I fist talked about him on this board last June and said that NIU offered him and the posters snubbed their nose at him, but he reminds me of Kofi. I hope coach gets him here.
Pat Beverly was on a pod today saying him Jon Scheyer and Sherron Collins wanted to come to Illinois together but they didnt offer him so they all went elsewhere
there were more fans in the crowd to watch Scott Howard, pre wolf
I’ve never seen this small of a crowd at a high school basketball game.
Yes, all BS from Beverly. After his junior year there wasn't much interest from anyone. Collins and Scheyer were big names. No way they're tying themselves to Beverly.Since it didn't happen last week, I can't guarantee that I remember correctly, but I thought Weber was interested in Beverly, but never received his high school transcripts. I also think that Beverly wouldn't have been admitted to the UofI.
16.3 mpg. More than Johnson and just under Tre’s 18 mpg. He may not be hyper-important, but I think he is important enough.More athleticism? I'm not saying the international newbies are quick twitch, jump out of the gymers, but sign me up for 1 KJ, 1 Will Riley, and 1 Ivisic on a yearly basis. What they may lack in athleticism they more than make up for in skill. We all knew (and should still know) that this team with 1 active returning player from last year's roster (love DGL but at 5-10 mins/game he can hardly be considered a hyper important part of the team) was going to take some time. It's waaaaaaaay too early to judge what they will become. I think we're a top 15 team by February. I was as frustrated as the next fan on Wednesday - and not just for the 8PM CST tip on a week night for two top 25 central time zone teams - but this team is farther along than I thought they'd be right now.
This is blatantly false. Scheyer was never not going to Duke. Collins considered us until Self left. Beverly was struggling with eligibility coming out of HS, so that wasn't happening either.Pat Beverly was on a pod today saying him Jon Scheyer and Sherron Collins wanted to come to Illinois together but they didnt offer him so they all went elsewhere
Weber probably knew that he couldn't be admitted, but I agree that letting him come to visit on his dime wouldn't have been a problem. Or maybe Weber knew about Longstreet's involvement in Beverly's recruitment and didn't want the grief. Beverly's recruitment reminds me of Liberty' recruitment. Cox let it be known that Liberty would go to the school that would pay Cox $100,000 and he would "take care of" Liberty. No coach wanted to deal with Cox. I was told that an Illinois booster paid Cox $25,000 and he bought a Cadilac and Liberty didn't get anything.Yes, all BS from Beverly. After his junior year there wasn't much interest from anyone. In the spring when he started to blow up we asked for transcripts before we'd have him for an official, I believe. He wanted the visit first.
You might think of that as an early indication of how Weber's stubbornness hurt him. Have the kid down. What's the harm.
Collins went to Kansas because a Kansas booster gave his mother an apartment and spending money so she didn't have to find a job. She was upset when Collins used up his eligibility and she lost the apartment and the money. This is blatantly false. Scheyer was never not going to Duke. Collins considered us until Self left. Not sure what his point was in bringing that up?

I don't think DGL's minutes will drop much if at all. He is our only depth at Guard behind KJ and Boswell. If those two both play 32 mpg that leaves 16 for DGL.Valid point as I think my comment wasn't 100% clear, but for the record I was referencing DGL last year where his stat line was:
Additionally, I was just making a ballpark estimate and hadn't looked that up until now. All that said (and I'll say it again), I love DGL. I'm glad he's on the team, and I hope he continues to grow his game and find an ever expanding role with every year that he's with us. To your, point, he's already averaging a little more than double the minutes he did last year. I do think that average likely dips as we play increased competition, but if it doesn't it means he's earned the minutes. One of the many things I really like about BU is that he makes his players earn their minutes - possibly with the exception of freshman year Mark Smith. DGL has shown he is tough and willing to take the coaching. My point of referencing DGL at all in a post that was intended to be exclusively about international players' athleticism/skill is that we basically have a 100% brand new team so evaluating their potential for the year based on their performance mid-way through November is...well, not smart imo.
- Played in 28 games as a freshman, averaging 2.4 points and 0.9 rebounds in 7.1 minutes per game per UofI MBB official website.
I feel like in the 2000s Chicago had a late blooming 'star' every year. Pat just happened to be different.Yes, all BS from Beverly. After his junior year there wasn't much interest from anyone. Collins and Scheyer were big names. No way they're tying themselves to Beverly.

A post about an upcoming 5-star recruit visit nearly 24 hours ago and zero responses so far. My how times have changed!
It’s crazy how our hopes aren’t tied to getting a savior recruit anymore.A post about an upcoming 5-star recruit visit nearly 24 hours ago and zero responses so far. My how times have changed!
I'm not sure how you can say that about the portal. Our two best players right now are non-portal guys. It’s crazy how our hopes aren’t tied to getting a savior recruit anymore.
The portal is our most important part of every offseason nowadays, and since we are a “have” rather than a “have not,” we are able to chill and just wait and see what happens.
College Hoops has been impacted by this top to bottom. I attended a game over the weekend between two mid-majors (a friend's son is on one of the teams). Between the two teams, eight of the ten starters were transfers, several at their third schools. Only three kids on each entire squad were returnees for their second year at the same school. Sound familiar? That said, the portal as well as the reclass issue and the constant flow of decommits has certainly changed my interest in recruiting.
Well, TSJ and Domask were pretty nice portal gets. Mayer was a nice get, even if polarizing.I'm not sure how you can say that about the portal. Our two best players right now are non-portal guys.
