Regarding international prospects… is this move something college athletics is embracing more now than ever before, or something Illlinois just never did until recently?

Maybe something to do with NIL helping lure some big names?
Kinda both.

We have dipped into this pool more this season than ever before. There were other programs doing it earlier. But the total number of international prospects coming over also seems to have increased significantly. Probably both because of the lure of NIL, as well as the NIL situation making it less likely that international prospects get hit with Enes Kanter-type NCAA ineligibility decisions (basically Kanter got ruled permanently ineligible for the same type of stuff for which Ivisic lost just one year of eligibility).

I fist talked about him on this board last June and said that NIU offered him and the posters snubbed their nose at him, but he reminds me of Kofi. I hope coach gets him here.

Ayo is and will be the last one that will elicit any excitement for five star commit for me. With NIL and transfers, it is what you can get in the offseason… don’t care about unproven high school commits. Go ask James Brown UNC
Really surprised Brown didn’t decommit from NC. Fun Brown facts — he has as many fouls as he does rebounds. He also has not missed a shot this season

I get what you say and my enthusiasm is down on recruiting but we are being saved this year by freshmen.

His development has stalled after his sophomore year in high school ,he probably need to transfer down to get some play time and hopefully continue his development.

Saw both JB and Morez play as sophs and juniors at St Rita. Early on both had very good upside but JB was just better IMO. By their junior years, Morez had passed him up substantially and JB had just remained the same. Was basically the same exact player a year later. Still think JB can be a good big man in college, but it won't be at UNC.

Jaylan Mitchell visiting UK. His mother (my cousin) said it was awesome, and "Coach Pope was such a normal person and was so natural with Jay", which is much different than he's been described on this board 🤷‍♂️ Of course, she went there and admitted that could've influenced her opinion of the visit. I told her that he looks terrible in that shade of blue and that it clashes with the white unlike the perfect blend of orange and blue that he's worn on a better visit. 😁

Thanks for sharing. I hope Jaylan does well wherever he goes, but I agree w/you re: color palette!

I thought Alexander was lead on most..
Yeah, I believe he led on Moretti and Perrin. Orlando brought connections with Tomi for sure. I thought Geoff led on KJ but could be wrong.

One things for sure…Orlando could sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves. =)

What movie folks?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong on this theory. It seems like Brad is taking commitments from HS recruits and some lower ranked transfers that can shoot and going big game hunting in the portal/internarional.

The rationale being at least they can shoot and/or they have size with the ability to shoot. Worse for worse they will be able to contribute that way.

Am I off base here? I hope that makes sense… I’m a bit under the weather. By that I mean I actually am sick as a dog.

I agree. The transfer portal paired with the fact that a lot of guys that commit will never make it to campus has made prep recruiting pretty dull.

The one exception would be if we landed a Derrick Rose or Jabari Parker type recruit from Chicago.
