Does the coaching stuff even want a TSJ type clone player? As much as I loved watching TJ go off and carry the shoulder on his back on multiple occasions, if he's cold or taken out, then so is vast majority of our offense. It was TJ and Marcus this year but it was Ayo and Kofi before as well.
Watching UConn decimate us (and others) with multiple options was impressive and I wouldn't mind having a much more balanced team than a clear obvious #1 option.
Of course I'm not a NCAA BB coach so I trust Brad and co know what they're doing
Likely every coach wants the same. Had we had Harmon and Q playing consistently to their potential from the arc, this year's team was in the realm of the Flyin' Illini and '05 finalist. Unfortunately, that did not happen. The lack of ability to score against Edey and Clingman was evident. Purdue especially was open to getting beaten from the arc...but alas, it was left to Nebraska, and NW to get that done. I did not see the Boilers lose to OSU, but I suspect the Buckeyes had a decent night from 3land.
That being said (bear with me haters), it is rare, if ever, that a team of even great shooters are all putting it in the net. We had 5 of our top 6 minute-eaters able to hit big numbers from the arc at times, and that never happened except maybe in the first NW game. Not being critical, just very hard to do every night.
The point is that getting a team in house that can put scorers on the floor every night is difficult to impossible at an elite level. Then, getting them to play defense and rebound at an elite level is another matter. UConn did both and their kids were both happy and proud to do it. Hurley, in spite of being somewhat dislikeable and cocky, deserves a nod of respect for doing something few coaches have done or ever will do.
