Whoa whoa whoa whoa...whoa. I vividly remember punching a hole in a closet door watching the last of Weberball. I don't know if it was this bastard child of a game or not...but omg.

That was a bad one for sure. Or when we barely got out of the thirties to beat MSU by 1.

But for me, Worst overall game I can remember (win or lose), was the loss at Neb when Meyers cried on the bench. That was the worst I’ve watched.

We were at the game and this is a terrible take. The crowd got on their feet MULTIPLE times when we needed a defensive stop and at least twice, the defense let up an "and 1".

When the crowds gets into it, the D has to do their part and let's be honest, after a great stretch at the end of the first half....this was ugly.
I was there too. It wasn’t until about a minute to go did they get up.

The Illini need to shore up their paint defense. Against Reese, Nicholsen and Renuan the the Illini looked bad. Hawkins has his problems vs bigger athletic centers. Dainga may help in the center 5 spot but Hawkins and Dainga on the floor at the same time is rare.

We should have beaten Indiana by att least 20. We missed far too many wide open threes, all by proven plus shooters from distance. We also need to clean up the defense, especially defense in the paint. We probably need to double more; teams are getting to the rim far too easily.
We definitely need to improve our outside shooting. Two things I noticed, several guys seemed reluctant to shoot when they were first open, often choosing to pass or dribble instead. I don't understand their hesitancy. Secondly, when we did shoot the three, they were often rushed or contested. If you watch that 04-05 video you see the ball movement that resulted in Dee being wide open. I would like to see our guys quicker to pull the trigger when open and better about getting the ball around and into the open man. I saw Godde staning alone on the baseline several times yesterday with no effort to get the ball into his hands.

Rewatching the game this morning, a few observations. Outside of passing up some shots, I'm not sure what QG did to get planted on the bench. He rebounded, played decent defense.

I thought Ty played well in his minutes. Surprisingly, the offense seems less stagnant with him on the floor. To that end, when he is out, and really anytime TSJ and Hawkins are out there together, the offense really lacks movement. Many times, we have one guy dribbling and four guys watching while they stand around the 3-point line. No cutting, no off ball screening, really no movement at all. Maybe one weak screen on the guy guarding the person with the ball. That's a regression to where we were at much earlier in the season. We need to figure that out pretty quickly.

Hawkins really didn't play very well. And he really needs to stop worrying about calls and just keep playing. It's not even that he's not right about the refs missing calls, but focusing on that distracts him and isn't going to change the calls that are wrong. I saw at least twice where he was complaining and didn't get back on defense giving IU a numbers advantage/easy scores.

Really thankful Ware was out. Easily could have dropped that one if he played.

Krush has been a little better the last two home games. For the most part, they provided a constant hum. Not raucous and intimidating like you'd hope. More like the ambient noise of a busy freeway that you can tune out after a while.

The rest of the stadium on the other hand, was fairly dead except during a few key moments. Sure, we make a basket, they clap. Get a rebound, they clap. But not a lot in between. Even I, who am quick to criticize the crowd, wasn't all that loud. You just feel lame when you're the only person in your section screaming like a banshee.

I think a good ole fashion "defense (clap clap)" chant could help. But the brevity of possessions today make those types of organized chants difficult to execute.

Well, I can back you up with your hypothesis. I wholeheartedly agree with this, at least this is so in my case. I just can't seem to just sit and enjoy a game in real-time anymore. In this game, I expected a 20-point win. I expected the Illini to play like they did against the home win against NW. Indiana is a worse team than NW and the Illini were without TSJ so it makes sense that we blow out Indiana? But nope. A game like the Maryland game will put me in a funk for a week thinking how can this team win in March when they can't even beat a poor MD team? I keep hearkening back to the good old days (the '05 team) when they beat everyone (almost). I need help. Does anyone know a good (cheap) psychiatrist who specializes in curing stupidity?
Yeah, but they're all booked up through the year 2045 . . .

I think the announcers highlighted that top ranked teams were 4-7 last week, or something along those lines. Every team is going to have multiple losses this season.

God bless The Portal. Even-ing talent out nicely and taking away the same boring top-heavy Super teams. More teams get a real legit chance now. Top recruits now more evenly being divided among success-hungry programs in the future.

Certain nameplates will continue to benefit from their shiny names from the past. But those days are coming to an end.

Legacy Nameplate Reputations will sputter and weaken in our new day of college ball talent player-self-assertion. Just create a positive ball culture for your organization and a family-feeling among the talent and you'll always have a prime seat at the BigTable.

And shiny things to be added for your trophy case. And a happy fan base.

"Suggested"?
Yes, it's a mere suggestion. Plus/minus and its ilk are consolidated, niche statistics. They cannot describe performance in a meaningful way, especially for one player in one game. It is a quantitative stat, sure. But it's not "advanced". At best, it can help build other stats that inform on player and opponent combinations.

In this specific case, it's in the the name. The "player impact chart" is a chart of the Player Impact Estimate.

edit: There are different flavors, but I think that Informatics is showing a basic, "real" type, and not an advanced stat (Player Impact Plus/Minus instead of PIE.)

edit again: Nevermind, I followed the link to see the numbers. It is a flavor of PIE.

Three or four times Hummel suggested someone who is going to have to help Hawkins with a double teams in situations like this.

Thoughts?
Coach BU apparently does not like double teams on big guys ...but Hawkins and Dainga my have to pair up and double up on bigger opposing centers.
