Go see Illini Twitter for more than our fair share of cocky homers. This board just has a streak of vocal, relentlessly pessimistic posters. I thought the fragile psyche would be shorn up with this last season’s results (especially after so many had attributed all our previous BU success to ‘getting Ayo and Kofi’), but I guess we’ll need a lot more than that to fix it.
For every "relentlessly pessimistic" poster there is at least one saccharine Pollyanna. This is a an Illinois Basketball analysis board. Not UI Basketball cheerleaders central. When the news is good, you'll hear about it. When the news isn't so good, you should expect to hear about that too. Just because some of us call a bad situation the way we see it doesn't mean that we are claiming the sky is falling, "toxic," or whatever.

The issue is the people who preemptively scream and cry about "bad situations" before anything has even happened........

Can someone compare and contrast Boswell and Maddox games? In particular how they would be utilized together. Thank you.

They're very different. Boswell is more of a proper pg (his assist numbers aren't as high since he had to share the ball with Caleb Love). Meanwhile, Maddox is more of a combo, off-ball guard who is more of a scorer who had to be more of a pg this year for Toledo since they lost RayJ. Both are excellent shooters and can play off-ball. Ideally that is our starting backcourt, I feel like they'd complement each other well.

Maddox is a more skilled Plummer and Boswell has some (not saying he's as good) Deron Williams in him

Boswell upside is that Daddy Brad can look at him and say..if you really are an EDG and you want to put in Ayo, TJ, Domask, CoHawk type work.....you're going to be a monster.

He absolutely has that Deron type upside. Now it's up to him to get there.

To over simplify it, Boswell is closer to a traditional point guard and Maddox is closer to a traditional shooting guard. I know this might not be exact but generally?

The issue is the pessimistic people present themselves as the “reasonable ones” who keep the rest of us in check. Given the tradition of sustained success of this program, a great 5-year stretch and coming off a season with an Elite Eight, Big Ten championship and the third most wins in school history … it’s the pessimistic folks who are unreasonable.

Yup, If we can turn some of that baby fat into muscle....Boswell will be able to just straight up body other PGs a-la DWill I think.

Maddox knows one thing-to score the basketball at all 3 levels. Dare I say “elite” athlete.

Kylan is a rugged, traditional floor general type who can shoot from 3. Not going to wow with athleticism but knows how to use his body and play angles. Not having Caleb Love demanding the ball at every turn is going to do wonders for his development. This is a BIG one.
