Purdue 77, Illinois 71 Postgame

It's not hard to understand. Purdue is a better team and if the two teams play in the BTT Illinois is a good bet the result will be similar. Not the way any of us want it to be but pretty much accurate, nonetheless.
the dude your opinion GIF

Purdue is probably better than us. All the evidence points that way.

But we beat them in 2/4 halves of basketball this year. We're right there. Gotta learn how to close.

Depends. I got the 1 year deal for $20 but i had it before as part of my HOA so knew there were things I enjoy.

If you like any old nbc comedies like the office, parks and rec, 30 rock, etc they are there with some extra content

I will be watching the John wick spin on off series because I like those movies. Some other exclusive TV shows (I watched macgruber and twisted metal and it was silly and fun)

Some decent movies..I watched Oppenheimer this past Sunday as it was exclusively on there there are a few on there that are good choices.

I frankly have too many services anyway so I can only use and view so much (since Illinois basketball is priority 1) so was fine when it went away as no longer part of my HOA but was ok with forking over $20 for 1 year.
Killing it and Girls 5 Eva are enjoyable series too, although I believe the latter is moving to Netflix soon.

I plan on dropping Peacock at the end of this month and picking it up in August.

Does anyone know if there is a reason to retain Peacock for any tourney action?
Big Ten Tournament - Wednesday games are on Peacock, Thursday and Friday on BTN, Saturday and Sunday on CBS. Other than the addition of Peacock, it's been like this for years and years. NCAA not on NBC and its affiliates.

Hopefully we get another shot next Sunday
this might be controversial... But I don't, as you put SOOO much energy and effort into winning the big ten tourney that it can sometimes deter your NCAA tourney success (plus even if we win the big ten tourney, I don't think that will have an outcome on our seeding). Also, quite frankly, I don't think we can beat Purdue.

He’s quickly become the next Jordan Bohannon for me…I hate that guy.
I had respect the guy for coming up big in the game...until I saw that. I will now forever wish evil upon him and hope he shoots around 11% for the remainder of his career. There's no need for that--and I hate it. (Yes, I'm old...). As another commenter mentioned earlier--no taunting call for the nite-nite, yet Coleman gets the T for a "boom" directed at no one? C'mon Big Ten referees--GET BETTER!!

Hated the loss. Loved Painter's post game interview. Not afraid to share strategies and was forthright with praise.

Lastly, it seems we just don't shoot 3's well at home, maybe this isn't supported by the facts tho. Not being to B1G venues, are some more shooter friendly? On an extremely different level, it seemed like my shooting was better in certain gyms than others (sight lines, lights, "feel", etc). Probably no credence to this, just a passing thought.

Opposing teams seems to shoot lights out in our place

BTT match up will be Edey's 3rd game and will fatigue, we didn't get our transition game going and he was still gassed last 6 min

Remember when Edey fouled the hell out of Coleman and then stood over him staring him down and no T? Think if Hawkins did that to Edey they'd let it go? F em all.
Hawkins was fouled on the dunk attempt. It was apparent that Edey hit him on the wrist but nothing was called. After the replay, the commentators said nothing. Unbelievable. They just continued to praise Edey. My sense is that will not be the case in the tourney. Refs will call that.

OB positive said:
Another pivotal play in the second half was Hawkins dunk attempt were Edey got all wrist. Should have been a foul and a T. I've seen plays this year where the guy got all ball and still got called for a foul, just ridiculous. I believe that changed the momentum of the game.

Edey got some rim, too. Should’ve been goal tending.
Just a terrible terrible missed call all the way around

0-6 for a half is one thing, but every single 3 taken by Shannon, Domask, and Harmon were nowhere near going in the basket. Combined 0-8 for the game. I just don’t understand our shooting in our own gym. These weren’t bad looks.
Guys just looked tight from about 15:50 - 5:50. (Had maybe two field goals in that stretch?) Even then, game was distilled to a one possession lead at the 3:20 mark. If that’s not a proxy for a tournament game, I don’t know what is. We go: missed open three, bad close out for Loyer floater, bad possession with missed “layup”, failure to secure a defensive rebound + off the ball foul deep into shot clock. While watching two sophomores make exactly the type of plays that your fifth-year seniors didn’t.

Purdue has a unique situation where they don't need to send anyone for offensive rebs since they have Edey down there, which allows them to get back on defense on every single play. Not only does this completely 86 any transition/fast break opportunities, it also allows them to completely control pace and keep Edey from being ran up and down the court by the opponent.

If the pain of this loss fuels a tournament run then nobody will care about this game

That is the most positive take that one can have about this game. The pain of losing games like this provides the added motivation to avoid such pain in the future.

But the concerning thing is that the Beloved just have not exerted their will enough against the very best teams. They seem to hit their glass ceiling against that kind of 'elite' team and can't get above that. Play with these teams to a point and then fall short. This seems again to lock the Illini into looking like a 10th to 16th National ranked team overall... pretty much as they've been all season. Said another way, there look to be about 12 teams that seem to be superior and would be major matchup problems ahead.

All of us here want that magical Dance run. We need it. We crave it. And that still might happen if things could break just right and the Sun and Moon and Earth align just right for the Beloved like they will for real in the skies on April 8th. But this is also setting us up for another exit after Game Two or so. Are we ready for that, again?

Where is the additional magic gonna come from? Who can elevate their game further to get this team above their glass ceiling prison?

And who can play... DEFENSE when you need it? Still asking... (is Trent available temporarily?).

Have we already seen the best of this Illini group or can they dig deeper and find a way to make real magic yet happen?

Yeah it's such BS - that's not being good at basketball. That's having the league MTP (most tallest player) on your team.
Also, this is how the fateful 7-0 run started. 10 feet away from the ref staring straight at it:

I said this last night and thought it was a hot take at first, but this morning I went and looked back at the previous NPOY in college basketball and now think it might not be so crazy after all:

Edey is the least talented face of college basketball in the entire history of the sport.

Ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naismith_College_Player_of_the_Year

Naismith award only goes back to the 60s, but we're talking about modern ball anyway. He's going to win it twice too.

to the all hand "block" by Edey that would've given him his 4th
I try really hard not to be biased towards my teams regarding officiating. I watched this in slow motion a bunch of times, and I was about to agree with the refs on this. The initial contact is with the ball and parts of Hawkins' hand that are touching the ball, which is legal. There's some subsequent contact with parts of Hawkins' hand that are not touching the ball after Edey's hand swipes across the ball, but that's typically allowed if not severe. There was no interference or goaltending (he didn't hit the rim in a way that it caused the ball to move since the ball never even touches the rim, and he is allowed to continue touching the ball when it enters the cylinder).

But Edey fouled Hawkins with tricep-to-head contact. Was it minimal (or something they were allowing throughout the game) and probably not what the officials were focusing on? Maybe. So I'll say this was an "incorrect" call rather than "bad" or "egregious".

That said, Hawkins needed to create more space with his body in order to make any fouls more obvious and/or prevent the block entirely.
