As super-underwhelmed as this board/ most fans were when SIU transfer Marcus Domask committed?
That's revisionist history there. No one predicted first team all B1G for him, or newcomer of the year but I don't recall anyone who was "underwhelmed" with the transfer. I recall that people on this board were very happy that we signed a skilled, experienced first team all MVC player.

Yep. A lot of the insiders flat out praised the get immediately.

Hes WAY more athletic than Malcolm, are you kiddin me????
Hill was a pretty land-bound player, I'm not denying that.

But I'm sensing a disrespect I am not appreciating for a player who was better than Brandon Paul and better than AJ Storr has yet been.

Someone should be in jail for Malcolm Hill never playing in the NCAA Tournament.

I don't really understand why people were so underwhelmed by Domask. All he did was score from day 1 at SIU. He had over 1600 pts when he transferred and that includes a season where he only played 10 games and he never had the luxury of postseason games.

I would be very to excited to add anyone that has that history of scoring and Domask also happened to be 6'6

While it certainly helps, being an explosive leaper is not a requirement to play in the NBA. Malcolm's skills and moxie more than make up for his lack of vertical explosiveness.

Underwhelmed may be the wrong word. But I went back and looked at the recruitment thread when he committed. He was more or less looked at as a 6th man add/ replacement for RJ.

Instead we got 16 ppg (second behind TSJ), 4 apg (team leading) and first team all big ten (coaches/ media). My point was to say that the puzzle the puzzle-peice is being placed into matters.

I never disrespected Hill. I just said he wasn't as athletic or with the similar skill set to Storr and BP. Thats not the same thing. Also Hill has lost a lot of weight since leaving college to adapt.
Much like Domask and Storr are different so are Hill and Malcolm. I'd rather have Domask again than Storr but Storr is a better athlete. No one dissed Hill for stating what is fairly obvious imo.

Because they weren't. People were underwhelmed by the lack of a proven point guard without a skill or experience gap on our roster, but other than that, from my recollection, people were fairly content with the transfers Brad brought in.

Storr is more athletic than Malcolm but he's not the explosive leaper BP3 was.

But my main point was that Storr is really big, he's 6'7" and long. BP3 was a combo guard type.

The difference between Hill and Storr is primarily the difference between basketball before the Curry revolution and basketball after.
Brian Randle maybe a better comp?

As long as we're settling scores from last portal season, I don't remember which insider said "we're focused on better players than that" when I initially started banging the drum for RayJ, but that's a thing that happened.

Spare us the domino gifs this year, willya fellas?

If I’m drafting a team for one game vs the aliens to save the world, I’m taking Brandon Paul over Malcolm Hill. But BP3 is one of my all-time favorites. I was going to look up the stats, but then I remembered this is the internet and I don’t need to support my assertions:)

Edit: I looked up the stats and I’m definitely wrong, but I don’t care. BP3 forever!

I sure was....but Q and Harmon could have added so much if they had continued their level of offense that they displayed during the absence of TSJr. Not sure I should expect that, but it sure was impressive. In defense of Harmon, he stepped up his work ethic on defense, which earned him much floor time, but why he never made any more threes is puzzling to me. He was so dependable from the arc...and then he could not throw it in the ocean. Someone said he was injured, but I never saw anything else on that. Q worked hard, but seemed to stop being aggressive and finishing with regularity. Not that he vanished, but seemed to back off his offensive contributions. Still, both were great guys and not detractors and I am very satisfied to have had them as part of this great team.

Which was a reasonable expectation given his resume at the time, no?
Not really. If you had indeed looked at his resume and what he had accomplished at SIU you would realize he wasn't going to be coming off the bench. He scored 1600+ points and was 1st Team MVC. You are not getting a first team all conference player from any mid majors to come sit on the bench or be the sixth man.
