Genuinely, I could not be more excited for this scrimmage. I feel a little silly saying that, but it’s true.
Last year, going into Kansas, most of us knew we were going to be pretty darn good. Even if we hadn’t seen those players together, there was a ton of film on each of them against college-level competition. It didn't take too much processing power to understand guys who’ve already done it in college would continue to do so, even if we didn’t know just how dominant some of them would become.
This year, though, it's a bit more of a mystery box. We have a sneaking suspicion we’ll be good—the talent seems to be through the roof—but we are extrapolating form and play styles from all kinds of different competition. We think it’ll translate and the pieces will mesh, but this is the first chance to see a lot of these guys live and against this level of competition. Because of that, this is a stop what I’m doing and lock in for two hours situation. I can’t wait to see what Brad has built.
I love the new normal of charity exhibitions in October against a high major team. The money goes to a good cause and us sickos get an early preview before the games really begin in late November. It’s a much appreciated aperitif.
