I'm going to be honest here: the Illini should beat the hell out of Morehead State & BYU doesn't scare me at all.

LvilleILL is absolutely correct: BYU hasn't seen the likes of the Illini. This Illinois team just put 93 points on a team that is better than BYU.

Isn't Iowa State very beatable, too? I'm not saying, but saying . . . . .

Having typed all that: one damn game at a time. Destroy Morehead State. Illinois 88, Morehead St. 71.

They were in the OVC 15 years. Didn't make the NCAA Tournament until late in their time in the conference and had any sort of postseason success at that point. And Ja Morant didn't play at Jacksonville State.
Since I watched Ja Morant play in person multiple times in Murray, Kentucky, and since I was at the Ford Center in Evansville at the OVC tournament on the Friday night that Magic Johnson was there scouting Ja Morant, I am well aware that Ja Morant played for Murray State. I apologize for not including Murray State or the Ja Morant era in my comments. I assumed, wrongly, that the name of Ja Morant is always associated with Murray State and the Ohio Valley Conference, and I was trying to specify a time frame.

There is no world that exists where we’d have to play BOTH Auburn and UConn. When you’re on the bottom half of the bracket, you want the baddest teams possible on the top of the bracket, to have a better chance to knock off the No. 1. You never want to play the No 1 (unless their top player has a broken limb, or something).

Morehead State Ohio Valley Conf. 14-4 tied for 1st place with Univ. of AR - Little Rock and UT-Martin; Overall 26-8; won OVC Tournament as the 3rd seed, Little Rock was 1st seed and UT-Martin 2nd seed

Some games of note, that is, teams both Morehead and Illinois have played this year (except for one which I did a double take when I saw the name. See if you can guess which team)

No matter how the brackets are laid out the simple fact is if you want to be the BEST YOU HAVE TO BEAT THE BEST! Anyone who wants to win MUST GO 6-0

BYU beat Baylor, Iowa State and Kansas
Fair point and good for BYU. All I am saying is that Illinois should be the favorite against BYU. No one should be afraid of them. Illinois beats BYU, then it is safe to assume that Iowa State would be very beatable as well, since BYU prevailed over them.

This year, I am not impressed with either Baylor or KU. But, your point is a very valid point. Take no one for granted.

Anything can happen in the tourney and Morehead st can shoot which is a recipe for upsets but the Illini should be able to disrupt them with a huge length and athleticism advantage, control the boards, and get anything they want offensively.

If we get em….Run em off the line and I like our chances in transition
Not only that, they are two completely different teams road vs away (exception being slumping Kansas). Similar to what we saw with Nebraska. BYU is still a good team, but Illini matchup well with them, especiallyon neatral court.

But let's win Thusday first.

BYU is a better version of IA - 3 point shooters, great sets and cutting action, suspect defense. They have a big that can shoot 3. When open or in transition they can score 3's in a hurry. Our transition game can and will dominate.

It's not the same offense, but in terms of playing slow, methodical basketball and sort of thriving on keeping the opponent off balance and out of rhythm, and with a herky-jerky swiss army knife of a star player, I feel like a good comparison for Morehead State would be when Bill Carmody's Northwestern had John Shurna.

So we are the second game of the session. Hopefully it tips off 30 minutes or more later than scheduled time, after a long BYU vs Duquesne game.
