Purdue 83, Illinois 78 Postgame

Lots of home cooking.

That would have been a win if the refs called it even.

The F1 on Jones was an awful call ...

Someone told me that Edey had not even been called for a foul the previous 3 games ... He was called for 4 tonight ... And he should have had 5 ... That one in the lane on the Goode boxout that they called on Goode was an awful call ...

Well, the number one team in the country needed to shoot the lights out from three and get all the help they could from the refs to pull out a win against an Illinois team missing its best player. We win that game by 10 in Champaign. I would have liked to see a little more from Domask in the first half. I don't think they will drop much in any rankings after that performance though.
Probably 12

On behalf of @texillwek I submit a new word for the Loyalty Lexicon.

Frally (frah-lee) - A furious Illinois basketball comeback in a game started with a pi$$ poor effort. A fake rally.
I’ll take the Frally over a 20 pt loss any day. Still keeps us in the rankings and helps with our tournament metrics. Plus gives us confidence forward and when they are at our house.

I’m not mad being down 21 around the 12 minute mark and losing by 5. Never like to lose, but man. Effort showed up there.

Don’t like sending this but it’s a big stat that we all realized. Brad realized it a bit late but eventually did

Especially against Edey I would have loved to see Ty have the ball in his hands off the dribble. Let him cross up Edey a couple times and run him in circles, make him work and maybe get a foul on him. Giving up the ball and sitting the short corner is playing exactly into Purdue's hands.

Question for the board. I understand that Hawkins give us the best chance offensively, but should Dain had gotten a more mins? Especially in the early/middle of the 2nd half when Edey was getting going. If nothing else a bigger body to throw at Edey and I would assume he'd help much more on the boards.

Very honestly, no. I think we want CoHawk with Edey and Dain in the rest of the time. It all worked out except the part where Dain didn't get buckets. That doesn't equate to more time for him.

definitely did our best at trying to make the supporting cast beat us. issue is... they did beat us lol...

Personally ... Think we beat ourselves with how we started the game and our effort on the glass ...

Can't get out rebounded by 15 ... And I don't know the second chance point stats off the top of my head but I bet we got killed ...

Dain is making a few nifty passes when he's in there but is lost out there most of the time.
He just disrupts our team chemistry when he's in there IMO, unfortunately.

Dain was awful tonight, so no.

It's not the number of fouls called on Illinois, it's that coupled with the lack of calls on Purdue. The game should have been more like 17 for Illinois and 19 for Purdue. Taking away a couple offensive rebounds and points from Purdue and at least 5 made free-throws. Adding free throw points to Illinois. Out of bounds calls were poor too. Makes a huge difference in what turned out to be a close game.
I'm with you on this one...its not about number of calls. If each team fouled 10 times and they called it 10 to 10, then great, But what if a team fouls 25 times and one fouls 10 and its called 10-10 on fouls?

I felt slight homecooking to purdue but not egregious. Mostly it was over the back calls that seemed to not be called on them (til edey did super obvious ones).

The two bailout calls Jones got had me reacting like coleman LOL.

Another thing that irked me

Kaufman renn and jones shoot 53% and 65% from the line. THey go for 13-14. At their averages we mightve won hah

Man..

I think undercutting someone is always a flagrant. In a pickup game, that would have caused a fight. You just don't do that. And no one can tell me that he didn't know. He knew what he was doing. Edey could have been called for more fouls. Early over the back non calls. Some of those rebounds were very aggressive and could have been called too. He doesn't play clean. That's why he will foul out in the tournament and they will lose early again....unless the refs get the memo.
