the talent. Keeping it is another matter...
I dont care how talented a guy is if he refuses to go back into a game after being torched by the opposing PG then sits and pouts while his team makes a comeback. I dont want him anywhere near my team. Should have been sent to the showers right then.

If he does that sh!t in public, in a televised game, imagine what it must have been like behind the scenes. Doesn't sting a bit. Good riddance.

I consider Dainja one of the elite big men in the league. He’s the least of our worries.

It’s just one screen shot my guy. I could have just saved the photo but I wanted to cite my sources.

I'm sure this is futile, but it's there any reason to expect big ten officiating to be better this year? Any relevant rule changes or points of emphasis being discussed?

Block/charge requirements. Defender now must be set at the time the slasher plants his foot to go airborne. (let the TSJ All-American campaign begin)

Just saw that and I must say, I'm pretty jazzed to finally get a little respect this year.
It seemed to me that everyone was feeling pretty meh about the Illini.
Thanks, Mr. Pom !
Who is feeling meh about us? I think the only big (and fair) question mark is how our PG position will play out. If Ty is half as good as everyone says then we should live up to #19

That’s another money play by the media to squeeze another three minutes of commercials in while they go to replay review (with the #5-ranked officials) 😉
