Talked with Grant Nelson after church today (my little man was excited for a photo with him). Told him he should consider IL for his last season. He said “Not sure about that” 😊

Kylan won’t be 19 years old until the 18th of April and has already had a great run in high level competition. What a player. Can you imagine how good he will get while learning and playing with the Illini team and for our coaches? This return to the Illini will make him millions of dollars in the long run, but I want ever fan of the Illini to enjoy this moment and yearn for the excitement of watching this great team under his PG play. Welcome home Kylan.

From what I can tell, Lloyd was a more laissez-faire type coach (definitely seems to be a bit of a peculiar guy as well) compared to Brad and seems like that wasn't a good fit for Kylan.

If he's bought into Brad's style...sky's the limit. Man, I'm hyped!

The team of the following is an extremely good well balanced team that absolutely would expect to be top 25 and compete for a BT championship. Bottom of the BT is an absurd take.

Boswell
Maddox/DGL
Ty/Davis
White
Booth/Johnson

Plus the potential of adding/keeping:

Domask
Hawkins
Amani
Harris
Storr

We are in a great spot with an exciting team next year that is certainly good and potentially great.

Booth is not a 5 at all. Nowhere close.

If I had to project starters of what we have at the moment if Amani/Harris are gone:

PG-Boswell
SG-DGL
SF-Goode
PF-White
C-Morez

Bench: Rodgers/Davis

I think you can play Boswell and DGL together given that Boswell is a bigger guard. They each have a gunners mentality when they get cooking. They can each push the ball. White should fill in a Guerrier role.

It’s a shame Dainja left bc he’d have a big role here on a team like this

The numbers aren't retired. Just hung in the rafters with the appropriate name.

If you're gonna take shots, know what you're aiming at.
Wow, I wasn't aware that was the case! I just thought that once the number was hoisted, that was it.

So, we know what the parameters are to have the number retired. They're pretty intense and rightfully so. Are there parameters to getting the number in the rafters or is that more of an arbitrary call?

I'm curious..say we land Maddox, Booth and Storr and assume no Hawkins or Domask. Do you think that team is better than last year?

No but doesn’t mean it couldn’t be - by definition that team would have to be a top 8 team and win a BTT.

For comparison, not knowing what Domask became, I also wouldn’t have put this years team into that category over the summer.

I would be very very excited going into the year with that team.

Goode is not starting!! If Goode starts we are in trouble

My father always told me to never show a fool a half done job…..
Hate to say it but that's a bottom half Big Ten team unless Brad works some serious magic(which is possible)

Frazier’s relationship with several players was notable, and similar to Butler, multiple sources around the program have forecasted Hansberry’s departure as well. Both are Baltimore natives; Frazier was a major reason Hansberry left the East Coast.

some serious magic(which is possible)

Who should Brad call Harry or Voldemort?

Hahaha, one of the posts on the Arizona board (amid a significant majority of classy posts wishing the kid well):

“The expectations will be lower. He should do well.”

🤣 When were you Kitty Cats knocked out this year compared to us??
Bring objective, they might be lowered?

He went from a 5 star prep that ran the point for a top 10 team....to being a top 25 transfer running the point for a team still being put together and finding an identity.

Going into this season(as of now), I don't think that we're anywhere near a Big Ten Championship or bust mentality. If the season started tomorrow, we're initially not a top 25 team. That's subject to change depending on what other transfers come aboard.

This team can be viewed as one that will be fun to watch grow and will have a solid season...to one with elite expectations if a big time scorer is added, along with a high quality big.

The latter obviously is going to bring more heat with it and the light will definitely be a lot brighter.

0%. Neither Booth nor Maddox are transferring in to not start.

In addition, Dain left for a reason and that reason is his role was 100% not going to be extended, The staff has made it extremely clear they want a mobile 5 that can spread the floor.

To over simplify it, Boswell is closer to a traditional point guard and Maddox is closer to a traditional shooting guard. I know this might not be exact but generally?
Yes, actually. You probably did indeed over-simplify it. The added context, as well as the player comparisons are critical to fully understanding the roster-build.

Great (former Illini) comparisons you were given above!

Can someone compare and contrast Boswell and Maddox games? In particular how they would be utilized together. Thank you.
Boswell has a grounded under control game, reminds me of Brunson. Takes good shots, solid 3 point shooter. Well coached and schooled. Big body guard, not overly athletic or fast. Great for half court.

Maddox is a smaller guard, very fluid and appears built for faster tempo. Great 3 point shooter. Game reminds me of RayJ Dennis.

I think Boswell/Goode/Rodgers/Davis we know what to expect from them.

The key to next year is getting DGL/White/Morez to maximize their potential. Those 3 are really boom/bust guys where the variance of their performance can be quite high. With Morez, he’s a freshman big. White has been up/down from HS/USC/Lville, and DGL is about reigning him in and getting him working within the flow of the team

Maddox is a more skilled Plummer and Boswell has some (not saying he's as good) Deron Williams in him
Maddox is also way stronger with a ton more off the bounce game than Plummer. Was a 2-guard next to RayJ two years ago and shot 45% from 3 and then shot 40% from 3 as the lead guard last year — can comfortably play either guard spot.
