how does mizzou get a top 10 qb from pennsylvania? family connection?

edit : duh, nil:

I'm sure you're right about NIL playing a role but the article is about a local western PA company signing a small NIL deal with a local HS QB, months after said QB committed to Mizzou. Maybe there is a Mizzou connection to this deal, but that's not indicated anywhere in the article you posted.

Seems like I’ve seen a fair amount of tweets about various recruits enrolling early. Anyone know how many and how that compares to last couple of years?

One of Bret's goals is to have as many enroll early as possible ... Some it's just wanting to stay in HS for spring sports ...

But they are going to bring in as many as they possibly can in the spring ...

Someone is going to be the odd man out if we land another QB. We already have Clayton, Boyd and Petty.

Yes, as it should be - you need to take a QB every year knowing that 50% or more are going to transfer. QBs might be the position that has benefited the most from the transfer portal. Only one starter - 95% of all freshman redshirt to learn offense / bulk up to take hits. Under the old system it meant transferring was a sit-out year, giving you one offseason to compete for a starting job before the staff is likely looking for a younger starter.

I'd like to see the true measurables on Boyd. His height is concerning, and likely why some better programs shied away. That said, he's the exact type of QB that Illinois is smartly betting on - taking on a higher ceiling guy knowing that current QB room is healthy and Clayton is behind him. My guess is we'll know early if he has star potential.

I know it's the exception to the rule, but Drew Brees over at PU was small and passed over by other schools because of his height and ended up doing ok.

Agreed, and this is where you are intentionally hunting for an exception - his talents are undeniable, just have to take a leap that his physical attributes will not be a limitation but an opportunity to get him. I'm a firm believer that Boyd would be a top-7 prep QB if he was 6'3.

Thanks for the reply. I understand it is the aim, but I was looking for actual numbers to compare.

Went back through my Twitter feed and found 8 so far — seemed like more. Looks like that is on par with last year, when according to 24/7, 8 high schoolers arrived early along with 3 from JC.

Maybe get some more, but for 2025 class, I’ve seen the following so far:

Trimble
R . Jones
Boyd
Gayle
Straughton
Brooks
Lovett
Hirdes

And for 2024 class:

Griffin
Tuerk
John
Woodward
Petty
McCullom
Hansen
Barma
Canada (JC)
Sanders (JC)
D. Brown (JC)
