Still searching for ways Illinois could have beaten NC in 2005. Would Brian Randle have made any difference in the outcome?

I know I've got to let it go, but that loss still bothers me big time.

Thanks.
Lol why do you have to search for ways?

Even with game being reffed in a way where Sean May could not commit a foul and James Augustine fouled out in only 9 minutes the Illini only lost 5 and had the game tied at 70 with under 2.5 mins left.

After that point they missed 5 3-pointers and had a turnover. Those were good looks too. They shot 12-40 from 3 and shot nearly 40% from the year. All they had to do was knock down a couple more shots.

No offense to Dain, but we need serious rim protector whao 969.28 yescan defend the other team's big man. He's "only" 6-9.
6'9 with the super long arms he has is "long" enough against just about everyone save Edey and Clingan. His problem is more awareness than lack of length. He just doesn't process things very well on defense. Admittedly he started having fewer lapses towards the end of the season.

I sure was....but Q and Harmon could have added so much if they had continued their level of offense that they displayed during the absence of TSJr. Not sure I should expect that, but it sure was impressive. In defense of Harmon, he stepped up his work ethic on defense, which earned him much floor time, but why he never made any more threes is puzzling to me. He was so dependable from the arc...and then he could not throw it in the ocean. Someone said he was injured, but I never saw anything else on that. Q worked hard, but seemed to stop being aggressive and finishing with regularity. Not that he vanished, but seemed to back off his offensive contributions. Still, both were great guys and not detractors and I am very satisfied to have had them as part of this great team.
Not sure about Harmon. QG, from what I recall, started slowly with the injured wrist, really took off when the wrist wrap came off, and then slumped again after landing on it against Purdue.

Completely. I think Storr and Boswell/another pg would be a good start but they absolutely need to add a center(probably 2 bigs since Dain looks like he's leaving).

I agree with everything you say. I was just trying to be a little ironic and glib. Didn't work. Sorry. That Sean May nonsense made the difference as far as I was concerned. I won't play the "what-if?" game anymore. Pointless.

I love DD and what he has done for us here. But I fear he is gone. I am guessing the only guys back with meaningful PT experience are going to be Ty and Luke. We are going to be trying to replace ALOT, and teach them our system, and get them to gel. BU going to have his biggest challenge to date?

Quite likely, next year's team will not compete for a B1G title. But I sure do not know at this time because I/we need to see who BU brings in to fill out the roster and how they play together. Speculation is wasted until we get to B1G season and see who can do what....and what they can do together.

But if they have a chance to win the B1G going into the last 2 or 3 games, BU will have coached his tail off.

I have no information to back this up but I just have a feeling that players such as Nico, Dain, and Sincere could move on.

As long as BU is at the helm, we are always going to be competing for a B1G title.

B1G finishes under BU over the past 5 years:

4th
2nd
1st
5th
2nd

If I could sign up for another 5 year run like that right now, I would. Even though we didn’t win the B1G every year, you could argue we competed for the B1G title 4 out of 5 years.

In the transfer portal world, 5th place finishes are bound to happen when the pieces don’t quite fit as expected, but BU’s gonna have a whole lot more Saturday starts in the B1G tournament than Thursday/Friday.

The perk of the transfer portal world is a bad season can be more easily erased the next season because you can rebuild your whole roster in one off-season.
