Maryland 76, Illinois 67 Postgame

Brad, postgame radio:

Should have used Dre & Nicco more
Okay, but how many MORE times do you need to say it before you DO it?

Domask turnovers. Hawkins foul trouble. No energy. Hansberry hurt. LOSING the game. What else could this coaching staff have been waiting for?

This performance (probably 30 points shy of where we should have been) doesn't fall on Brad's shoulders. But it's inexcusable to refuse (neglect??) to give your players a chance, acknowlege it, and not take full responsibility for the result... which was a loss.

The NCAA final four is in AZ this year. Every time I get close to making a major purchase for tickets for the family, something happens. My father and I did go to Seattle and St. Louis to see the Illini in the Final Four. Tickets in the first 30 rows are really expensive right now. If I were to make that investment, I would want to be convinced in my mind that we had a good chance to be there... I am not there at this point. Maybe TSJ somehow comes back and we go on a run at the end of the season.

9-40 from the floor in 2H. Anyone have any idea when we've shot that badly? Just no rhythm, ball movement or penetration.

[EDITED] Props on the Board to the Terps for their physical play, and Reese and Young particularly for their performances. They outplayed the Illini. Tougher, smarter, and held fast down the stretch. Quincy missed four layups at the rim in the 2H. Disappointing all around.

Want badly to beat these guys next month.

There's an old antiquated concept called a zone defense where you put 5 guys in the paint and don't give up layups and dunks and you dare the other team to shoot 3s. that way a team that only scores 56 points a game does put 76 on you.
This is the most infuriating part of the Underwood era to me. There are at least a handful of losses that turn into wins if we had any semblance of a zone defense.

Brad is stubborn as a mule. He's making strides....but this was a huge swing and miss today. This game literally begged anyone with a lick of BB sense to throw those guys in for a spark....and a rest for the others.

Bud DGL has played sparingly all season long and there’s a reason for that. Putting him in today would’ve been a train wreck. As far as Moretti, the kid has never played in a big ten game before. They’ve got to ease him in. Today wasn’t a day to do that

You can't miss that many open layups and shots in the second half and expect to win. And that is just offensively. Defensively, that was the worst Underwood led team defensively I have seen since last year. Have to address that going forward
hot take, I don't think we've been as good as advertised defensively all season. We've had moments, but I've had some concerns defensively all season. This game was exceptionally bad.

Lol....as opposed to what it was....a dumpster fire? 5-6 minutes from either of those guys would not have hurt today's game at all.

It easily could and probably would have.

Defense was poor, poor rebounding effort allowing Maryland to get 2nd and 3rd chance opportunities, inability to adjust to Maryland constantly going down to Reese in the lane, and way too many missed shots in the 2nd half. You can't lose this game at home. On the road is understandable but not at home. I think it was a clear off shooting day.

What's up with the beef between Tim Anderson and Julian Reese? Did Reese talk a bunch to the bench during the game or does this go back to recruiting? Reese could've honestly just moved on without the theatrics but I do have to say that it was quite immature from Anderson to not shake his hand

Was at the game. The crowd was complete crap in the first half, including Krush. I was in Krush 13-15 years ago and it’s just not close to once it once was, I thought we had them on the ropes and the crowd could have helped with somewhat of a knockout in the first half.
Doesn’t help that have cut the Krush seats in half since you were there

I wonder if the lack of judge’s ruling took the wind out of their sails.

Perhaps they were at the very least expecting a decision and this looming over their heads has sucked the energy off from this team.

Everyone seemed off and this seems like the only logical explanation besides the fact that Maryland just played with desperation and we had zero energy
This the best one yet, keep em coming
