Honestly appreciate the response and dialogue, and I’d love to hear either of your responses to my last quote of Indy.As much as I would love it to be Illinois….it would still be Ole Miss with the higher ceiling

Yes and no. Bret hasn’t had his best week ever as HC here with some stuff behind the scenesIt’s kinda a good thing that we’re in a position that other programs want to poach our coaches, right?

Things that are going to come out or just McDonald leaving, missing on recruits, and taking a hot second to get that Buh replacement.Yes and no. Bret hasn’t had his best week ever as HC here with some stuff behind the scenes

Nothing that will ever come out. He just mishandled some thingsThings that are going to come out or just McDonald leaving, missing on recruits, and taking a hot second to get that Buh replacement.
I guess as long as it isn't going to come out and doesn't have anything to do with mental or physical health of anyone, a gaf in handling something is something we knew we'd kind of have to live with. He earned the Bert moniker for similar reasons and still one of if not the most competent Illinois Football coach I have lived through.Nothing that will ever come out. He just mishandled some things

Not the first time I have been accused of that.I think you’re overthinking it
Where does that talent in state here go? Down south. In the last 20 years Ole Miss has finished over .500 14 times in the hardest conference in college football…..we’ve done it 4 times….and that’s being in the west since 2014….Ole Miss sells out every game and the tailgating scene there is second to non. They have support there that I’m not sure were could ever get here for football. No need for mocking, I’d love to hear your opinion, and I’d respect it. But there’s more instate talent here, and they split it with MSST. They have a meh history, and so do we. They play on possibly the hardest division in football, and we play in … TBD but NOT harder than the SEC West. Whatever NIL money is there for a consistently top 15 Ole Miss program is easily matched by a top 15 Illini program… We have more alumni, richer alumni and significantly more non-alumni instate fans like me.
The only argument, IMO, that Ole Miss is a clearly better job is recent record … and I’m sorry, but that’s the logic that says Baylor is a better job than UCLA. Again, I’ll defer to actual insider information … but comparing Illinois today to Ole Miss today isn’t an argument by itself … Alabama basketball is NOT a better job than UCLA. And the pieces are there at Illinois at least as much as at Ole Miss, if you ask me.

How many other assistants will be going elsewhere?
But where is the vision here? Nick Saban keeps IL talent home better than he keeps MS talent home, I’d bet. And even if he doesn’t, the class from IL talent is better. Who gives a crap about past history? Facilities, alumni base, recruiting base, etc. are better at Illinois … just need a recruiter who can get high school kids to see that. Otherwise Minnesota would still be a national power based off of their prestige from the 1950s.Where does that talent in state here go? Down south. As of today, I'd set it firmly at 1.5 ...
I went to a track meet there in 2008. The setup was awesome. When a race finished they immediately posted the results with names and times on a scoreboard. Even the sprints were up there within a minute of the finish. Might be more common than what I think but I had never seen that before.
All that needs to be said is Ole Miss is a football school in the football crazy south, in the football craziest conference in America. Illinois is a basketball school. Basketball may not be every fans favorite, but if there is a basketball game and a football game on at the same time, 75% of Illini fans are tuning into that basketball game; 95% of Ole Miss fans are tuning into the football game.Where does that talent in state here go? Learning from Lane Kiffin ain't a bad thing either.I’ll defer to you as an insider, but I’m not convinced a 10-year ceiling at Ole Miss is higher than at Illinois. Ole Miss is unquestionably in a better position as a program right now.
(I also didn’t know about the difference in titles, so my bad there … was purely discussing Illinois vs. Ole Miss as destinations.)
