With that loss, we likely blew our shot at a Big Ten title and now need to win out for a shot to get off the 4/5 seed line. :(
Even if we won today, we would've still needed that, IMO, but LvilleILL knows a heckuva lot more about that than me, so I'll retract this and go with his take.

This team can win out as long as Coleman gets his head out of his you know where.

Last thing I will say about the Penn State loss. If nothing wakes them up defensively after this game, then the defense will not improve at all. There should be way better effort in this game. The players looked so pissed off the game, so I am holding out hope for what is to come. Show some damn, pride, it has gotten pathetic. This is the best offensive team we have had since 2005, we cannot waste it

This is an overreaction. the defense is in shambles but there is still enough there to go on a deep run. There needs to be major adjustments though
I feel like the adjustments need to be made between the ears. It's effort and focus. Tough to change that mentality. You may do it for one game, but unfortunately, for a team with senior leadership....the constant, in this case painful, reminder is necessary.

Your 4-year program guy still loses his composure on a frequent basis and it absolutely killed you today.

Sorry but the seasons over …. Hope Dan doesn’t mute my account like last year but how great our offense is, our defense is even worse. We let our guards get screened & our bigs back peddle to the lane lol. What defense so we play? Why don’t we hedge anything? Like anything? It’s a straight line drive to the basket. I think I counted 6-7 blown defensive assignments by Harmon. DGL needs to play over him. We’re literally Iowa & Brad is doing his best Fran impression for his tenure here. He’s lost us 3 games at least…. See y’all next year!

I don’t really think the B10 tournament, or any conference tournament matters except to the teams on the very end of the bubble ending the season neck and neck.
This is like saying games in the last week of the regular season don’t matter. The Committee absolutely considers results at least through Friday. The only game they 100% don’t consider is the final. Whether they weigh Saturday semifinal results is anyone’s guess.

They do. The results Friday and Saturday do matter. If we get to the final, that will likely bump us up a seed line

Perkins goes for 30+ and we lose another tough game. I just dont see how we can stop Iowa. They may not stop us but we will stop ourselves with turnovers.

Agreed. I think mental toughness is definitely a big issue and that comes from your leaders. Coleman is a great player and he is a leader on this team. He needs to quit complaining about the calls he doesn't get, get back on D. There was a one second half moment where he was complaining to the ref after his turnover and we were down one defender. It is not all on him. Domask had some careless turnovers during crucial times. Not just this game. Kern and PSU players outmatched us mentality wise I felt. Hawkins, TSJ and the others better figure this out or it'll be another disappointing March.

The amount of self-inflicted dumb turnovers during the last stretch from a senior laden team is concerning.

After tonight it seems like this team is right back to where they were last year just with a better offense.

You are right. I'm sure a lot of the times he is getting fouled but if he doesn't get a call he has to get right back in the play. Never stop till you hear a whistle.

More precisely, I don’t think the tournament games matter more than any other game during the season, and for anyone except for a few select teams the tournament games aren’t significant enough to influence a seasons worth of games.

For example, using the committee’s first seeding and current B10 standings and assuming Illini play highest possible seed each round while making the final game.

Illinois adds wins against Iowa (63, Quad 2) and Wisconsin (21, Quad 1).

Their Quad 1 record improves to 5-5 and Quad 2 5-2.

Duke is currently the lowest 3 seed with Quad 1 record of 6-2, and Quad 2 of 2-2.

Does Illini team sheet change meaningfully in that scenario? Is 4-5 Q1 vs 5-5 Q1 really make a difference after 30 games to bump Illini up from a 4 seed to a 3 seed?

we have been waiting for these major adjustments (strategy) to be implemented between games and minor adjustments in game (tactics)
related to def shambles is so many careless TOs and pick-2s
still enough to go on a deep run is the frustrating part
3 weeks to figure it out and get it done

Needed that game. We could easily lose 3 out of the next 5 if everyone does not pull their heads out of their buttocks

Hawkins looked very very tired e.g. missed free throws, brain dead foul.

Obviously Shannon is an "elite" player, but can not spend the second half spreading out standing around and watching him drive and shoot free throws.

Layup, after layup, after layup, after layup, if Underwood can not solve that problem on the defensive end, this team will not be going anywhere in March.

Take away the layups, PSU looked like a bunch of "gym rats." Now I am starting to wonder about us. SMH

Major disappointment.

Nothing like a defensive get right game against Iowa. Oh boy. This will be another game where we will need to score and score a lot.
